Located inside a historic and beautifully restored 100 year old brick building, Cowfish offers a fun and lively atmosphere paired with excellent food and knowledgeable service. Our menu features hand cut steaks, local grass fed burgers, fresh fish and our innovative pastas and salads. All our beers are brewed on site by the Lander Brewing Co. Its popular lineup of refreshing, made from scratch microbrews includes beers that have won awards at the Great American Beer festival, the World Beer Cup and other competitions. Enjoy a romantic dinner in our candlelit dining room or a more casual dining experience in our pub. In the summer, we offer the added attraction of dining on our outdoor patio under a trellis of wild Cascade hops.

I ate here once before and it was good but this time it exceeded our expectations. The service was perfect and the Panko breaded trout with spinach and artichokes on a citrus béarnaise sauce was a perfect and complex combination of flavors. The seafood combination dish my husband had was equally impressive. It had a variety of seafood in a light tomato base with fennel...

Who knew is a small town……

Delightful place in Lander we enjoyed greatly on our quick trip through to Jackson Hole! The food was so delicious, we ate there two nights in a row. The salmon, filet, trout, shrimp, wedge salad, and caramel butterscotch dessert we had were all prepared well and hot food served hot, and cold food served cold. The waitstaff was pleasant and helpful, and the atmosphere with cool music, art, and lighting made it seem big city. Now…..if they could figure out how to kill flies this time of year, they would be golden. But……that did not stop us from going back in. Will remember you Cowfish, in a nice way. Thanks!

Good place, but expensive

I had the Tuna Shasimi, it was a good size portion for the appetizer, the tuna itself had a weird texture, but still ok, I don't think I'll order that again. The fish and chips were my main course, the fish looked like it was taken straight from the fryer, on the newspaper liner in the basket, so the breading was soaked in grease, so it was soggy, the fish was bland, it didn't taste like there was any seasoning at all, and the fries were shoestring, very bland, maybe try something like truffle fries, or duck fat fries, put some seasoning on there. Prices have gone up since the last time i was there, with the ribeye at $45, appetizer, entree, and 2 beer at $60 , not including the tip.

Uncomfortable During Covid

We ate at Cowfish on a busy evening and while the staff was wearing masks, I was very uneasy about the other precautions. Every table was filled. Tables were not 6’ apart (maybe the tables were before the chairs were placed, but chairs backed up to each other). Common items like salt & pepper shakers were left on table between customers. We were seated near the door to the outside patio where people came and went past us without masks. Our food was delicious, but about halfway through the meal we were uncomfortable enough that we got the remainder boxed and ate it in our hotel room. Hope I get to visit Lander and Cowfish again, after COVID resolves, as the food was wonderful and the atmosphere be a lot of fun.

Hi Louise, we are happy to hear your food was "delicious", "wonderful and the atmosphere be a lot of fun". We are following all of the mandated health safety orders issued from the state of WY. The tables are in fact 6 feet apart and we have select tables we don't seat to further space out customers. There is currently no mask mandate in the state of WY for the general public or customers. Given this, we can not control our customers choice to wear masks or not when visiting us. As you noticed, all of the staff do wear masks at all times. We also have vast outdoor seating available for customers. Many customers are happy to wait for seats outside and feel more comfortable dinning outside in the open air. We provide wonderful curbside pickup and delivery in town for those customers who still don't feel comfortable dinning at the restaurant currently. Thanks for joining us, we hope to see you again, and we are happy you loved the food and atmosphere.

We’ve been coming to Cowfish on a regular basis for years. They seem to go in cycles. From delicious to ok. We were in a couple weeks ago right before we left on vacation. I had the filet. It was so cold the butter didn’t even melt on top. The reason I’m writing another review is in hopes they will step up their game again. There are more veggies out there than broccolini. It would be a nice change to see some fresh carrots, squash or corn as a side..... anything different. I used to brag Cowfish up as comparable to lots of bigger city fine dining. I had a lot of amazing food on this years vacation....literally one of the best filets I’ve ever had with nice fresh veggies and hot food worth the price. It reminded me of what Cowfish filets used to be like. The last several times the food has not been hot and the flavor is lacking at Cowfish. I realize there is no competition in Lander but the staff could also step it up and act like we are more than an inconvenience. Sorry.... but for the price I expect a little more.

This was the first time coming here, only waited a few minutes to be seated. The staff was very friendly, all smiles and knew the menue well, I ordered the vodka martini, extra dirty, extra olives, and it was perfect. The appetizer was garlic bulbs with sourdough bread, and wow was that ever tasty! The main course was call the Cow crustacean, came with a steak and shrimp, polenta, and broccolini, the polenta was a touch sticky, and the steak was cooked as ordered, however, I must have gotten a bad cut? It was tough and chewy. The shrimp was huge looking, however it was all breading, what a shame. I ordered a steak sandwich to take home, it came with French Fries, the fries are string potatoes, the steak is a sirloin cut thin, have not tried it yet, so really can't comment on how it is. The prices are high, unless you get sandwiches. Someone had brought in their dog, when I left I asked if dogs were permitted inside, and was told not inside, but allowed on the patio, only service dogs inside, the one that was there was well behaved, have no idea if was a service dog. It's always crowded here, people really enjoy this place, worth a visit.

