Independently owned and operated for over 25 years, "The Grill" has served quality food to discerning customers who enjoy fresh approaches to classic American Cuisine. From fresh seafood, tender marinated chicken and fall-off-the-bone barbecued ribs, to a burger with more toppings than you can fit in your mouth - freshness and quality always prevail. Just three friends "meeting in the middle" for lunch and conversation. Place was hoping, but we were seated promptly and our server was excellent - very accommodating.
Portions were good and food flavorful. Wide range on the menu, but for some reason all the of us went with an entrée salad. All off us left filled.
Server kept our glasses filled and made sure we weren't hurried.
The have both a dinning room and bar area (sports bar vibe).
This will be our Goto for luncheons in the future.

The steak here is excellent, easily the best in town and the fish fry here is also quite terrific. The staff are always attentive without being obtrusive. Unlike some pricier restaurants in the area, the food here is actually worth the money.

During an overnight stay in Janesville, we decided to order out using their curbside pick-up option. We placed our order over the phone and entire process was flawless. Our food was ready at the time we were told be there & was still piping hot by the time we returned to our nearby hotel. I had the Wisconsin Fish Fry & my wife had the Lake Perch dinner. Both meals were excellent! We’ll be back the next time we’re in the area!

Traveling through Janesville and spending the night, we called in a pick up order based on numerous stellar reviews. We’ve picked up quite a few orders over the past couple of months from different restaurants and I’ve been surprised at the quality and freshness of the food when I got home. Not the case here. I had the fish fry. It came with about 2 pounds of cold French fries and cole slaw that tasted like it came out of the grocery store. The fish was greasy. My wife got the meatloaf. It was very sweet and the meat was over worked.
The food might be better when served fresh in the restaurant (not the meatloaf, a real disappointment) but nothing held up when I got it back to the hotel.
Ps. Don’t ever order the meatloaf.

The bar staff was very attentive and congenial. Reservations are not accepted. There is outdoor seating. For those that can not do stairs, maybe 2 tables available on lower landing, but one can eat at the bar. Restrooms nice, clean and well stocked. Our waitress was not exactly friendly. Appetizers were delivered promptly but dinner took a little longer than expected. Portion size more that enough. On the evening we visited the credit card/debit card machine was having issues. We waited almost 45 minutes and finally decided we actually had enough cash to pay our bill. We would have greatly appreciated some communication from the manager or the hostess on the situation, but none came. The dining room area was smaller than we expected. Menu has a variety and there is a gluten free menu available. Our party had the gluten free ship tacos which were fresh and received a good review, 3 prime ribs all fine, a meatloaf which was a large portion, but lacked on flavor, a burger with sweet potato fries - burger was good, sweet potato fries tasted good but were cold. We tried it for dinner. May stop in for drinks one time in the future, but we won't go out of our way.

We stopped here for dinner since everywhere else was pretty packed. I read the reviews and figured sure why not. We order an appetizer and then about 5 minutes later we ordered our dinner. Our app came out right away but our dinners followed it literally 10 minutes after that. I ordered a blackened chicken, there's no way it was cooked long enough. I ate a few pieces till I came to a part that was clearly borderline raw. I did not complain, just dumped the chicken to the side. We finished our dinner and went back to finishing our appetizer..and our dishes sat at our table. Service wasn't terrible but I think some of the people in there need a lesson on courtesy.

Whether you choose the baked or battered pan fry bluegills or broiled salmon with orange butter..you can't make a bad choice. A nice bar and grill with excellent food and a relaxed atmosphere. Service is always pleasant and prompt!

We needed a good place for lunch in Janesville and found it. Food was great, generous portions and reasonable prices. My husband had the hamburger and said it tasted like “someone actually made the burger, not just fried up something frozen.” I had the grilled burrito - excellent. Came with a “sweet corn cake” and I didn’t know what to expect. It was a delicious corn fritter, a great accompaniment to the burrito. We shared the onion straws. They would have gone well with a cold beer, but we were driving. If we go back to Janesville, we will certainly return.

We were told a 10-15 minute wait for a booth and said we’d be seated at the bar. Ordered a drink and then waited and waited. Others were seated before us and when we questioned why were told they were here before us. Did they hide in the bathroom waiting for a table because they definitely weren’t waiting in line or the bar. We finished our drink and left for dinner elsewhere. The bartender was great, the drink was good but the hostess needs to learn her job. An hour wait is not 10 minutes. Keep track of who is waiting, and don’t make excuses. Offer a table or patio seating or at least an honest explanation.

It was busy when we drove up, good sign. We got the small onion ring haystack. It was huge!!! The two of us could not eat but about half of it. Don't order the whole size unless you have 6 or more people. I got the avocado toast, subed the eggs for hash browns. I got two big slices of toast and a big order of hashbrowns. It was very good. Husband, not vegan, got a burger it was big. He said it was good.

I’ve been here a handful of times and can’t ever remember being disappointed. I tried the grilled burrito tonight and it was delicious. I loved the salsa verde, black beans, and sweet corn bread that came with it. Portion was large - I couldn’t finish it all and service was great.

We have just moved to Janesville and had a gift card to the Milwaukee Grill. Since the reviews and word is that it is the BEST in town. I sure hope not. It was crowded so we finally got a seat in a booth by the bar. Service was really slow, and even worse, the beer was warm. I ordered the Prime Rib which was the special of the day. I should have sent it back...I couldn't cut the meat with my knife or my husbands. Totally inedible. So disappointed! Will not be going back, ever.

Excellent food, and good service in a casual setting. The menu offers a good variety of choices for everyone. Excellent salads, broasted chicken, steaks, wraps, soups, and brunch items for the weekend. The place is busy, and not unusual the need to put your name on a wait list. There is a large bar area for you to enjoy a cocktail while you're waiting for your table.

What a place. This local independent restaurant gives a great bar or food experience whether you just have a drink or food at the bar or sit and eat in the main cosy part of the restaurant.
Jess my server was really attentive and friendly - makes a difference. Well done.
Great selection of drinks, food and daily specials and vegetables.
Fantastic place and I went back 3 times !

This was a great find on our vacation. Kelsey was our server and she was very help with recommending great dishes. The penne and Meatloaf were very good. The service was very efficient and the food came out very quickly. Would greatly recommend to anyone in the area.
