For our last evening in Lake Geneva and our most expensive meal -- we had high hopes. The wonderful server also had to hostess. They were clearly short staffed. But the kitchen was, apparently, worse. My wife ordered the NY Strip ($57). The server told...us it came with brussel sprout leaves, which sounded very appealing. My wife ordered it medium rare. It came out 45+ minutes later well done (no pink even) and with green beans and mashed potatoes (which was the side dishes for filet; one reason she did not get it.) Didn't know they were out of brussel sprouts until it was served! (The kitchen did not tell the server; again, she was kind and empathetic.) My wife was hungry and ate it -- but did not enjoy it. The watermelon blueberry cold soup was incredibly good! The front porch does NOT mean outside (like we thought; trying to be covid safe). A (too) cozy space. But a nice view of the lake!More

The shrimp in the shrimp cocktail was mushy. Yuck. The waitress delivered our wine and an hour later we still had not received our main dish. We cancelled it. The charcuterie board was incomplete, and it would have taken molars stronger than mine to bite...through the toast. We asked for rolls, they were also knock on the pavement hard. Yuck. An hour + wasted of our time for no edible food, and now every other restaurant in the area is closed. Horrible experience.More

I went to Baker House with a couple other people recently and we were excited to go because one of the people in the group had been there years prior. We were having a great time looking at the decor inside, but when we tried...to get a table the experience starting going downhill. We were asked if we had a reservation and when we said we did not, we were met with hostility and told to go sit at the bar where the bartender moved us outside the restaurant onto the porch. This was while there was maybe three small groups in the entire restaurant. We did not feel welcome and almost as if we did not belong there. I will give our waitress the benefit of the doubt because it seemed as though she was running majority of the show at the restaurant and was probably very stressed out, thus the poor attitude. The tiramisu was very good, the bathrooms were clean, and the decorations were lovely, but it did not make up for the rest of our experience. Disappointed and would not recommend to anyone other than to walk by to see the architecture.More

Sad to say that brunch on 5/8/22 was a disappointment due to lack of staff training and management. The brunch price was increased to $65 for Mother’s Day. This information was not posted on their website, Facebook page, or at the entrance, causing diners to...question their bill. The regular Sunday brunch is $35. We arrived 20 minutes before our reservation time. No one was at the desk to greet and check in guests. There was no bartender. After we did check in, the hostess again left her post. She was apparently busing tables. The entrance became crowded with groups waiting to check in. The frazzled hostess had trouble finding reservations, and referred to us as “you two”, when told that our table was ready. A buffet was set up in a meeting room in the adjoining hotel, most likely to maximize seating in the house itself. We did not have complaints about the food but the buffet could have been kept cleaner (soiled tablecloths, serving spoons coated with food). The owners and managers need to learn how to properly run this establishment. We have attended Baker House events several times in the past, but doubt if we will return in the future.More

First time dining here, and for brunch. $35 for a wide spread of delicious eats, includes all you can drink mimosa's or champaign. Full spread of breakfast and lunch items, and desserts - something for everyone. Very good service.

Had Sunday brunch today and it was 75% leftovers from the night before. Here's a list of what were obviously leftovers that I can remember: linguine alfredo, farfale pasta, prime rib, vegetable medley, mashed potatoes, parmesan risotto, and salad greens. The sausage gravy for the...biscuits was made with alfredo sauce. Some of the little pastries were fresh enough to be fine, but some were probably sliced up full size desserts. Crusty leftovers. They also made up some bacon, scrambled eggs, and sausages and a guy making poached eggs and omelettes to order. The eggs Benedict I had was on a low-end cheap English muffin, but these other items were fine. The smoked salmon was good, but the tiny bagels for it were cheap.More

I have read about the wonderful and fun experience of the Baker House "Champagne Brunch" and had always wanted to go. Although now I realize, I hadn't read anything recently which I should have before I made reservations for our Anniversary. It was the most...awful and most expensive brunch we have ever been to. I realize that there were probably staffing issues like everywhere else these days, but the food, what there was of it, was just plain horrible. The selections were weird. It was ice cold. And some of it, we had no idea what it even was. I heard complaints from all around us. Needless to say, I am glad our friends didn't want to make the drive. I would have been embarrassed for them to have spent the time and money for such a bad experience. We won't be back!More

We had expected an up-market dining experience, which is what we’d experienced here several years ago. However, unfortunately that was not the case, although the prices were still very up-market. The service was awful - the waitress was on her own, and served as hostess,...busboy and waitress. There was a lot of waiting, and she didn’t ask at what temperature we wanted the steak or the duck. Overall, the food was really poor. The steak & duck were OK, but there was only one choice of potato, and no choice of vegetable - it was a mush of overboiled broccoli and cauliflower. The decor was dirty and the overall experience was hugely disappointing and way overpriced.More