Best Place in Fremont County

Located in a historic and warm building in downtown Lander, the Cowfish is consistently one of the best places for a fine dining (with a casual flare) experience in the state. The food is always top quality. From starters to desserts, the quality, variety, and value are like no other in Fremont County. The chef and cook-staff compose each dish with the care and detail you would expect from an upscale restaurant. Servers are personable and knowledgeable. It is obvious they take pride in providing a uniquely, high-end experience. The Cowfish is also part of the Lander Brewing Company, so their offerings of outstanding beer, wine, and cocktails are second to none. The place is extremely popular, so make reservations ahead of your arrival, and be prepared for a slightly loud, bistro atmosphere when tables are packed. (They also offer patio seating in the summer). The Cowfish is the perfect place for any occasion if you want great food and service.

Year Six-in -a-Row and Still a Favorite!

Food and Cocktails are spot on. Great variety and after six annual trips we finally made it through the entire appetizers list on this past trip. I always get the trout as the entree. Pan fried to perfection. We work through several cocktails in a single sitting and love trying all the creative mixology concoctions. If you don't like the gin listed in the cocktail, request one of the others, for example. We overheard our 19 year old server explaining to the table next to us that even though she is underage, she could answer their questions about the cocktails and spirits. She nailed it! Even at her young age, she was a seasoned server. Lovely patio setting and great service. There might be one or two items on the menus we haven't tried so there's always reason to come back.

Needed a Decent Meal

We drove through Lander in our RV, and after a long day of driving, decided to stop at Cowfish. Party was our family of five, including small kids. The place is fun and kind of eclectic. The menu is interesting - not what I expected to see in small town Wyoming. I had the orecchiette with pesto (amazing), and my husband had the halibut special on lemon pasta. He cleaned his plate. My kids had a burger, mac and cheese (house made), and fish and chips (beautiful haddock fillet). The kids’ meals come with sundaes as a nice touch. The host and server were exceptionally kind and accommodating. Food came out fast, hot, and all correct. I was so happy we stopped and hope to come through Lander again someday just to eat here again.

A Pearl in Lander!

We liked everything about this restaurant! Our server Trina was really sweet and the food was delicious! We had the rainbow trout served with spinach and artichoke hearts and topped with roasted hazelnuts YUM and the guys had pasta with Gorgonzola sauce YUM! And one thing I noticed is that everyone working there seemed happy to work there. The young host really took his job to heart and did a great job cleaning tables and seating people as soon as possible. Recommend this place!

We went to the Cowfish for a family dinner. I ordered fish & chips. They were delicious. The fish was haddock, which is my favorite. The batter was a bit heavy, but good. My husband ordered the Cow Tenderloin Tips Pasta. It was so spicy he could hardly eat it. Who puts that kind of spices in a white sauce. He mentioned it to the waitress, she seemed surprised that there was any spice in it. He likes spicy, just not strong spicy. I don't recall what our daughter had, but I do remember that she liked it.

Ate hear two times - before and after our fishing trip into the Wind River Range. The food is really tasty. In the past I’ve had the ribs and the ribeye - both were really good. Decide to try fish and chips and they were great! So good I had them the night we came back to town. The fish is crispy battered fried and not greasy. It tasted wonderful and was really light. Their fries were really good but the fish was just superb. There is a lot of variety on the menu and the wine list is not large but offers a good basic selection. It also is basically part of the Lander Brewing Company - so there is a good assortment of daft beers. Been here before and will be back whenever I’m in Lander.

Great place for dinner

Our team stopped here for dinner as we heard it was good food. We were seated in the room with the brewery equipment and was waited on by Erica. Erica was an exceptional server and our drinks were never empty. I had ordered one of the steak items and it was very good. The chimichurri sauce could have had more flavor, but it was still good. We would definitely come back even just for the service!

Excellent dinner, don't miss!

We had an excellent dinner in this great restaurant! Portions were large enough to share, so my husband and I split the BBQ ribs and side salad. If we weren't just passing through and had a refrigerator to bring leftovers home, I would have ordered the trout, a local specialty. The meal was complimented by delicious bread, a glass of supertuscan wine and lovely, friendly service. Don't miss this restaurant if you're in Lander!

Better than expected.

By buddy and I were looking for dinner. We ran across this place. It had a good mix of entrees to choose from. He had the grilled chicken salad and I had the trout. We were tired of burgers and such. I also had a house salad. The salads were fresh and with good flavor. The trout came on a bed of artichoke hearts and spinach with a wine sauce (I think!). Anyway, it was really good. Pricing was fare for the meal. The place was leisurely in atmosphere and had a good vibe. I’d eat there again. Service was also really good. There was a moderate crowd when we went.
