I like Mason Street Grill well enough, but I feel you are definitely paying for the atmosphere and not the food. I have visited twice now, once for lunch and once for dinner. Both times were with work, as I would not elect to go there otherwise – the price is too steep for just okay food. For our lunch visit, I had the Fried Lake Perch sandwich, which was delicious. The portion size was decent for the price. On our more recent dinner visit, I tried a few more items from the menu: Roasted Beet Salad (Pretty good, although the beets were either bland (red beets) or soaked in the vinaigrette (golden beets). The watercress, goat cheese, and candied pecans really pulled things together. The red onion was forgettable until you got a bite, and then overwhelming) We ordered a selection of sides to share: Roasted Broccolini (weirdly flavored with an overpowering and salty dressing. Would not recommend.) Roasted Garlic Mashed Potatoes (the best of the sides we tried) White Cheddar & Smoked Gouda Macaroni & Cheese (I love mac & cheese but this was so bland and disappointing.) Roasted Brussels Sprouts (fried in a bland but light batter – good texture but no flavor.) I ordered the Pan Seared Jumbo Sea Scallops for my main, and I was pretty disappointed. The scallops were cooked well, which is rare, but the accompaniments were so odd…puree and the glaze was so odd together, the bacon just overpowered the scallops, and I didn’t pick up any of the thyme. The addition of the tiny apple slices was also odd. At $40 for a tiny portion of 3 scallops, I would definitely not recommend this. I was glad I had ordered the salad to start and tried the sides, or else I would have been left hungry. The service was good throughout the evening (thank you Elizabeth and the other staff who took care of us). All-in-all, Mason Street Grill is a solid place for dinner downtown, but it is pricey. If you’re looking for good service and ambiance you’ll find it, but for me, the quality of the food and the cost doesn’t match.

Recently visited the Pfister and as part of my room packaged received food credit which we used here. I am vegetarian and asked the server for recommendations to accommodate my dietary restrictions and he gave me a number of options without hesitation. I ended up ordering a pasta dish with mushrooms in place of beef, my companion ordered the petit filet and we had two sides. The server was very attentive but not disruptive. The wine was good and there were plenty of options available by the glass. When the server heard it was my birthday he brought out a complimentary dessert which was decadent and delicious. All the staff wore masks and I felt comfortable that we were appropriately seated away from other diners.

Better make a reservation. Slammed on a Saturday night. We were fortunate to capture a reservation Sunday at 5:30p. As we’re from Chicago, I would rate their filet as comparable to Morton’s! We added brussel sprouts and over ordered mashed potatoes, each side serving enough for 3 (possibly 4). Barrel Aged old fashioned was mixed PERFECTLY. Our server, Olivia, was very sweet and welcoming. Hutch also stopped by to check on our meals … wonderful touch to ensure customer satisfaction with steaks.

Most disappointing experience. After a full day of meetings I went to Mason Street Grill by myself for dinner. Sat at the bar. Service was horrible and food average. After sitting at the bar for over 15 minutes and watching the 2 bartenders talk and acknowledge the regulars, I finally had to ask to order a drink. Not once did any of the bartenders ask. After receiving the drink I waited for the bartender to come back and ask if I wanting anything. No. I had to tell the bartender I was goi g to have dinner at the bar and then received the menu. It gets worse. I had to ask to order as nobody came by to ask. After watching others get set up for their dinner at the bar I once again had to ask for a bread basket. It came, but no silverware or plate. I had to ask. Get the point here. Service was horrible. Once the steak came it was also disappointing. No char on the steak, little seasoning. It was almost as if it was baked. Little flavor. For those that are not a regular and who want a good steak, I would avoid this place.

We booked MSG for a special occasion but were left very disappointed. The shareable starters were fine but we waited over 90 mins for the entrees. When they arrived the steaks were all overdone, the sides were barely warm and the fish was tasteless. Good wine selection but over priced and would not return to or recommend this place

My husband & I went there expecting a great experience & were extremely disappointed!!! The only saving grace was the gumbo,it was excellent, the steaks however flavorless & mashed potatoes were watery & flavorless as well.Im sorry but especially right now with so many restaurants going under if ur gonna charge those kind of prices it better be good.... The service was fine but nothing special as well.I personally will never waste my time or money on this place again, extremely over- rated!!!!!!

We had a wonderful 33rd anniversary dinner here in late November! I stopped by before dinner and dropped off a present for my dear wife to be delivered with dessert. Our waitress and the Grill staff didn't bat an eye. We had very fresh, well-presented salads (chopped and Caesar) to start followed by a perfectly-cooked mid-rare filet topped with (unbroken) Béarnaise for me and delicious short ribs for her. The surreptitious gifting by our waitress with dessert was flawless and the shocked and happy look on my darling's face was priceless. We'll be back to the Mason Street Grill!