Some recent reviews made me nervous so I called ahead to make sure the complaints were mostly because of lack of staff like most restaurants these days. I was told that was a fact and if we were patient there was plenty of food and...drinks for all and the food would be superb. Well she was right about everything. Migall took care of us and more. We ate in a turret overlooking the lake. We had our hats and she took numerous pics of our table. She even climbed through the window to the porch to get a better picture of us. This was a reunion of 5 women celebrating 50 years of friendship. Migall made our celebratory brunch so memorable. We will be back!More

I had such high hopes for this place, and unfortunately it turned out to be an utter disappointment. The place itself is fantastic and the view is gorgeous. The cuisine…. Horrific. As I walked it and was set at a beautiful table overlooking the lake...I was told they are out of bread, soup, romaine , collard greens, crab cakes and skewers . My $51 filet mignon was cooked well buy with burnt Brussel sprouts that were impossible to chew, and reheated potatoes from the night before. The ONLY good dish was a side of truffle fries, fresh and crispy just like I expected the whole meal to be. To top it all off, this fine dining place does not offer any coffee drinks like espresso or cappuccino , only the diner type regular or decaf coffee. Ok- now to desert, two lousy options- lemon cake and a cheesecake??!!! The meal I was so looking forward to turned out to be such a disappointment. I feel bad for all the folks that come here for the view , however I am not sure it is worth paying $100+ for a poor meal with a view, I know I never will.More

After the long pandemic we wanted to go out for a good brunch with a nice view of Lake Geneva. I researched the area and found Baker House, which seemed like a high end restaurant, with a broad brunch menu, and pictures of Eggs Benedict...and an Egg Station where a chef would prepare eggs and omelets to order. There was a big difference between the advertising and the reality. While Baker House premises were interesting from the Victorian period, the place was dirty and in need of cleaning. After we sat down, the very good server brought us water and a glass of sparkling wine. There was no Bloody Mary barrel as was shown in the on-line pictures. Brunch went downhill from there. The advertised Egg Station with the Eggs Benedict and custom made omelets did not exist, and only scrambled eggs were available in a warming tray. I started with salad, and when I went back for the main course, there were no eggs, no biscuits, no gravy for the biscuits, no bacon, and the sausages were not the least bit browned on a grill or in a skillet. Most of the other food looked like it had been sitting out a long time, so my wife only had a small bowl of yoghurt and was afraid to try anything else. We subsequently learned that there are new owners of Baker House, and apparently the chef recently quit, as have others from the staff. We do not recommend Baker House, and will never come back again. Note: They have a dinner menu available, but I cannot imagine how they would be able to provide its listings in a quality manner at this time.More

This restaurant is highly rated. I can’t imagine why. The food we had was frankly horrible. The fish and salad were fine but the bread, potatoes, and vegetables were old, stale, and tasted terrible. To top it off, the meal for two was 110 before...tip. We each had small house salads, shared an entree and dessert, and had one drink each. DON’T GO HERE. YOU WILL REGRET IT.More

I took my wife here for our anniversary. The ambiance of the hotel/restaurant was wonderful. We were looking to a quiet and romantic dinner overlooking Lake Geneva. Alas, the service was abysmal. It took a while for our server to show up to our table...after we were seated. In fact, we had time to go out and take some pictures before she made an appearance. She introduced herself and explained that it was her first day on the job. We were prepared to cut her some slack. She took our drink (Robert Baker) and appetizer order (Seafood Parfait, Bacon Wrapped Scallop). The pitcher of water she had with her was left on our table. However, we never received any water glasses. A couple of other servers checked on us, and we finally asked one of them to get us water. We watched our server be attentive to two other tables while we patiently waited for our appetizers. One of the tables was on the other side of the window from where we were seated which made it easy for her to check on our table without even approaching our table. There was no excuse for the level of service she gave us. Finally, my wife went to the host station to complain. Jordan, the person who was "front of house" for the day saw my wife and asked her what was going on. My wife explained the situation and threatened to leave. Jordan offered to comp our appetizers which was appreciated. A while later Jordan came to tell us that the appetizers had not been ordered, that the scallops were no longer available, and we were getting a new server, Amos. I had to switch to a Caesar Salad. When she brought the salad, she told us that our orders had not been placed. She promised to rush it. We order (Salmon and Fettuccine, Breast of Duck). The food was very good which was the only saving grace of the experience. It was unfortunate that it took two servers to try to make things right. By the way, our table was never cleared any of our dirty dishes and our menus sat there throughout the meal.More

The service in the restaurant didn't fit the high price tag. With a 6:45 reservation, they already were out of both fish dishes AND ran out of BUTTER! On the other hand, the live entertainment both inside and on the patio was outstanding. Would only...return for the entertainment.More
