We were visiting family in Oshkosh and decided to stop in for a root beer float. This location is very clean and up to date. Typical drive-thru and drive-up ordering kiosks. Our servers were friendly and efficient. My favorite burger , The Papa Burger, was...still on the menu and was prepared to my liking. Of course the root beer floats were classic also. Since this is Wisconsin we had to try their Cheese Curds and yes they were delicious. This is the 100th anniversary of the restaurant chain started by Roy Allen and later joined by Frank Wright, in Lodi ,California. The tradition lives on.More
After 1 1/2 years of unplaned visits I decided to give them their props. They do a vary good job with their food, deserts & cust. service. My faves are the rooter/vanilla swirl cone, and the single papa burger (Think it's a better balance of...ingredients than the big papa). Of corse the RB floats are sensational. Check em out for yourself and pass the word. EnjoyMore
We had a young man wait on us who was very pleasant and accommodating. We asked for no extra salt on our burgers and fries and that's exactly the way they came and tasted great! The young gal that was working was also very friendly...and attentive.More
A&W once was the king of fast food. It was in every small town in this part of the country (and I think farther). But, McD's basically put it out of business because of one thing - consistency. A&W failed to ensure that all of...its restaurants were consistent. One would be excellent - good food, good service, clean restaurant - and another would be a sty. In contrast, McD's came along and offered quality, value, service and consistency. McD's was never great, but you knew what you would get no matter where you went.
There are now again a handful of A&W's popping up in Wisconsin. My wife and I have stopped at a couple, and liked them. The menu is good, the root beer is excellent and the restaurants have the feel of an old-time, quality A&W.
Today, however, I was sorely disappointed. The food was decent (excellent cheese curds) and the guy at the counter was likable. The food came quickly. Outside, this restaurant has cool individual car ordering systems - kind of cool. Inside, the décor is a little cheap, but I could overlook that.
However, when I walked into the bathroom, I was totally turned off. It was very dirty (my wife said the women's room was also dirty). That was bad enough but, worse, the only toilet would not flush and a lot of people had used it. That can happen - things break down - but when I told the manager, she seemed totally unconcerned. That is totally unacceptable. She should have sent someone immediately (it was not that busy).
I will go back the next time we are traveling through to see if this was an anomaly. If not, it is bad sign for A&W. A&W cannot survive this kind of inconsistency. If things are better, I will review it again and give it a better rating.More
Ate outside on the front patio with an umbrella over table. Very comfortable. Had breaded chicken tender sandwiches which were extremely hot, had no problem letting it cool off a tad. These days it is hard to go to a fast food restaurant and get...hot food. Great fries, sandwich and of course, a mug of ice cold root beer. YUM!!!!More
If you haven't tried their root beer twist ice cream cone yet you must put it on your bucket list. It's sooooo good, even if you don't care for root beer. I haven't had many of there food items, we regularly stop for the twist...cone.More
It has been a long time since I was at any A&W. Wow, have things changed. A&W is now our stopping point for dinner when heading up north. The chicken tender meal is excellent. Always HOT and delicious. And the cheese curds can’t be beat....The hamburgers are very tasty and always HOT. The staff is over the top, exceptional and Super nice! And they have a nice outside area with picnic tables we can eat at with our dog.More
