OMG!!! It's been two hours and I'm still stuffed. The chopped brisket is out of this world. The dry rub ribs were amazing! I have never had Baked Bean Brisket before, but I'm definitely having it again. Very impressed with the staff. I've had BBQ...in a lot of places. I make my own vinegar-based BBQ sauce that was handed down by my late grandmother. Theirs rivals my own. We've barely left and I can't wait to go again.More

I'm from Georgia and I've never had barbecue that I didn't like, no matter where and when, and J's barbecue is certainly good. But I want to tell you about their fish. We have fish fries down South and the ones in Wisconsin I've never...really found to be as good, but J's does fish just right. If you try it, I think you'll find it different from what you get elsewhere, and you just might like it better. I sure do. And the folks who run the place, Jen and Susan, are true delights. They add their personalities and soulfulness to the experience, and I'm so happy they are here.More

Pretty disappointed with just about everything related to this stop for lunch. Because of Covid this restaurant has decided to only have outdoor seating. This time of year the bees are ridiculous. As soon as my food was placed on the table several bees decided...to join me for lunch. This place should reconfigure the inside seating to allow for those that want to avoid getting stung to eat inside. I had the solo sampler platter. I chose to have brisket and baby back ribs as my two meats. For my sides, I picked Tangy coleslaw and cheesy mashed potatoes. The brisket I was served was very dry. I was surprised because it looked great and I assumed it was going to be moist and delicious. It wasn’t. The baby back ribs were also dried out and over cooked. They spooned some bbq sauce on top that was not finished off be grilling. (Check out the picture). The Tangy cool slaw was swimming in “tangy” sauce and overpowering. Pretty poor presentation. (again, look at the picture). The worst part of the meal was the cheesy mashed potatoes. Those potatoes were not soft enough to mash. They definitely rushed it. The texture was dry and gritty and the flavor was bland. This was my second time visiting J’s. I do not remember the first time being this bad. Hopefully they were just having difficulties on the day I visited. I was one of the first customers for the day and possibly things weren’t quite ready before they gave me my food.More

When I went to Js BBQ last year I was waiting to meet a friend so I ordered a drink at what looked like a bar and I mentioned to the owner they needed bar stools. She said “They don’t want squatters”. I guess that...was humor but I felt insulted. The service was slow as one person takes the order and also puts it all together. So, over a year later we visited again, the Covid issues had them taking orders at the door and allowing only outside seating. Ok, seems reasonable but the order process is still super slow. Each time someone in our party ordered a drink the girl would go inside to get it and repeat this process for each drink order. Very odd and slow process. I had the Brisket. Very dry and average. Mac and cheese was soupy.More

Js BBQ is simply amazing. Not only is the food mouth watering and absolutely top notch. But the staff is the best! Their passion is evident. Keep up the great!

Went in to this with pretty high hopes. We got a variety of meats and sides. Brisket, ribs, pulled pork, wings, beans, cornbread, coleslaw. I cook a lot of bbq with friends/family so i may be a bit jaded but... I would have been hard...on myself if i served this to people i love. Brisket was pretty dry and bland. Ribs seemed like they were cooked in an oven. overall i just got the feeling the meat had been held poorly for a long time after cooking and dropped significantly in quality. keeping that fresh off the smoker quality throughout the day is definitely hard to do in a commercial setting so i empathize but nonethelesss... i would say that the sauces were good and there was a wide variety of types. the look of the place is very cool, but the customer experience from getting in line to sitting down to eat is pretty rough. have to get your own plates/utensils/sauces/etc and it is not laid out in a very efficient manner. Kind of have to take your food to your table then go back up for plates and water or tea, then make a third trip to grab sauces, which you'll need. the thing I found most confusing was that the sweet tea had cinnamon in it... which i find sacrilegious. BBQ done right will have people eating with their hands and making caveman sounds... and this just aint it. Based on other reviews i have to give this place the benefit of the doubt and say if you get there at the right time the food may be much better... what that right time is? im not sure.More

Yup that is what I did. We stopped for a late lunch and chose the Fish Tacos and hand breaded shrimp with a cup of vegan chili and sweet potato fries. I was wonderful. Ripon is a fun town to wander in and out of...unique shops making this wonderful lunch a very satisfying cap to a great road trip. We plan to go back for the BBQ!More

Delicious food. Choose your selections from a big board. Make your own combinations or choose from specials. Full bar, but popular beers. Very reasonable.

First let me start out with “I’m a BBQ snob.“ My family and I make yearly pilgrimages to BBQ cities. St. Louis, Austin, and Memphis are a few of our favorite destinations. We’ve eaten really good BBQ and this isn’t it. Brisket was dry with...some sort of sweet rub. The fat cap kind of pealed and fell off. A true Texas brisket rub has two ingredients, Salt and Pepper. Pulled chopped pork was dry and completely covered in house BBQ sauce. It was sitting in a warming station at service. Ribs were mushy and could have easily been boneless. Bone literally pulled out with least amount of effort. Not good. I had an order of shrimp also. Menu board said it was “hand battered”. Breading was in my opinion too perfect to be hand battered. Before trying meat at a BBQ joint. I can tell if the meal will be good by simply trying the sides first. Cole slaw was chopped cabbage with a dressing simply poured over the top. Requiring the dinner to mix it up. ? I’ve never seen that before. Dressing closely resembled Olive Garden bottled dressing. Corn bread was moist and had jalapeños in it. It wasn’t bad. I didn’t try the macaroni and cheese but my son shrugged his shoulders when I asked how it was. It had lots of a loose cheese sauce. So sides were at least below average. Facility was clean and a young staff wiped off tables as you left. I thought it was odd to have two bathrooms labeled as “Gender Neutral”. It just wasn’t for me. I gave my review 2 stars because we just don’t have a lot of BBQ joints around Wisconsin, and I applaud the effort.More
