I took 3 couples that were visiting from out of town to the Art Museum and lunch. I wanted a taste of Milwaukee (I remembered Karl Ratzsch). My first visit here was in the 80's, and I really loved the food. I wasn't let down on this visit, the food was delicious. The new owner came to our table to... More

Took my grandparents, customers of K.R.'s and Maders since the 1930s (!), for lunch. We've been to Ratzsch's countless times over the years as a family and individuals. First thing we noticed right away was that the dining room is much lighter and brighter than under the previous ownership - this is not the dark, cavernous German restaurant you may... More

We were planning a visit on our last trip, but they were shut down for re-modeling. When I found out who the new owner/chef was, we got excited because we really like c.1880. While the decor is not our thing (remember this is a German restaurant and it reflects that), the food was wonderful - the service was also very... More

Really exceptional food. Even the liver dumpling soup was a treat. Various sides like red cabbage and potato dumplings were every bit as exceptional as the main courses. I love German food and Ratzsch's is the best I've ever had. Service and decor also exceptional

Came here to eat specifically for the sauerbraten. In the past, it mirrored or was even better than what I made at home. Stepping into the place, I quickly noticed that some updates have been made. No longer is it dark and smelling of a basement. Fresh lighting and paint have been applied. The servers are sporting new updated uniforms.... More

For traditional German cuisine, this is the place to go. Excellent selection of local and German beers as well as an extensive menu of German dishes.

just got back from a trip to Milwaukee, we wanted some German food and the last time we tried Mader's we thought it was just ok. So someone recommended Karl's place. It felt like Germany when we walked in. The menu has lots of German dishes, I had the Weinershnitzel which was very good. It was Friday, so my husband... More

Having lived in Germany 16 years, and traveled much throughout the country, I'd consider myself more than qualified to recognize what's authentic and what's not....even when allowing for regional differences. This restaurant has an outstanding reputation, but I can't help but think it's based on past performance and/or ratings by folks who don't know German food to begin with. The... More

I have been going to this restaurant since Karl, himself, was always stationed in the dining room. Ne owner has done some modest redecorating resulting in a somewhat brighter dining room. I prefer the darker original. Food was OK but not above average. Now we were there for lunch and the new place has been open only a month, so... More

What a surprise to visiit a german restaurant in the east town of Milwaukee with a quite original cuisine and menu small sprouts have to be boiled before to be serve and not only burned in a oven because it's just not possible to eat that !
