Excellent fresh entrees, we had a vegan chili, Cuban sandwich, MAC with grilled chicken. We loved the food so much returned and tried their Blt with avocado and taco salad. Such a variety of delicious food choices and I enjoyed a frothy cappuccino too.

My son and I had a late breakfast her for the first time today. It was very busy but we only had to wait about 5 min. The staff was friendly and cheerful. The food was fantastic! It was real food, made from scratch and...cooked perfectly. Definitely a new favorite!More

The food here is good, and my vegan friend absolutely loved it. But the service was terrible. The waiter/ess came once to take the order and once to deliver the food. The bill was simply dropped on the table with no comment. And that was...it. So this is not on the "gotta return" list at all. Plenty of other places to eat where they are happy to see my wallet.More

Classic American cuisine with a touch of granola lifestyle. Had the biscuits and gravy for breakfast and it was outstanding! Well priced, speedy and polite staff. Definitely a must visit.

Northside La Crosse locals know about it, and the word is spreading--but slowly, which means you can still get in there for some amazing meals with authentic Southern edges, a simple and friendly down-home service ice by really nice, warm people, very affordably prices, and...variety not usually found in smaller Up-North smaller cities. I mean, really--warm, sugar-coated, fresh beignets with a good cup of coffee--although a chickory cup of jo would be a great addition. And the luncheon and breakfast bowls (the Southern Bowl, the Breakfast Grain Bowl) and egg choices, just delicious. Although not a big grits fan, at the Uptowne, I eat them now and esther. And when the BBQ is on, my my, do not miss the place. You want glitz and fancy--not here 'cause the energy goes into the menu. But it's neat, clean, cozy and friendly. Now, you reading this, don't ya'll trot down: the accommodations are a little tight so leave us some room. But do treat yourself at the Uptowne Cafe and Bakery on Caledonia Street North La Crosse. You'll be back!More

What a great experience! We had looked up breakfast spots in LaCrosse while heading through on a trip. Incredible menu filled with a large of southern inspired food, making it hard to pick just one item. We had the Southern Bowl (brisket, cheesy.grits, egg and...more) and Sweet Potato Hash, with a side of beignets. All the food was absolutely fabulous! Really special food.More

Stopped in here for breakfast on a lazy Saturday morning. Was surprised at how busy it was - but you can get a table if you're not in a large group. The service was friendly and efficient. Enjoyed our eggs but had to substitute the...potatoes for grits. Even the chicken and waffles was fabulous. My hard-to-fill son was satisfied with his portion of chicken with waffles and greatly enjoyed the spicy chicken. Everyone found something they liked on the menu and left satisfied.More

This place has a chef who has gotten attention from the James Beard organization. Fabulous southern dishes done right: chicken and waffles, beignets, grits, cornbread, sweet potato hash browns, etc. Also some extremely well conceived grain bowls and delicious egg dishes. It’s the real deal...- kind of a tiny diner but totally worth the wait. Fabulous for breakfast, brunch or lunch.More

Stopped for breakfast on a late Saturday morning. Place was crazy busy with a 20 minute wait. Eclectic menu, but I was looking for a normal eggs and bacon breakfast. Menu substitutions are not welcome. I probably would not come back.

Service was attentive and quick. Brussels Bowl was excellent (white rice, black beans, sweet potato, fried Brussels sprouts), tahini lime viniagrette. Had option to order with added protein (e.g. shrimp, chicken, or seitan), but didn't need it and greatly enjoyed this dish. Coffee good, too.
