It doesn't look like much from the outside but wander in and you'll be happily surprised! The owner was our waiter and took great care of us. The food was well prepared and delicious. Great access to the Rep Theater complex right across the street.

Always like going to China Gourmet. Plenty of food, tastes great from very mild no spice to a nice spicy kick. Best egg roll around light and crispy

I’ll keep it simple. I ordered the honey garlic chicken and spring rolls with steamed rice. It isn’t listed on the menu that there are mushrooms in the dish. I have a mushroom allergy and not until I began eating it, did I realize that...there were mushrooms in it. I immediately stopped and threw away the meal. I took a Lyft to pick up the food and was not willing to pay to take it back as I was not feeling well. I hope they correct this issue with an offer to make it right so that I can change the review for the experience of the food. I’ve eaten here many times before, having ordered different items. This is the first time I’ve had an experience like this. I’ll wait to see what happens.More

I ordered the honey garlic chicken and the menu is very straight forward. However I received a meal where the chicken was not deep fried and there were tons more vegetables in it than what the menu stated. This included mushrooms which I have a...SEVERE allergy too. I was home by the time I was able to eat it and I wasnt going to pay to go back to exchange it. I hope they try to make this right. I’m very disappointed as I’ve eaten there before and had no complaints before now.More

I tried the buffet last time and it was pretty good but I usually get the chef's special duck. It has always been consistently excellent.

Next to the "Bronze Fonz" is a really great restaurant. Large banquet looking place with a big buffet of very good Chinese dishes. Crab Rangoon, steamed potstickers and Governor's Chicken were all quite good. Many choices at decent prices. Glad we stopped here. It looks...older, but everything was clean - including the bathrooms.More

We stopped for the Saturday night buffet after attending a long matinee performance at The Rep across the street. Convenient location and quick food was our main objective. We found a delicious assortment of Chinese dishes, fried rice, a variety of sauces, along with steamed...dumplings, crispy eggrolls and the best crab rangoon ever! Only sorry we hadn't tried this restaurant years ago.More

We’d spotted this restaurant directly across Wells St. from the entrance of the Milwaukee Rep. With the shuttering of Kil@wat Restaurant, there are few alternatives for a quick dinner within easy walking distance of the Rep and its underground parking, but China Gourmet is one,...so we decided to try it recently before a show. The exterior and interior show their age and it’s dark and cluttered inside. The manager/host is extremely friendly and welcoming. The menu is pretty typical, but there’s a huge buffet with many, many choices available for lunch and dinner weekend. Food and drink quality were mixed for our dinner. My wife’s wonton soup was bland, needing much more seasoning, while my hot and sour doup was very tasty. My wife enjoyed her tableside-prepared sizzling rice shrimp, which was loaded with well-prepared shrimp. My sweet and sour pork was skimpy on veggies and the pork was coated with mushy rather than crisp batter. We were able to get in and out of the restaurant in 50’ prior to a Saturday night show. Overall, China Gourmet offers a reasonable dining alternative when attending shows at the Rep or Pabst Theaters.More

I was in town for a conference and needed some Chinese. My order was delivered within an hour, which I thought was pretty good. Szechwan wonton was the best I have ever eaten. Tung-an Chicken was outstanding also.

Our grandson spotted China Gourmet on the other side of the river one day and asked if we could eat there the next time we went to the Milwaukee Museum. After checking it out on Tripadvisor we figured it would be kid friendly and went...for their lunch buffet. It wasn't the best Chinese buffet we've ever been to, but it wasn't the worst either. found a parking space about two blocks away, but using the River Walk made it short and fun. Very creepy statue of The Fonz, but the grandchildren enjoyed it. Upon arrival at the restaurant we were greeted by Robert, the owner, and after that he gave us incredible service. We sat at the far back of the restaurant in case the kids got a little bit noisy, however there weren't enough people inside to worry about it. The food was adequate. A nice selection of appetizers, a variety of meats and vegetables, and a dessert area with jello, mini donuts, and almond cookies. Unfortunately the food was cold; the small deep fried pieces of chicken weren't fully cooked and were very greasy, and there wasn't anything that we ate where we could say YUM! The pleasant part of the meal was the very attentive service by Robert. We might return someday, but we're not in any hurry to do so. Maybe ordering off the menu would be better. We had the lunch buffet for two adults, two children under 8, two lemonades and a coke. The total check came to $55.00 with the tip.More
