My son and I had dinner here after a great day of riding the countryside surrounding Mt Horeb. The beauty of the area enhances the unique atmosphere of this hidden gem. We started out with a flight of beer samples and the spicy cheese curds...- outstanding. My son had the Rueben which was made with their own in- house corned beef. I had the Big Bad Wolf, which is an interesting take on a pulled pork sandwich (pulled pork covered with more pork - have to like that). We will be back soon.More

Went to Grumpy Troll during COVID. Right off the bat, we were seated at a dirty table with the hot sun in our eyes. One of our water cups (which we were left to pour ourselves out of a pitcher) was dirty. Food was meh....My spinach needed to be thrown out the day before it was served to me (slimy). Foot prices were too high considering the quality and the atmosphere. The beer was reasonably priced and OUTSTANDING!More

The food was acceptable but not anything special, the staff was friendly but slow, pricing was not terrible for what you got.

We were visiting the Mt Horeb area for the first time. Being the 4th of July and having things starting to open up with this Covid thing. We just were not sure where to go. They were open and did everything to make us feel...comfortable. Now for the food, we both ordered individual pizzas and they were very good. My wife had a pepperoni with mushrooms and peppers, I had a buttery garlic sauce with chicken and roasted red peppers topped with sweet chili sauce. Noth really good. Our server, Lily, was great. She gave us a little history of the town. We can't wait to come back.More

Had the take out fish fry Friday. Brought it out to our car due to Covid 19. Wow! Fish. mashed potatoes, pretzel bun was the best. Cole slaw is not that great. We have been going to Grumpy for years. Love it.

We stopped here on our travels because of a friend’s recommendation. This is a really nice place to visit. Cozy atmosphere. Very friendly staff. Craft beer is exceptional and even though we only got appetizers they were very satisfying. The pretzel was amazing. It was...huge! I would highly recommend stopping here.More

This place is a must visit place when you are in town. Food was o.k. and service was a little slow because they were busy.

Have eaten here many times and never had anything that wasn't really good. Still haven't tried the pizzeria upstairs, but have heard good things about that too. Very good beer, but don't expect any other brands on tap other than theirs. They don't take reservations,...so either get there early or expect to wait for a table if they're busy.More

Best ever beer cheese soup, delicious burger, generous side, great samplers. We are always trying brew pubs when we travel and then we find this great one right here in Wisconsin! We started with the Chocolate Beer Sample for $10 and loved it! Then we...split a Skogstroll Burger with a very generous side of Grumpy Troll Chips and a cup of the most delicious, slightly spicy, Beer Cheese Soup with sausage and carrots. Super service from beginning to end. We are going to come back and spend more time in this great little community!More

My wife and I finally stopped by the Grumpy Troll while passing thru Mt Horeb. Tuesday 2/11 around 2pm. Actually more people in the restaurant than what I thought would be there at that time (but now I know why). Very friendly staff. Best cheese...curds/honey mustard dipping sauce that we have eaten in Wisconsin so far. Both had a cup of beer cheese soup with andouille sausage - highly recommend it, I had the fish tacos (3) and they were excellent. When in Wisconsin you must have the state drink (Old Fashion) so we did - sweet old fashion with brandy. Have never tried the brandy version before and I believe I may have converted to the Korbel brandy version of the Old Fashion. It was very, very, very good. The entire meal was excellent. A nice ambiance comes with this place, very clean and a lot of homage to early times in Mt Horeb. Plus a few trolls hanging out around the restaurant.More

I am not sure. We did not have a dog with us and I did not see any dogs in the restaurant. They do have outdoor seating which I am sure would allow for dogs.

Absolutely - we were there this summer with our 8, 6 and 1 year old children and we all enjoyed it. Nice pub vibe - with a moderate noise level that allows children to be children and adults enjoy their food. High chairs... More
