The Chinese ranks high on my list. The selection was incredible and the food was delicious. I tried sweet-sour chicken, general tao’s, and sesame chicken. Each dish was excellent. Staff were quick to remove used plates and keep the buffet stocked. We will be back....Travel safe….More
Pokey's has an extensive menu, with some truly exotic items (ostrich and boa constrictor, to name but two). Four of us went to dinner here, with distinctly mixed results. In total, we ordered burnt ends with sides of fried green tomatoes and onion rings; pulled...pork with a side of mac 'n cheese and a trip to the salad bar; and two brisket burgers, one with the salad bar and one with a side of okra.
The pulled pork was moist, but didn't have much flavor until sauced. The two brisket burgers-- actually a mix of ground beef and brisket topped with cheese, bacon and jalapeno, with fresh onions on the side-- turned out to be dry, and in no way memorable. The burnt ends were also dry, and did not have much flavor, so we sat them aside for 24 hours to give the process more time ... and it worked! This ended up being a good bite. The mac n' cheese was ... mac 'n cheese, and the okra similarly dull, but the fried green tomatoes and onion rings were top-notch. The salad bar also scored well: a good selection, with fresh ingredients. The finish was blackberry cobbler, which also turned out to be both dry and dull.
In conclusion, the salad bar here is a winner, and so are a couple of the sides, but the meats did not measure up, and neither did the dessert.More
Great local BBQ restaurant and bar. I ordered the Tuesday special, smoked prime rib. Smoke flavor was perfect and rare is my favorite. Great sides and cold draft local beer. Highly recommend for anyone in the area!
Grabbed a bite on our way through Gillette. The looks of the place was very inviting with lots of pine wood features. Had the smoked turkey and the pulled pork. It was good BBQ, but not great. Great fried green tomatoes, great rhubarb crisp and...blackberry cobbler. Had an interesting menu of exotic food.More
Stopped for lunch and tried the kangaroo and gator. We were surprised how excellent they were, but the rest of our food was just ok. Considering they weren't very busy, I thought the service could have been better. Restaurant was very clean as well as...their restrooms, with their cute signs. It was great to try something different, but I wouldn't go out of my way to stop here again.More
Stopped here for a quick lunch on the road. I wasn't super hungry so I just got the honey barbecue wings and they were really good!! Would definitely go back when I was hungrier to try the other options. Gluten free options were clearly marked...on the menu which was great!!More
Based on reviews I was expecting better. Service was slow. We waited at least 30 min for our food—and they weren’t that busy. And food was just so-so. We had brisket, turkey, coleslaw, chicken tenders, bbq sauce—all just average.
Now I remember why we never go to Pokey’s. Server seemed distracted and didn’t give the best service. She also forgot to put my drink order in. My chicken fried chicken didn’t taste right(maybe they don’t change the grease enough, maybe they poured propane fluid...in the gravy!!!) either way it had a very bad after taste. That’s why changing grease in fryer is so important! Should have just gone to Lariat, they never mess up these classic and easy dishes.More
My brothers and I were headed home to Michigan after hunting lopes in Wyoming, and needed to pull off somewhere for dinner. We looked up places near us, and thankfully, Pokeys came up. We pulled off 90 and stopped in. It was a great decision....Cool atmosphere, nice beer selection (I noticed they had a few sours, and I love sours), great menu, and Fantastic waitress. I had the guava sour, which came in a 24oz big boy mug. I consider myself a bit of a beer snob, and I loved that I was able to get a beer like that there. I had pulled pork, brisket Mac and cheese, and a prime rib soup. Both of my brothers had the ribs. We all loved the food. What really put this place over the top, was Caitlin P. She was very friendly, attentive, and kind. Honestly, one of, if not the best waitress I’ve ever had. My cup did not go dry, and I felt well taken care of, but not too much so.
The next time my brothers and I are out west, it is on the agenda to stop back in to Pokeys!More
Just 4 minutes off I-90. Don't let the simple front fool you, it's a nice place. Very clean, saw them disinfecting surfaces often. BBQ pork was nice and smokey. The brisket was very wet. Great onion rings. Nice bar, quick friendly service.
