The waitstaff (Kate), the ambiance, the wine, and the majority of the food my husband and I ordered were 5 out of 5. The only thing that wasn’t was the trout which was so good it doesn’t even belong on a scale. My husband cannot...stop raving about how excellent the trout was and he didn’t even order it! It was heavenly and blew us out of the water. Jonathan, you absolutely killed it in the best way possible. I KNOW we will be back for more.More

Incredible Flavors and Impeccable Service I eat, I cook, I dine out. I work in the wine industry, and my life revolves around food and wine. Three things on this menu are now in my top 20 favorite bites, ever. 1. Focaccia with a candle...made of Waygu tallow 2. The Duroc pork chop 3. Those seared scallops Special shout outs to Cooper, Pringle (you are fabulous), and Louis for providing us an extraordinary evening at Ash.More

Tonight my husband, son and I had dinner at Ash. It was the absolute Best dinner we have had in a really long time. Started out with a warm welcome from Louie, who totally accommodated us because we had had a reservation for 2, but...our son joined us, so Louie had no trouble getting us in. Aaron was our server. Aaron did an amazing job! He was very attentive and so friendly. Our entrees were absolutely amazing! I would highly recommend the pork belly and salt seared Wagu for appetizer. Excellent. And the flat iron steak and bone in rib-eye was grilled to perfection!! Truly a wonderful experience!!More

Dinner for 2 at Ash was a wonderful experience. We enjoyed the warm weather and cold drinks at The Yard first. Our exceptionally seasoned & grilled steaks were presented by our attentive & pleasant server, Kate. These were, by far, the best steaks we’ve had!

Where do I begin? First, the host staff appeared to either be on PCP, have an active case of rabies, or simply confused by two humble walk-ins who happened to be staying at the hotel looking for a table in what appeared to be an...empty restaurant. We were slightly concerned about our Easter brunch. But alas, we struck gold. Our lovely server, Avery, was a beaming saint on this day of holy resurrection. She was kind and knowledgeable, but she also guided us through a winding labyrinth of a menu with nothing but patience and thoughtful consideration for our dietary adventure. When I expressed inherent apprehension about a lobby omelet bar, she was reassuring with her experience at Ash that I would not be disappointed. And if I may quote my father and say “The fool doth think he is wise, but the wise man.” Avery’s guidance was not misplaced and I can honestly say the omelet bar made up for the lack of any Easter egg hunt put on by the hotel. Who needs the Easter bunny when you have helpful servers like Avery. The sun really shone down on Milwaukee this cold Easter morning.More

We went to Ash Milwaukee tonight for our anniversary and it was the best meal we’ve ever had! We had the wagyu and pork chop, among other things. Both were phenomenal. We will be back for sure! Aaron was our server and he was so...nice and very attentive! Couldn’t of asked for a better night!More

We were given a gift certificate for Ash (located within the Iron Horse hotel). Reservations were easy to setup and the place is clean. Food was good but, IMHO, nothing to write home about and too expensive for the atmosphere and quality of food. Don't...get me wrong, the place is nice but it felt small and more upscale "family restaurant" than upscale steakhouse which is what I anticipated. Steak is expensive in top end restaurants, I get it. But a $70 Porterhouse should be better than the one we had. Not to name drop but 5 o'clock Steakhouse has a $70 porterhouse and THAT is what you expect for that $70. Even the flat iron steak, while prepared properly (medium rare per my request) was ok but also expensive (IMHO) at $36. I've had better fillets at about the same price elsewhere. The wine list, while not huge had some very nice wines. Unfortunately, they are EXCESSIVELY marked up... Even for a high-end restaurant. Typical markups are 2 times the retail price and that's expected. However, Ash has marked them up almost 2.8x! A 2017 Caymus Cabernet retails for around $85-$95... their price .. $250! That's almost 3x the retail price. Personally, I think charging 2x retail is gouging but I've accepted that if you want that wine, you pay that price or don't buy it. But a 2.8x markup is ludicrous. I wouldn't care so much but nearly all their wines were marked up in the same fashion (I only checked 3 but they are all excessively marked up). Overall, it was a nice dinner. Our wait staff were pleasant and wait time for our orders were pretty standard. All that said, I don't think we'll be going back and would have felt worse about this experience had we not had the gift card. If you have a choice, I would recommend a plethora of other places to eat in and around the DT Milwaukee area and the surrounding areas. P.S. On a side note, as the signs posted outside stated, "masks required", we noticed several restaurant employees not wearing masks entirely or wearing them around their chins. I'm not really one to care about the mask mandates but if you are going to post that guests must wear masks, I can't see why the restaurant employees aren't also wearing masks (both "cooks" weren't wearing masks at all. I do understand how bad that must be working in close proximity to open flames, etc... But if it's so dangerous to be unmasked for customers, how is it that my food prep people don't have to wear the masks?)More

