Dined here for Christmas Eve as we have traditionally done for many years. Greeted by very unfriendly hostess who told us our table wasn't ready as we were 15 min. early. I had to ask to have her check our coats. We came back in...15 min, and were ignored. When we asked when our table was ready, we were told we would receive a text (even though we were standing right in front of the hostess stand). Text came and she led us to a table near the door when it was below zero outside, so we asked for another table. She reluctantly led us to another table and did not say a word, but rather gestured with her hand that it was our table. She then walked past and glared at us.
I asked the server if the chef could prepare the sea scallops in such a way to avoid the cream sauce. I was told that it was "premade" and therefore the chef could not. After checking again, the chef said he could saute the spinach instead of serving the creamed spinach. He totally missed the point. I was asking for a preparation without any cream in the sauce or other items on the plate. Most chefs have ideas on how they can use ingredients they already have for other dishes and substitute the protein, which is what chefs have done at this same restaurant before. I ordered the twin lobster tails which were listed as 5 oz each for $62 rather than the scallops which were $40ish. The tails arrived with nothing else on the plate. They were maybe 3 bites each. Very disappointed.
On the way out, there was no one at the hostess stand, so after waiting about 5 minutes, I retrieved our group's coats on my own. Then the hostess came out and glared at us again. My husband tried to talk to her, and her reply was "I'm sorry you feel that way sir." over and over and over to any comment he made. She was robotic.
We dined at the Harbor House the week before and had a totally different experience. Prices are similar except you get 2 sides with your protein included. Much better experience!
I would avoid Mason Street Grill.More
