It's not what you'd expect being in the basement of a business building, but Shah Jee's is a local gem with amazing food. It tends to get really crowded during the lunch hour M-F, but if you go just off the peak time, it's really quick. They only offer carry-out, but there are common tables shared by a couple places... a hole in the wall but GREAT Indian/ Pakistani cuisine. Opens for lunch only 5 days per week. AMAZING food with great experience. For 8 $ you get rice, 2 sides and a drink! A great experience and food. Warning: really flavorful, can be a tad spicy. Staff are fast and efficient yet extremely welcoming and friendly.

I've been a loyal customer and big fan of Shah Jee's for over ten years and will remain one for as long as they are around. I always get two "Specials" the Tuesday - Chana masala, Chicken masala and basmati rice AND The Thursday - Daal Masoor, Chicken masala and basmati rice . I always tell myself that I will... More

Just a lunchtime place - carry out or eat in a common area. Limited menu but good at what it does. Has an almost cult-like following.

If you find it, you will go back often. The buffet choices are limited each day, so you know its going to be fresh and good. People line up early, so hop to it! The bread is very authentic and awesome! I especially like the saag paneer (sp?), one of my favorites. Portions are good for the price. You question... More

Working downtown for many decades, I still run into people who have no idea what or where Shah Jee's is. The restaurant is in Milwaukee's East-Town business district in the basement of an office building on Jefferson Street. I describe the experience as "cafeteria style". No fuss, no muss, no waitstaff to deal with. Depending on what time you arrive,... More

The lunch special gets you chicken, rice, another side and a drink for $8. The portions are generous and full of flavors. For an extra dollar, you can get fresh roti. Always a line so get there early.

It is very tasty and you can feel the homeliness in the food and your tummy thanks you for treating it well. However, this time i had a funny experience. There was a long line and the cashier refused... More

This is a Pakistani take-away place open for lunch in the basement of an office building. There is seating in the basement courtyard. The food and service are excellent. The courtyard lacks atmosphere, but for a lunch takeaway place one should not expect more.

OK, so the dining room - if you can call it that - is like a school cafeteria with no atmosphere whatsoever. So what, I say! The loooooooooooooooooong line of people waiting for food told me that it must be good. I had chicken masala, basmati rice, and red lentils. The green sauce was a nice addition. Everything was delicious... More
