This place is your typical hole in the wall, that has awesome burgers and sides. Would definitely recommend giving this place a try.

Absolutely amazing service! They were said to be understaffed but it did not show! Claine and his bartenders/servers took amazing care of my friends and I. First time we’ve gotten together in months and we have the best memories to show for it. Thank you...State Street Tap!More

Ate lunch at the State Street tap on recommendations from another local establishment. The bartender was great anybody that is a Tom Brady fan has to be good. The cook did a wonderful job took a little while to get it but it was worth...the wait. We had so much food we had to take extra with us to eat later. The fried mushrooms were excellent. Recommend stopping at the State Street tap and eating lunch support the localsMore

Loved this place, friendly greeting as we walked in and excellent service the whole time we were there. It was fun to see an employee do their job with enthusiasm and genuineness. Fun menu too. Really enjoyed the Baked Billy for a starter, then the...Bleu Bison and Smokey Joe, followed by the cast-iron cookie Sunday. The cranberry old fashion was exceptional as was the Tripejam Hard Cider. Stop here and enjoy! They recommended the Gravity Box Brewing Company right down the block, and even ran down the street to make sure it was open. Great beer and service!More

Mauston is the typical anonymous small (4,000) town along an interstate. My wife and I drive past/through hundreds of these towns every year. Last week we had to stop in Mauston and, after referring to the internet. decided to try State Street Tap for dinner....Excellent decision. In terms of ambience, it is a typical bar/grill. The two men working were outgoing and interacting with a couple of regulars; but came right over with menus and drink orders. Where State Street Tap stood out was the food. We started with a bar/grill staple: deep fried mushrooms. We are undecided if they were the best we've had or second best (there is a place in Missouri that is the other challenger). I had the Smokey Joe Burger and my wife had the Badger Burger. Large burgers made with fresh meat, cooked exactly as we asked (medium rare and medium, respectively) with fresh condiments. The french fries were very good as well. Seriously, I don't write many reviews and State Street Tap is five minutes south of the interstate and its cluster of hotels and eateries. But, this place is worth the minimal amount of effort and you will be rewarded with a really good meal for your trip.More

Stopped in for dinner before meeting up with friends. We sat at the bar and had great service. The burgers were GREAT. I had the Bison Blue and it was amazing. The place is small, but worth visiting.

Gourmet burgers, hand cut fries, real battered onion rings & cheese curds. Very neat and clean family friendly atmosphere serving best food and drink in Mauston. We will be back again next year when camping nearby. 5 stars not enough for this little bar with...BIG food!More

If I’m in Mauston and I’m hungry, I go to State Street Tap. They have a fantastic menu including salads, wraps, tacos, sandwiches, and pizza. My absolute favorite is their Seared Ahi Tacos which are better than some I have had at fine dining venues...at twice the price. They also have a nice selection of better-quality wines to pair with all of their great food! You will want to come back!More

We have dined at State Street Tap dozens of times over the last two-and-a-half years and we have tried virtually everything on the menu as well as many of the daily specials. I can say with all confidence that State Street Tap consistently serves up...the best fare in Mauston and Juneau County. The owner/chef pours his heart and soul into the dishes that he prepares and has developed a process to ensure that each meal is made with the intent to exceed customer expectations. The menu is varied and whether you are in the mood for appetizers, sandwiches, burgers, wraps, pizza, steaks, tacos, or the Friday fish fry, you will not leave disappointed. They say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and judging by the way other nearby establishments are changing up their menus to offer selections similar to his, tells me he’s doing it right. State Street Tap is one of those hole-in-the-wall places that is always a treasure to find! I rarely leave five-star reviews, but this one’s a no-brainer.More

We stopped here for lunch on a Monday. The place is very small and you have to park on the street. My hubby ordered the "Smokey Joe" burger w/o the crispy onions but it showed up with them anyway and had to go back. He...did enjoy it. I had "The Plain Jane" and upgraded to curds instead of fries. It showed up with fries and took a little time to provide the curds. My burger was nothing special. They gave me an entire order of fried curds due to the error. They were good but we've had better. The server was friendly and apologetic for the error. Note: the restrooms are tiny and for one person at a time. We won't go back.More

Eating out in Mauston can be pretty boring. This place has an interesting menu and good prices. The cheese curds and fries are better then average. Wings should have been cooked a few minutws more, to really be enjoyable. Sirloin sandwiche was delicious. Bring a...sweater though. They like their air conditioner.=)More

Brought a toddler here and were a little worried about how it would go. It went quite well. They had nice high chairs and the food was solid. We enjoyed the stop.

Met with some associates in Mauston and agreed to meet here for lunch. My initial thought when I pulled up was that it was a cool place right in downtown Mauston. Walked in and it was really dark and the a/c was cranked so high...that a female associate in our group needed to put another layer on. The waitress was friendly and attentive (and also the reason this is not a 1-star review). I ordered a tender melt sandwich and a side of onion rings. The food tasted great and we all seemed to enjoy our meal. Here is where it all goes downhill. 2 of us in our group started feeling sick around 6pm right as we were going to have dinner at our respective homes (on opposite sides of the state). We both spent the next 8 hours on and off of the porcelain. I have not felt this terrible in quite a while. I'm not sure if the food was under cooked or what happened there, but I don't plan on eating here again when I return to the area on business.More

My family and I eat here often. We have never been disappointed. Friday night fish fry, all the specials are delicious!
