We ate breakfast here - since we were staying at the Doubletree. Ordered breakfast off the menu one day (breakfast burrito) and had the breakfast buffet the next. Both were very good. Wait staff was very good, as well.

I love the hotel and the bar except for the inappropriate advances and touching by owner and the bartender on Friday's who avoids customers to flirt with owner at end of bar. Waited 6 minutes for her to ask if I needed something. Male bartender...on Saturday was wonderful!!More

Went for dinner ordered a Chicken Caesar Salad. What I got was wilted romaine lettuce slathered in dressing with 4 small strips of chicken. When I called waitress they took it back and offered something else on menu. I selected a quesadilla appetizer. When it...arrived the bottom was so wet you could not pick it up to eat it. I just gave up and left.More

My waitress was Valerie, who was extremely doting to me. She wanted me to eat well and get my money's worth, and being in a semi-hurry to do other things in town and not wanting to over-eat, I kept saying no to her. I ordered...the macaroni & cheese with chicken, and the dish was delicious. I tried a cheddar biscuit with it, which wasn't bad. Restaurant recommended, especially if staying at the Doubletree, which it is a part of.More

We have been here many times over the past ten years. We always love the bar. They have the coldest and best Spotted Cow on tap. We had a room wedding block over Memorial Day Weekend. Friday night we invited our guests to gather at...the bar. The bar was a big hit. On Saturday between the church and reception the bar was opened for people to gather at. The cheese curds were a big hit. The restaurant always has a great breakfast buffet. There is always plenty of fresh fruit and hot breakfast food choices. If you want different eggs they will prepare them per your request. On Sunday evening we wanted to gather with our out of town family. We were a table of 21. We had a long table and then a booth for the kids. We drank and ate. People loved the cheese curds and French onion soup. Everyone loved their entrees. The service was excellent. We were happy they could accommodate our family.More

After a poor experience at Build-a-Burger next door, we walked into Avenue Bar & Grill simply because it was nearby and we were trying to get lunch. I wish we had been in a different area of Milwaukee so we would have had another option,...because our experience wasn’t great. The food was surprisingly good, but that was the only redeeming thing about our visit. Maybe the staff at the Avenue have never had children eat in their restaurant (although I doubt that, as it is in a hotel). We walked in and were eventually greeted by a server who yelled “everyone just calm down and be quiet!”. She probably saw the looks on our faces because she quickly backtracked and said she was talking to the other staff members who were nearby, but it definitely seemed like she was talking to my friend’s two small children. I would have walked out, but as we had already struck out getting a table at Build-a-Burger and we were on a time crunch, we ended up staying. The restaurant was fairly empty, so we were able to sit at a booth, so the kids didn’t need booster seats. I ended up ordering the Caprese BLT and waffle fries. The fries were solid, and the sandwich was pretty nice. My sister went with the lunch buffet and enjoyed the options at the salad bar. My friend went with the Cheddar Mac Melt, which looked interesting with the mac and cheese on the sandwich. She said it was good. The kids enjoyed their mac and cheese with fries and fruit. Our server ended up being the woman who had yelled when we first walked in. The service was just okay for the duration of our visit. She dropped off the bill right after we received our food, which was appreciated so we could leave at our leisure since it was the lunch hour, but it took quite a long time to return the card, and even longer to flag her down to request a couple of boxes. The manager(?), who at one point helped seat us, seemed like a pleasant man, but the server who yelled, probably at a woman who was 8 months pregnant and two small children, really spoiled the place for us. Although the food was good I wouldn’t return.More

This place for the past two nights have been very disappointing. The bigger and taller bartender dosnt smile and very unapproachable. He has worked the last three days. The lady (bartender) had a shirt that wasn't clean and it was untucked. She came back from...outside and a rush of nicotine smoke come rushing my way while she put her personal belongings up under the bar while I ate. It was hard to get attention from the bartenders throughout the evening. A former employee sat two stools down and had most of the staff around him talking about how they would fill out fake comment cards and laugh at the boss when he would read them. I couldn't get my refills in time and the conversation was loud and overbearing. To make matters worse a person who's name I think was Hollie (a older Male server) blew his nose very close to me while I was eating. I didn't get to let anyone know that my burger I ordered was way overcooked. Everyone was more focused on the former employee a d talking about the past shenanigans they would do. I figured it was a bad day a d the former employee probably had everyone off there game. I think since its Marriott it should be just a bad day. Today I went a d the same lack of awareness is still there. Hard to get service and most of the people just are going through the motions. My fettuccine was bland. I ate a few bites a d got to tell Donald behind the Bar. He was a nice guy but was lost when I told him I didn't like it. I just paid my tax and left. Terrible service without a lot of guest.More

Am a regular at this hotel. The entire facility is run VERY well. Jeff has his staff perfectly trained... everyone is ultra service-oriented and hard working. Really enjoy staying here each time I come into MKE. I was pleasantly surprised with the breakfast buffet, which...was new since the last time I stayed. Wow! I don't usually eat breakfast, but I do now at the Doubletree! BUT.... Please, please, please look for improvement in the dinner operations space!! I used to be able to get a great NY Strip steak here. Suppliers changed a couple years ago, and the good quality steak was gone. When I pointed it out, staff admitted to the changing of suppliers. No worries, I thought... I had tried the char-grilled steak salad, and it was my new favorite (and healthy!). Last time I was in town, end of last year, I ordered the steak salad again, at the bar. When it was served, I noticed there wasn't as much salad and veggies on the plate, and the filet seemed smaller. Speaking of filet, it was way over-cooked. I sent it back, the Manager apologized and recovered nicely by comp'ing my meal. Wanting to reciprocate, I invited 3-4 colleagues at work to join me for a meal at the Avenue, and advised them all that my favorite was the steak salad. A couple of them ordered it, others ordered other items. When our food came out, the 3 salads were not good. The quality of the meat was poor, the meat was cold, and the meat was not cooked to specification. The salad was also not up to par. I didn't have the guts to call out the Manager for the 2nd night in a row. The rest in our party all reported their meals to be just ok, not very good, but edible. They admitted to not being inspired to come back. So, I'm thinking quality is inconsistent at the Avenue. Jeff, please take my feedback to heart. You are losing lots of business (those colleagues could have been repeat customers) due to iffy meals being served at dinner time. It is the ONLY aspect of the Doubletree that falls short. Please get involved to turn that operation around (unless it's not under your purview??)More

We were staying at the Doubletree and had gotten in a bit late, so we went down for dinner. We thought they might be closed as there was no one here. Then we saw one other couple and went in. Extremely limited menu and extremely...overpriced. The food was just so-so and for there to be only us and one other couple, there was no service to speak of. We did have breakfast included, so with some trepidation we went down for breakfast and were surprised at the difference. The offerings were quite good and there was a variety to choose from and the service was good. So I would have gone with a lower rating but the breakfast redeemed them. I would only eat here out of convenience. There are so many other great places to eat .More
