I had shrimp cocktail appetizer, salad was very good, new york strip steak was cooked to requested medium rare. Drinks were reasonably priced as was the food. The prices were reasonable too. I would eat here again. My friend had a fish sandwich that he...really enjoyed. Bartender “Tish” was good.More

This is the Go-to place in Waunakee especially on a Friday or Saturday night. Their fish-frys are especially good and their salad bar is super-fresh. The place itself is a bit dated and the waiting area is cramped.

Enter and turn left, you’ll find a nice bar with live music Turn right and you have classic family restaurant; well stocked salad bar, nice menu, all fairly priced. Nice wait staff Complementary on site parking

i love this place. I could go for the salad bar alone. it's a meal in itself. The staff is always very good and personable. Small town atmosphere; customers pleasant and enjoyable to visit with. Great for large gatherings too! Rex is great!

We weren't too impressed at Rex's. Great supper club atmosphere our waitress was efficient and funny. Drinks at the bar were weak. Boom Boom Shrimp were really good. Salad bar had a lot on it, including a hair in the salad dressing. The entrees were...okay for the price. I thought the prime rib was pretty tasteless. The tenderloin was still frozen in the middle and not really flavorful. Chicken Cordon Blu was decent. Desserts were good, but not anything to boast about. We will not be back.More

We went for the fish fry and it was excellent! The salad bar is fresh and delicious and the service was great. However if you want to have a couple of drinks at the bar first it is not a pleasant experience! The bartender acts...like he’s doing you a favor by waiting on you. He is definitely a detriment to the restaurant. We’ve eaten there several times but luckily this bartender is not always there.More

Disappointing overall. The salad and soup bar were fine, but the haddock and salmon entrees in our group were poor for a good restaurant. My broiled haddock was incredibly bland. It seemed to have no seasoning other than some paprika added for color. And there...were large areas of dark, ill-tasting meat/fat on the skin side. The only option to give the fish ANY flavor was to add some salt since there was no melted butter provided or any seasoning/flavoring available. My wife's salmon was similarly bland and did not include the tzatziki sauce described in the menu. And she chose green beans for her side and they were cut green beans that appeared to be from a can or frozen. The ones we received at a similarly-priced supper club southwest of Madison two weeks ago were terrific: long, thin, locally-source, FRESH green beans (they are in-season, after all) with tasty seasoning.More

I had an old friend visiting and was showing him around the area. After a drive along the Wisconsin River and a ride on the Merrimack Ferry, we head to Waunekee on the way back to Madison. Of course, a supper club is classic Wisconsin...institution, so great for a visitor. Unfortunately, there are fewer and fewer good ones left. And Rex's didn't add to that list of remaining good ones. We arrived around 6pm on the Thursday evening, with the bar quite busy and a few tables full, with mostly an older clientele. We sat down and were asked about drinks. My buddy ordered a brandy old fashioned and I ordered a Spotted Cow. He wasn't terribly fond of drink so switched to a Capital Brewery Supperclub, which he enjoyed more. Dinners start with their salad bar, which was fine, but not terribly exciting. A pretty narrow range of fresh ingredients, though not bad. Just average. I ordered a steak, which was properly cooked but quite bland. The meat was uninteresting tasting and not quite seasoned enough. My friend ordered the broiled walleye, which tasted fine, but pretty plain. All the reviews that we read were really excited about the fish fry ... but we were there on a Thursday. And I wanted to try their roast duck, but that's on a different night. So, maybe we'd like the place better on a different evening? From what we ordered, it just wasn't anything notable enough to get us back to Waunekee.More

Fantastic food (exception of baked potato, tasted warmed over). Everything else was superb. We tried the broasted chicken - moist & juicy on the inside, tender & crispy outside - extra delicious. Heavenly hash-browns, plain or with onions/cheese if desired. Also had steak & shrimp...cooked to perfection & served piping hot. Phenomenal salad bar with all the fixings imaginable + homemade tasty cheese spread & bread-sticks/crackers. Warm bread served at our table, Service was prompt, friendly/courteous in a wonderful supper club with a nice large bar. Would definitely eat there again in a heartbeat. Well worth the visit. Prices reasonable for the quality/quantiy of food.More

The food...superb! The salad bar...a true Wisconsin treat--even had pickled herring! The service...superb! The waitress even remembered our names after I introduced us! I would highly recommend this place to eat - come hungry!