This restaurant is top notch. The service and food was amazing from start to finish. We had the grilled avocado, pork sausage, caesar salad, chicken and trout. Must have the chocolate cake and bread pudding. Our server Etza was fantastic! Definitely recommend this dining experience.

My wife and I had dinner there on Saturday, 1-15-22. We each had the bone in rib eye steak and both were delicious. For an appetizer we had the Spaetzle and that was excellent. The roasted Brussels sprouts and fingerling potatoes were also very good....It was truly a wonderful dining experience as the atmosphere, service and food were outstanding. We will definitely visit there again.More

From the moment I peeked in as we were checking in at the Iron Horse Hotel, I knew something had changed at the restaurant (we hadn´t been to the hotel since the spring of 2019). For starters, it is now named ASH Hearth and Bar....Beyond the name change, the striking new space was very classy and the aroma immediately welcomed us for what turned out to be a most memorable dining experience. Ash´s warm atmosphere, which included a highly knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and collaborative team – together with outstanding service – aligned perfectly with the enticing scents and the view of the chefs cooking at the hearth, helping connect all the senses for a truly delectable and entertaining evening. Our two main courses were a bone-in ribeye and a marinated chicken, which our server Shannon enthusiastically endorsed. From start to finish, the flavors were delightful and surprising in their complexity and uniqueness. The presentation was all around beautiful with the highlight of the meal being the simply named, yet perfectly seasoned, marinated chicken. Its multi-faceted flavors and succulence were unlike any chicken I have previously tasted. Equally appetizing was the ribeye and smashed fingerlings, as well as a delightful grilled avocado and an absolutely exquisite bread pudding. Wow! We can´t wait to go back for another unforgettable dinner such as the one we enjoyed last Friday evening at Ash. I recommend this incredible and adventurous dining experience to anyone living in or visiting Milwaukee.More

Once upon a time a very unique hotel opened in Milwaukee called The Iron Horse Hotel. Its main restaurant Smyth was adequate but then changed its name to Ash, and the food quality slowly slid downhill. The pandemic hit and now Ash is being rebuilt...from the ashes by Louie Spetrini with his knowledge and professionalism within the restaurant business. Louie is back and so is Ash. After the dinner we had for Jeff's birthday tonight, Ash can now hold its rank with some of the best restaurants in the city of Milwaukee. Watch out Milwaukee, Louie is back and he has made a difference, The ribeye, the pork chop, the fried brussels sprouts were terrific, only to name a few. The Yard will change and we will love it. Support this incredible hotel and its restaurants.More

We dined at Ash on Saturday night and we had amazing service and an amazing dinner. Scott in valet greeted us at the front of the hotel and open the doors for all of us, making us feel like VIPs. Our server Aron in Ash,...was amazing and his details to the menu really helped us find the items we would enjoy. We started out with an amazing shareable dish, grilled cheese bread with preserves, pecans and Car Valley cheese! Then we went on to share the grilled avocado with bacon bits on the side, which was absolutely delicious. My main course was the bone in ribeye which I requested to have it cooked medium, which was grilled to perfection. I would be mistaken if I didn’t comment on the ambience in the dining room with the open hearth cooking stove , it really set the tone of a warm welcoming environment. All 5 senses were entertained. We capped our night with the bread pudding dessert which was absolutely delicious and reminded me of homemade apple pie! Thanks to the impeccable service of Louis, Tim the bartender in ash, and our server Aron thanks for the memorable night out!More

A tad pricey but good food. It’s named after the big log in the fireplace. A bit of a campfire smell. I recommend mashed potatoes. And the chocolate cake desert. It’s more than cake!
