In 1976 Milwaukee native Steve Sazama, a.k.a. Saz, opened Saz's State House Restaurant in a historic building nestled beside the railroad tracks on the West Side of town. Saz knew how to make his customers happy with great food and stellar service. Disappointing Experience on a Thursday Night

Visited this restaurant on a Thursday night with high expectations, but unfortunately, the experience fell short. Even had a guest from out-of-state. I ordered the full rack of ribs, all the meat were carved almost completely off the bone, which took away from the experience. Additionally, the ends were partially blackened, affecting the flavor. The famous mac and cheese, which I had heard so much about, was a real letdown – bland and not at all what I expected. One odd thing that stood out was the size of the plates. They were way too small to comfortably eat a full rack of ribs, making the whole experience quite awkward. Others in my party ordered the chicken and ribs combo, but we were surprised to find that what was listed as a chicken breast was actually a thigh. To top it off, the beer on tap was served warm, which was disappointing. What made the experience even worse was the service. We had to wait over 10 minutes for our waitress, who was chatting with a friend instead of attending to her tables. After that, we waited a long time for our food, which was clearly pre-prepared. Saz's staff helped create a memorable party

I had a celebration of life at Saz’s on June 24, 2023, and it was a wonderful experience from planning to the end of the party! From Sarah’s help in planning and patience with my fears about it being too crowded, to Caitlin checking to throughout the event to ensure everything was going smoothly. Everyone helped to make the day everything our family and friends hoped for. Nadia and AshlLee were incredibly helpful, professional, and gracious with everyone. They did a fantastic job serving food and beverages, making sure everyone was taken care of throughout the day. My sincerest thank you to everyone working that day, including to the catering staff, kitchen, and everyone behind the scenes who worked to make sure the event went well! I’d give a higher review if it were possible.

Show me the pulled pork

My wife, my son and I had dinner at Saz’s to celebrate my son’s birthday. The waitress that took care of us was very good and the food was good (not great). My only complaint was the amount of pulled pork in the sandwich I had. The sandwich looked like a pulled pork pancake inside a bun. For $14 I would expect a reasonable amount of pulled pork. Maybe that’s the new normal at Saz’s these days.

Not again or for big parties

Do not come here if you do it have a reservation. We were in town for a wedding and decided to go out in the last night. We had 16 ppl (5 kids), they would not separate the bill in 2, sat us in 2 tables w backs to each other and took each tables orders at different times. The second table asked to order after 10 min so we could hopefully be done at the same time. Asked again about our food bc we were served at 2 different times. Good was good but they were not accommodating and rude when they had the wrong food item at one point.

How a good restaurant goes bad

Been visiting Milwaukee for over 20 years. We've gone to Saz almost every trip. What a let down this year 2022, The server was non attentive and often ignored what we requested. She even made errors in the order. The ribs were cold when they came to the table. It was the worst time and worst food as well as worst service ever had in Milwaukee. We will not go back

Stopped for lunch with friends. Had not been there for a while. Menu is great. My Chicken Parmesan Sandwich was great. Was able to order half chips and half fries with my sandwich...both were great and I have never been offered to have that. Our waitress, Lauren was great and she and many other staff have worked there for over 15 years...says something about Saz, the owner :) Stop in if you haven't for a while!

Waited for 15 minutes and ordered a drink that never was served . After asking about it the server starting berating me for even asking .. however right after that I received my food order . Must have been sitting in the kitchen for a while because everything was cold ! ..next time I’ll go to Leff’s ..no bad attitude there ! And I believe the prices are bit lower and thefood is yummy

The Brewer shuttles are great, too! Get the famous sampler platter! We love the ambiance and relaxed nature of the restaurant and love stopping in for lunch.

Resting on their laurels?

When was the last time you went to Saz's? Have you been going for years, maybe decades? Were you thinking it Was a hoppin' good restaurant, why not try it again? Think again and definitely do NOT order the butternut squash ravioli. (Plus, friend's french fries were cold).

Berries Galore???

Had the pancakes with Berries Galore, good thing I wasn’t hungry. Pancakes were more of a crepe thickness...certainly NOT $11 worth. My dining companion had the Belgium waffles Berries Galore, waffles were small as well. No leftovers here!

One Hell of a Blood Mary!

We celebrated a good friend's birthday at Saz's. The host, bartender and server were all super friendly and attentive. The Hellfire Bloody Mary is so delicious! It is spicy (yet not over the top) and so flavorful! The burger special was great, and at $17 not inexpensive, but you felt like you got what you paid for. The birthday girl was treated with a special dessert that was so decadent it should probably be outlawed! We were a party of five and everyone enjoyed their food and the evening!

Stop for food

I had the French dip. Oh my goodness it was great. The best French dip I've had. My wife had the chicken ceasar salad and had to bring half home. It was a 4 star for sure.
