Flavorful Stews and Fresh Injera, YUM!

Alem Ethiopian Village has a FULL PAGE of vegetarian items that are ALSO VEGAN! The waitress was attentive and helpful with our order as it was my family's first visit. I had the Quosta (streamed spinach) with the Yemiser Wot(spicy split lentils). It was amazing. The waitress brought extra injera... read more

We ordered vegetarian items. The overall experience was of having a cold dinner with left overs from previous few days. The dishes were not hot as in freshly cooked. Felt like slightly heated in a microwave after taking out of the fridge. The injeras were cold also and did not feel fresh. The ambiance and service was excellent, but the... More

Was missing Indian food after coming to Milwaukee. Finally got this place to have something similar to Indian veg food. Although its an Ethiopian restaurant but I liked it as the taste and food options were just like Indian with uniqueness of Ethiopian food as well. The lunch buffet was vegan and that's what I was searching for. Now i... More

We had the lamb and chicken for two and it was delicious with the exact amount of spiciness! The chicken was a favorite of mine, it was full of flavor and juicy! I have celiac disease and must eat gluten free so we had gluten free injera bread. They also gave us the regular injera and my husband actually preferred... More

My hometown has a delicious little Ethiopian restaurant and I've loved the food and the experience of a little culture completely different than American food. No utensils just you, your food and your hands...great! We were in Milwaukee for a concert and found that this little place was walking distance from Riverside Theater. Perfect. On a Friday night we expected... More

The restaurant is somewhat hidden from the street and shares its entrance with another business, but the food is wonderful. We had the Ethiopian Vegetarian Sampler with ten toppings from the vegetarian options and it was wonderful. We try to eat in Ethiopian restaurants around the country when we travel and this was in the top five in terms of... More

If I had to just rate the food it would be a 5/5. But the service was hideously slow and the bathroom was plugged up and the sewage smell leaked into the dining room whenever someone opened the door. Hopefully that's fixed now.

I should start by saying I've only been to two other Ethiopian restaurants in my life -- this was the best one. The combination of spices were unlike anything I've tasted before and the presentation was interesting and fun. Perhaps this restaurant's only shortcoming is its decor and layout. It looks like a generic A1 China Express buffet-type place that... More

The restaurant serves authentic Ethiopian food. The interiors have a rustic feel resembling a small village out in Ethiopia. The food is very delicious and also very healthy at the same time. Curiously the Ethiopian cuisine greatly resembles Indian cuisine as a result of which we felt right at home with the food. I personally liked the collection of vegetarian... More

Six of us (two gluten free) enjoyed a delicious lunch at Alem. Although, the buffet would have been quite sufficient on its own (both vegetarian and gluten-free) we decided to try three meat entrees just to enjoy the different flavors. The meats were tender and well prepared - one lamb and two chicken. The flavors blended beautifully with the buffet... More
