What an awesome place with incredible food. Sat outside, ate one of the best burgers I’ve ever had, fresh, high quality ingredients, local providers, friendly, casual but professional servers. Best place in milwaukee.

A very talented kitchen produces their own sausages made with locally grown meats and veggies; as good as any I’ve eaten in 10 years of living in Europe. At lunch I had a Reuben made with beef tongue; a well-stuffed sandwich on rye that I...promise to return for on my next trip to Milwaukee. Across the table, my adult son consumed a rack of ribs that was falling off of the bone, accompanied by a side of collard greens. There’s lots more on the menu and in the display cases to love. Service was excellent. Obviously, Bavette doesn’t need our business to survive; but I would make it a habit to frequent Bavette if I lived here!More

Do NOT miss the smoked trout deviled eggs!! Wow!! The Reuben was like none other, even tho it sounded like it might not be. I’m not eating bread these days, so they made my Cuban sandwich on a bed of greens, which, along with the...side salad, was fresh and delicious! Our waitress, Kate, was very knowledgeable and friendly. We will make this a much more frequent spot to eat!More

Overall, we really enjoyed the experience. We thought the atmosphere was lacking – then we got real and realized we were in a live, active butcher and cheese shop. At first, we thought the café portion felt a little second, tier. Well, it is and...that’s absolutely perfect, making it an energetic atmosphere. Our waiter Nick was fun, knowledgeable, and efficient. We started with the deviled eggs and shared the cheese & charcuterie plate, and bbq pork with cabbage-apple slaw sandwich. The quality of the food, presentation, and service were top drawer. If the lighting in the café area could be dimmed ( or changed) a bit, all would be perfect. A small criticism.More

We enjoyed our entire experience. First of all, Beth, our server, was extremely helpful with suggestions regarding drink and food selections. This contributed to our experience. It was enjoyable to dine outside with a mature tree-lined park in view across the street. Everything we tried...was great. Perhaps the fried green tomatoes themselves were fine but the shrimp and sauce/salsa made up for it. Great were the following: Steak tar tar... wonderful flavors but no egg. It was not needed Pork soup.... great flavors Braised beef and risotto ... tender and tasty White wine (by the glass & 2nd from last)... light and balanced. Afterwards, we went inside were they have a great looking meat counter for those who want to prepare their own meal at home.More

My husband and I ate lunch at Bavette this past Saturday when we visited Milwaukee. I wanted to love it. I was so excited about it! But the experience wasn't great. We had a reservation for 1pm on Saturday. When we arrived, they didn't have...a table ready for us yet. There were a lot of other people waiting for a table, and there wasn't anywhere to stand. They have tables outside, and the waiters and food go in and out through the front door. We had to stand by the front door with a bunch of other people waiting for tables. It was awkward. Luckily, we didn't wait too long to sit since we had a reservation. Maybe 10 minutes? After we were sat, it was a long time before a waitress stopped by our table. In fact, the table next to us asked if we'd had a waitress stop by yet. They seemed relieved we hadn't; we were in this together. We started with the orange and espelete marinated olives. They were good, but there were too many! I wish they tailored the portion to the number of people at a table! I hate wasting food, but the two of us couldn't eat that many olives! I had the roasted carrot salad with chickpeas, baba ghanoush, dried dates, olives, feta, and pistachio dukkah. The salad was great! My husband got a seared pork sandwich, which he liked. After we ate, it took a while to get our check. To be fair, there was an art fair going on around the block from the restaurant. It could be that they were much busier than usual. But - although I enjoyed the food - the atmosphere was chaotic. It seemed like everyone was running around and rushing, and you could feel that in the restaurant. Definitely not a relaxing lunch. The food was good, but our overall experience was not.More

I ate here twice. Once for a roasted pork sandwich (with delicious toppings on a great bun) to go. A second time for a meal at the bar, trout deviled eggs and a roasted carrot salad (with baba ganoush, dates, olives, pistachios, feta - it...was so good). Both times the food was truly exceptional. The service was also above standard. Genuinely friendly, knowledgable, attentive. I highly recommend! I wish they did breakfast!More

Problem seems to be they offer mixed drinks but do not have a bartender per se. The waitresses make the mixed drinks along with trying to wait tables.Does not make for good service. They make a house burger only on Wednesday night. That was tasty and...served with a small bowl of potato salad with a touch of curry powder. The cheese tray was well done- seemed a value compared to other entrees. Pricey wine list- wine in Wisconsin is terrible in general. They have ambitious aims- almost pull it off May or may not try againMore