Dined here for Christmas Eve as we have traditionally done for many years. Greeted by very unfriendly hostess who told us our table wasn't ready as we were 15 min. early. I had to ask to have her check our coats. We came back in 15 min, and were ignored. When we asked when our table was ready, we were told we would receive a text (even though we were standing right in front of the hostess stand). Text came and she led us to a table near the door when it was below zero outside, so we asked for another table. She reluctantly led us to another table and did not say a word, but rather gestured with her hand that it was our table. She then walked past and glared at us. I asked the server if the chef could prepare the sea scallops in such a way to avoid the cream sauce. I was told that it was "premade" and therefore the chef could not. After checking again, the chef said he could saute the spinach instead of serving the creamed spinach. He totally missed the point. I was asking for a preparation without any cream in the sauce or other items on the plate. Most chefs have ideas on how they can use ingredients they already have for other dishes and substitute the protein, which is what chefs have done at this same restaurant before. I ordered the twin lobster tails which were listed as 5 oz each for $62 rather than the scallops which were $40ish. The tails arrived with nothing else on the plate. They were maybe 3 bites each. Very disappointed. On the way out, there was no one at the hostess stand, so after waiting about 5 minutes, I retrieved our group's coats on my own. Then the hostess came out and glared at us again. My husband tried to talk to her, and her reply was "I'm sorry you feel that way sir." over and over and over to any comment he made. She was robotic. We dined at the Harbor House the week before and had a totally different experience. Prices are similar except you get 2 sides with your protein included. Much better experience! I would avoid Mason Street Grill.

We were there for my birthday… And it was fabulous! Our waiter was Kasey and he did everything right. The hostess was also warm and welcoming and we were able to get it immediate seating despite not having a reservation on a Thursday night at 7 o’clock. We started with the lamb meatballs which were dense and flavorful. The mint pesto was Not overpowering. Main course and dessert were out of this world! Highly recommend if you were looking for a great food and Milwaukee

Mason Street Grill has been a favorite of ours for many years. We’ve always had excellent service and food. So we were very excited to go when they had a special Louisiana menu which included fried oysters, gumbo, blackened fish and bread pudding. Unfortunately the dinner was somewhat disappointing. There was so much breading on the oysters you could barely taste anything but breading. The fish was average and the bread pudding was also average. The only real star if that meal was the gumbo which was thick and had the right amount of spice. My partner opted for the scallops which were good. Our waitress was ok but not nearly as engaging or attentive as we’ve been accustomed to at Mason Street. The young man who provided our bread basket and refilled our water glasses was much friendlier and attentive than our waitress. We always look forward to dining at Mason Street Grill but this was the first time our experience didn’t match what we paid.

Have not visited for years, wanted a restaurant with a varied menu, so looked online. Made reservation 6 weeks ahead. Our group of 6 waited by host station for 20 minutes, until a table was cleared. No one offered to take our coats until we were seated, although they had a coat room. Seated at a longish semi circular booth, which was very tight on the table space for 6. Could not converse with the three at the opposite end of the booth, since the noise level was VERY high. I'd rather have had a table for 6 rather than this booth. Drinks/wine list was electronic, so only one person at a time could peruse that list. Hence a long time to order drinks. I hate those electronic lists! Waiter shouted at us during the entire meal, to be heard. Announced new menu, mostly "steak house" type entrees, pushing beef. Everything listed a la carte. However, most entrees came with veg or starch on the plate, which was not mentioned (in order to induce customers to order the very overpriced "sides." Be sure to ask waiter what is actually on your entree plate before springing for more "sides." ) 4 of us ordered fish/seafood, one had the Wellington and one had a strip steak. Everyone enjoyed their dinner. We were all dressed nicely, in business casual or holiday attire. However, as another reviewer mentioned, we might as well have come in our pajamas. Clientele veered towards the millennial age group, with most coming in wearing very casual attire: sweat shirts, baseball caps (what is it with that?) Leggings. Sloppy clothing. Veered towards "sports bar" rather than an upscale big city restaurant. We will not return since it's not our "scene," it was too loud to hold any kind of conversation and if we want a "steak house" menu, will go to the best place in town for that: Capital Grille.

I love the Pfister Hotel, in Milwaukee, and was excited to try Mason Street Grill, for dinner. I ordered the chopped salad, with the dressing on the side. My husband ordered the gumbo soup. The soup was lukewarm, and my dressing was mixed in the salad. My husband requested a hot bowl of gumbo, however the second bowl was also lukewarm. Our server was nice, but the food is pricey and appears to be mediocre, at best. We probably won’t go back.

Went with a friend for a birthday dinner. Excellent food and service. Ordered an appetizer they were out of, so the waiter comped us a free one "in apology." Very proactive. Ordered the seafood cocktail and it was superb. Mixed seafood in a lemony dressing, doesn't need the cocktail sauce that comes with. Both ordered filet mignon with wild mushrooms and shared truffle creamed spinach and delmomico potatoes. Steaks perfectly prepared, really great seasoning. Server explained their 3 step process that includes lemon zest and brown butter. Wild mushrooms ok, but might be better to try the herbed mushrooms in the sides section instead. Sides are very generous, serves 2 minimum and really enough for 3. Spinach very tasty, but not much truffle taste. Delmonico potatoes served somewhat casserole style with very crusty cheese top. Server asked about special occasion, due to birthday brought gorgeous chocolate desert with candle and 2 spoons. Shoutout to Server Justin who was very knowledgeable about menu and wine. At end of meal, staff was getting antsy to clear the table and made a few too many runs on snatching the dishes before the last bits were gobbled up. Overall, great night.

Flat bread and herb bread brought to table. We ordered gumbo. I ordered pan fried scallops and french fries and wife ordered rib eye and Delmonico potato. Everything was very good. Gumbo had lots of flavor. My only complaint was the fact they had no Tabasco. I was offered another brand.

We enjoyed our meal here. The menu was well rounded and the wine list was plentiful. We especially enjoyed the seafood gumbo and lobster gazpacho. The marinated steak skewered were a bit on the dry side, especially for a steak place. The curry was great. Sonwe enjoyed our meal, but not quite as much as the final bill showed
