Decided to early bird dining for their Friday Fish fry, which we always enjoy. Tables were appropriately spaced, but our server did not wear a face covering. I mentioned it to the bus girl who brought us water. Other workers had masks on but they...were worn below their noses and chins. As my husband said..this comes down to the management. So disappointing!!More

Hickory Sticks doesn't have an on-line reservation system so I called on Monday and made a reservation for Friday for 4 people at 5:30. The woman said "You are all set for Friday at 5:30". When we arrived at the restaurant my name wasn't on...their hand written reservation sheet. The hostess said they couldn't seat us without a reservation and I told her I had made one. Jim Frutchey, the Managing Partner, then comes out and asks me when I made the reservation and I ask why and he says they have a Call Log. He then goes to the phone and says there were no calls on Monday. I say you are running a golf course and restaurant business and you received no phone calls on Monday and he says yes which I found ridiculous. I say then I guess you are saying I'm lying about the reservation. He keeps telling me that he needs to serve 300 people that night and can't seat us without a reservation. When we are about ready to leave he offers to seat us at a table outside (it was in the 50's that night) and we decide to leave. As we are leaving I tell Mr. Frutchey that I felt he could have handled the situation better and he just defends himself saying he did everything he could and I called him a liar which I had not. I told him I had eaten their several times in the past and the customer should b given the benefit of the doubt for good customer service. He said that's not true and he prides himself in outstanding customer service. Bottom line: Mr. Frutchey never offered an apology and never made us feel welcome at his establishment. If you choose to go there, make sure you double check your reservation before you go.More

Generally the warm rye bread, cod and glazed carrots were wonderful but really not sure what happened to the potato pancakes. They used to be the best I ever had. Then over fried , now just has brown discs. I recall when Will was chief,...he froze them then deep fried. Were superb. However the walleye was elegant and flakey with a delicate sauce rivaling any elite restaurant. Overall, love the food, service and atmosphere.More

Restaurant has so much potential with being on a beautiful golf course, great outdoor seating. Service is super slow, which I have heard and kind of anticipated. The restaurant wasn’t full by any means, but apparently the kitchen had a hard time keeping up. I...had baked fish which was dry. My husband had the fish fry, which was the smallest serving of fish I’ve ever seen. He said it was decent but probably wouldn’t order it again. Overall disappointing.More

We failed to make reservations and due to a special event, we waited nearly an hour for a table. Both the baked and fried options for Friday Night Fish Fry were great. The sides could have been better.

It's a very new building. All the seating is at tables. No booths. The tables are spread out nice so we didn't feel too close to the people around us. But at times the restaurant felt very quiet, it would be nice if they had...background music. We went at 6pm for a friday fish fry. It is not all you can eat. They had several good sides. We enjoyed the bacon mashed potatoes. The fried and baked fish was enjoyed by all in our group. This is a really good fish fry for the area. It was a reasonable price. The server we had was quick, we had no problems with her.More

Hickory Sticks used to be our go-to restaurant but no longer. We made a reservation for a Friday night at 6:30. We got our drinks and finally placed our order. Then we waited close to an hour for fish' quesadillas and a salad. I ordered...a salad that came with a sesame dressing. Right before our food came, the waitress asked what kind of dressing I wanted. I had already asked for the dressing on the side when I ordered. I guess after an hour she forgot. One of out guests ordered a baked potato but was served mashed. I ordered a side of potato pancakes which she forgot about. No one in our group of six liked their baked fish. It did not come with coleslaw either. Bummer! My salad had an off taste like the lettuce was old. The sesame dressing however had the same off taste. The bathrooms appeared to be "under construction" or something. Several stalls did not have latches to keep the door closed. One stall had feces in it. The ladies locker room was a dump! I will not go back to this place. It was such a disappointment. Something must be going on financially at Morningstar golf/Hickory Sticks. This is a pathetic excuse for a restaurant.More

This is a restaurant on a golf course - one of the nicest in the area. Although open to the public, I expected a little better than average. The meals we had there were good, though the menu is kind of limited and the service...kind of slow. A nice feature is an eating deck overlooking the beautiful grounds and there is entertainment out there on the weekends.More

Not sure why Miranda is still working as waitress. We have given the restaurant a chance because the fish fry is very good but we keep getting Miranda as a server. This girl has no clue on how to wait tables. We arrived tonight, and...15 minutes later she finally shows up to say good evening and take drink order. 50 minutes later food is served. This has occurred on 3 separate occasions. How in Gods Name can this girl still be serving customers! She has to to be related to owner or management is also clueless! I can’t believe I have gone there 3 times and get her as a server and come back!More

Hickory Sticks is part of a golf course, but apparently even the members choose to eat elsewhere. We have been to Hickory Sticks on a Fri night where it's somewhat busy and we even had Mother's Day brunch there and it was pretty good. When...we were leaving Mother's Day brunch and they told us to come back and check out their restaurant some evening for dinner, so we decided to give it a shot. When we arrived around 6;30pm, there were quite a few men in the bar, but we struggled to find anyone to wait on us at the hostess stand. A lady finally emerged from the kitchen and asked if we wanted to eat and told us to feel free to grab a seat in the empty restaurant, the bar or even out on the deck. So we chose the deck, which is beautiful and overlooks the golf course. She followed us out and gave us menus and took our drink orders. We just requested water for the moment and she disappeared. About 15 minutes later, we were discussing wether or not to just leave when another waitress appeared and asked if she could bring us drinks. When I told her someone was going to bring us waters, she said the other waitress "got busy". Not a great start... We waited for our waters again and while we did the golfers started to pour onto the deck. Apparently we had chosen the smoking area, because soon after the deck filled with smoke. So, we picked up our stuff and made our way into the empty dining room and found our waitress who finally had our waters and silverware. She told us to sit anywhere and as we chose our seats she said "not there, sit over here". Finally we were seated and placed our orders. Cheese curd appetizer and a steak sandwich for me (prepared rare) and a tuna sandwich in which my husband asked if it could be grilled, like a tuna melt. The cheese curds were fine. Lots of tiny empty little little fried balls, rather than the 12 to the order as stated on the menu. The steak sandwich looked great. It was grilled and served on a hamburger bun. It came with mushrooms and onions that I had requested they leave off, tho there were a few mushrooms on the plate. I ended up taking the steak off of the bun, as it had a sweet flavor that didn't pair well with the saltiness of the meat. The steak was tender but very over-cooked. It did still have an ok flavor, but it's not something I'd order again. My husband is a vegetarian and struggled to find a meal to order. There were some larger fish entrees, but he didn't want to spend $17 on them. We get nervous ordering food like Mahi Mahi when it's obvious that nobody has been eating at the restaurant. His tuna sandwich ended up being quite to his liking and was so big that he only could finish half of it. Instead of grilling it, they had just toasted the bread, but he was fine with that. More golfers trickled into the dining room, but we noticed when we were leaving that out of probably 20 of them, only 2 were eating. Clearly Hickory Sticks has some work to do if they want to become known as a place to grab a bite to eat.More
