We scouted out the place earlier and saw on their menu board 2 specials that looked great, when we got there and it was time to order I ordered one of the specials that supposedly had pieces of filet mignon in the dish and they're...like "didn't they tell you, we no longer serve that", I said that it was on their chalk board in the front as one of the specials and also listed on a supplement page they handed us with the menu. She said that they don't serve that anymore and suggested what to order as a substitute that was similar that comes with a New York strip, so I ordered that. When the food came the meat was so tough and grisly that I could hardly cut it with a steak knife, it was obviously not a New York strip, it was the cheapest piece of meat that I had ever had for $27.00. I was obviously a victim of bait and switch!! My husband had a meal which claimed to have Italian sausage and marina sauce, but the sausage was cut so thin and was so sparsely added and the sauce so unflavorfull it was like eating a can of spaghettios. His was supposed to have eggplant in it too and there was absolutely none. The sausage also was unlike any other Italian sauce we ever tasted, it was like somebody cut up half a hotdog and put it in there. I had two less than half glasses of wine which they count as a full glass at $8.50 a pop and it tasted like the cheapest box wine you could get. Overall our bill was $70.00, so it's a rip-off! Never going back!More

We drove to Onalaska for my birthday meal--and Il Luigi was the same, only there were a few more people dining in this year, two adult parent-child couples and another couple, socially distanced. The wait woman was masked. Scout ordered the special, red snapper with...scallops and vegetables; I chose the Chicken Piccata on soft potatoes with seasonal vegetables, broccoli, carrots, and summer squash, artistically arranged, as well as a green salad. The food was divine! We took a slice of luscious chocolate cake and of Tres Leches cake to enjoy at home. Scout said my Tres Leches cake is better--gift enough for me--but I'm sure Il Luigi's is good! The desserts were rich--I had two cake for supper and breakfast.More

My wife and I are from out of town and were looking for some good Italian food. Il Luigi did not disappoint us. The service was excellent as was the food. My wife had the lasagna which she enjoyed very much. I had the chicken...piccata which was excellent. The focaccia bread served with our cocktails was one of the beat I have had. I highly recommend Il LuigiMore

We went there on a Friday night to celebrate a birthday with six of us. We had heard about this place (for their carry outs) and decided to try it as our first time outing as a group since the pandemic. We felt very comfortable...being there. The pasta was, hands down, the freshest I have ever eaten. The chef came to our table after we had received our meal to ask about the food and answer any questions--it was such a nice touch. The place has a casual atmosphere, great service, and one of the best and freshest Italian meals I've had in the La Crosse/Onalaska area. This will be our go-to for Italian whenever we are in town.More

A few weeks ago, we had Ecuadorian dinners at Luigi’s. The owner Luis suggested them. The dinners were good, with hominy, red beans, rice, pork, and steak. The iced tea was excellent, said my husband, Scout. We shared the cannoli dessert, which had crunchy tubes...with creamy filling and chocolate. Yesterday, to celebrate our 33rd anniversary, I took the molten but excellent chicken panino with banana peppers, onions, and tomato; it came with the best crispy, peppery hot French fries. Scout stuffed himself with linguine with spinach in a creamy tomato sauce. We were going to order the tiramisu but forwent it because we had bought vanilla tarts with fresh cantaloupe and basil at the nearby aptly named Frenchtastic Bakery that needed to be eaten soon.More

The food was average but the service was exceptional. We did dine in service and our server was Anthony. He made sure our food and drinks were satisfactory and always checked on us with refills. Chicken Marsala was our favorite.

My wife and I decided to try this restaurant on our date night. We heard it was a little upscale and wanted to treat ourselves. They were not busy but the server was aloof at best. The food was average at best but the cost...far exceeded my expectations for my perceived value. This will be our last visit.More

This is the best Italian food short of being in Italy. Authentic sausage. The focaccia bread melts in your mouth. This is the first time I have tasted portabelo
