Another place we've discovered while looking for a place to get dinner in MKE. Located on Michigan street - slightly off the "beaten path" - fairly central, with a few tables outside and a good seating capacity inside - it is not a very big...place, so prepare for a little waiting - especially at certain hours. It is what I would call a typical American eatery, with the menu concentrated on the favorite type of dishes you will find in the American diners .. From the menu - I've picked the half rack ribs , tasty , nicely cooked, the meat was falling of the bones, the sauce was perfectly balanced between sweet and sour, a nice dish - the carrots , well not bad, but I would not say those were a highlight , still together with the ribs went very well. In terms of drinks - the menu was loaded with a lot of options , so you just need to pick your "poison" of choice. Service - was fairly decent , the place was packed , so it was normal that it took a while. The price to quality ratio is very good. Overall a very good place, with a very good menu , and very good food quality... if you are traveling to MKE you shall try it.More

The food was delicious, atmosphere brilliant and the location fine - apart from the fact that the waiter seemed to be intoxicated and insisted me to write down the PIN-code of my credit card despite I asked him to bring me the chipcard reader instead....Everyone is well aware that one should NEVER ask for the PIN-code of a credit card. I have encountered same kind of behavior only while traveling in Moscow. For apparent reasons, I have to give only a single star.More

Came here for a late lunch on a Saturday. We knew this place would be good when we saw it was packed at 3pm! We started with the mozzarella sticks. For our meal, I had the Sriracha Chicken and my partner had the sliders. Everything...was delicious and the food came out quick! We thought this was a great place to do lunch.More

I'm torn about leaving a stellar review, only because this place is such a great place and institution to Milwaukee that I'd hate to ruin it! But it IS that good. It's a hidden gem that most people don't give a second thought to when...driving by. While not a large place, it's always packed with locals who know good food, good bartenders, and good service. I don't think there's an item on the menu that isn't great. My personal favorite is the "B.E.L.T." (BLT w/a fried egg!). And you can't beat the 3 for 5 deal when you want to quench your thirst. Honestly, just go. You won't regret it. Weird if caution, if you plan on going when something's happening downtown, plan ahead and get there early. There will be a wait!More

A great lunch following a visit to the art gallery. An absolute gem of a pub - great atmosphere, draft local beers and excellent food. The best Club sandwich I’ve had for a very long time - lots of filling, less bread which I loved.... Friendly staff that welcomed a couple of out of towners.More

Great visit to the Swinging Door. While in Milwaukee we went here for dinner and were delighted. Our server Michael was fun and awesome! He knew the menu and specials top to bottom. I had the in house smoked corned beef Reuben, delicious. I elevated...my dinner with a side of roasted beets topped with goat cheese and was happy I did. The carrot cake was divine. The bartender was on game with my side car. A great choice for a meal!More

My friend and I arrived by Uber after a long travel day to the welcoming smiles of the servers/bartenders. Believe the hype, the local drafts were perfectly paired with the small plates. We ordered Chili which came with toppings on the side (pro move), sliders...(bartender made sure we saved a few bucks by combining the orders) and the Ahi Tuna. That was my favorite and it was prepared perfectly. Don’t miss this awesome establishment if you visit Downtown Milwaukee.More

Third time in MKE, and third time to the Swinging Door. Each time has been fantastic and we now make this a must stop when in town. Had the grilled beet salad, a grilled cheese sandwich and a couple of beers, and it was a...perfect night. Staff friendly and the food is always great. Completely recommend.More

Excellent fish fry, both the cod and perch. Great old school feel inside with good service. A few tables outside where dogs are allowed.

I was in town for the Foo Fighters concert with some friends from Illinois. I was in charge of picking dinner for Saturday night and The Swinging Door Exchange was my choice. It did not disappoint. Although they were busy a seemingly short staffed our...waitress was on the ball with drinks and water to start. We all ordered something different (I forgot to get a list) but everyone was very pleased. Personally I had a Cesar salad, Ahi tuna appetizer cooked rare, ribs appetizer, and a side of fries. I ate everything and was completely satisfied. The cocktails were all well done and water was supplied in plenty. If you ever find yourself in Milwaukee, I highly recommend stopping here. You will not be disappointed!More

We visited twice during our visit to Milwaukee. Once for lunch & drinks, then returned for just drinks. Both experiences were fantastic. The food here is incredible. I had a cup of chili to start. It was very good. I also had the wedge salad...with grilled chicken. The greens in the salad were super fresh, I swear it had so much delicious bacon on it I could hardly eat it all. The chicken was grilled to perfection. My husband had a tuna melt and started with a salad with the ginger dressing. He thoroughly enjoyed his food as well. I snuck a few french fries from his plate and I must say, they were fresh and delicious. We both had Old Fashioneds, his with bourbon and mine with rum. The bartender went out of his way to ensure the drinks were perfect. The second day I also enjoyed several Mimosas while sitting at the bar. I'd definitely return to this place if we were in Milwaukee again. The service was also outstanding!More

We were in about 1:00 AM for drinks. Kitchen was closed (fair enough). Ordered an Amaretto sour and brandy old fashion. The sour was watery. The brandy old fashion was based on something carbonated and sweet that came from the wand. No cocktail skills here....Tables weren't being bussed. On the positive side the place has a great vibe and old-neighborhood-bar kitsch. I would come here for a beer and a sandwich earlier in the evening. If you want a craft or scratch built cocktail this is not the place.More

We came to Milwaukee for the weekend and ate a late dinner here. It’s a very friendly place and the owner spoke to us for several minutes and gave us a free desert when he heard it was our anniversary. The food was fresh and...great for a bar restaurant. We would go again.More

I recommended this restaurant to my friends who came in from St. Louis I love this place, but then got nervous knowing I was suggesting a place for 5 other people. They always made the *best* Brandy old fashions ever and did not disappoint last...night. We had the famous vermouth carrots and spicy (but not too spicy) brussel sprouts. Everyone loved them. The orders varied, but everyone was satisfied. I had my favorite dinner, açaí tuna as did the person next to me. We both decided we would never order anything else there, EVER, because I was so delicious. And our server was excellent. The food and service is consistently good and It is the casual Milwaukee environment we love.More

I’m pretty sure we ordered the wrong thing for this place. We had two salads and I had the chili. Other people around us were having sandwiches it looked off the chart good. The chili was average at best the salad was very average. And...not very large. Service is good. The atmosphere was outstanding! It reminded me of some of the old bars and nightclubs in Chicago very cozyMore

There is parallel parking on the street in front of the restaurant. There is also a pay parking garage about a half block away.
