We went to celebrate Valentine’s Day. We enjoyed the ambiance and the absolutely excellent service! We both had filet mignon, which was done perfectly. We also each had a tasty crock of French onion soup. Salad, veggies and side order of mushrooms were generous and...enjoyable. I had a large loaded baked potato, too. We were hungry and left so full, we took dessert to go. In addition to a wonderful experience in all regards, we truly appreciate that Palmer’s very generously supports great causes, like the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and UW-Madison Lung Transplant Research. Loved that the Bark River runs right next to the restaurant and that you can eat in the covered and heated section to enjoy the river.More

First of all, we loved our server Sandy. She was the best. Secondly, we know that it’s holiday time and restaurants are busy. We took our kids and their spouses out to Palmer’s for our traditional holiday dinner. With our bar bill and tip we...spent well over $700. No complaints about our meal but we felt extremely rushed and management was somewhat rude about it. I know it’s the holidays and restaurants are busy and they like to accommodate as many reservations as possible. But on the other hand the management needs to understand that some of these are special family holiday dinners and diners are spending a lot in their establishment and some appreciation and understanding needs to be shown. Due to traffic situation my son and daughter in law were 15 min late and immediately when they were seated we heard about how our table will be needed at a particular time and they didn’t let up after that. We took a normal amount of time to order and eat. We didn’t have control over when our dinners came out of the kitchen and yet the manager continued to walk by our table and stare and give the ‘evil eye’ as our time ‘was up’!! We felt guilty ordering dessert. It was not our usual fun relaxing holiday dinner out! I love the Palmer Steakhouse food but we’ve decided we will not be coming back for any special family dinners soon!More

Fantastic food, friendly and helpful staff, and a classy upscale supper club vibe. We love this place and will continue to visit as long as we live in the area! The owners are beloved staples of the community and the business is VERY involved in...charitable giving, which makes it even easier to spend my money there. Cheers guys!More

I checked out Palmers based on the recommendations of some colleagues and it was absolutely fantastic! We arrived 15 min before our reservation time because we wanted to have a cocktail before dinner. Promptly at 530p the hostess let us know our table was ready...and escorted us to the dining room. I love a place that runs on time ( and they were extremely busy for a Monday!) Once at the table our server, Rob, greeted us and gave us the run down on the specials. Dry aged steaks, Wagyu, and a Tomahawk. This place had it all, and much much cheaper than comparables in Chicago! I ordered the special dry aged Porterhouse and my colleague ordered the 12oz filet Mignon. Both steaks were cooked to our exact liking and we both agreed they were among the best we ever had. To accompany dinner we ordered their $99 liter of Caymus. Apparently this is a Monday only special. You’ve got to be kidding me - I see that bottle more in the grocery store!! As expected the wine was fantastic. After dinner we went back to the bar for a cocktail and the manager, Nick, stopped by to chat and see how everything was. He was very friendly and professional and you could tell he truly cared about our experience at Palmers. Nick explained Palmers has their own Blantons barrel and we each got a flight of the bourbon. Next time in time for business I will for sure be back!More

I made a reservation for the "Enclosed Riverview Terrace". When we arrived, our party of 2 was seated at a table for 4 next to an open door facing the street. There was a lot of street noise and a breeze coming through the door....I asked if the door could be closed or if we could have a different table, the young woman who seated us said she would check and never came back. Our server came to the table and I asked her if we could move or if the door could be closed, she said she would check. Our server then came back and said Nick, the manager would be over to talk to us. Nick did come to the table and was very rude. He said he could not close the door as it would become stuffy. He did end up closing the door and rudely said "your welcome". Not a great way to start our dining experience. My husband ordered his steak Medium rare, it was served medium. I had Walleye which was good but not great. Salad was good, but a small half filled container of dressing was not enough for the salad. Leftover food was packaged to go. We were given one container with my Walleye touching my husbands steak. Disgusting! While our server was very good, because of Nick's rude attitude and the over cooked steak, we will not be back. In addition we heard an employee say when the Terrace is open in the summer they spray for bugs and bees before the restaurant opens. I would be leery of eating right after they have used insecticides.More

The Host was very unprofessional, upon arriving told us to order a drink at the bar, 3 minutes later while our drinks were being made, he wanted to rush us to our table, when we asked to wait for our drinks and give us a...few minuets he replied he had to consider the reservations following us basically telling us we aren't as important as the next table and to hurry up. We were rushed to our table and consistently asked for our order. Food was delivered quickly and many times asked if we were finished. The most unprofessional, rushed dinner we have had at any level. What was at one time a Great local value restaurant and a fantastic dinning experience has now fallen to the generic high volume push em through average restaurant. At one time we recommended this to everyone we knew, will never recommend again.More

On 8/18/22 my party of 3 had dinner at Palmers. Table 42B, check #38, my waiter waiter was Josh. One of my parties ordered the duck, which she said was very good. My wife ordered the Walleye which was without seasoning and tasteless. I ordered...the Lamb Chops which I could barely cut due to massive gristle, in each chop. I asked Josh to speak with the manager. He observed my uneaten chops. I expected that he would return and offer me a different entre. Instead, he returned and presented the bill without any adjustments. And said that there was nothing he could do. This was extremely poor customer service and will cause me NEVER to return.More

The food was decent, and although the server was pleasant and efficient we were rushed through our meal, finishing in far less than the 90 minute time limit the restaurant imposes on its patrons. The room was small and noisy and too dark (not “romantically”...so) to read the menu which was in small print to begin with. My biggest peeve, however, was the surcharge of 3.5% of the entire bill (including tax and tip) for the privilege of using a credit card. This occurred without any advance notice, and I found it infuriating. I am usually a pretty liberal tipper, and as the server was most pleasant I added 25% to the entire bill (without noticing the surcharge, however…). I understand the establishment must pay a fee for credit card transactions but I see that as part of the price of doing business and not to be borne by the customer. If nothing else their markup on anything alcoholic should more than cover it, but even if they operate on a slimmer profit margin than realized, I wonder how many patrons would be lost if credit cards weren’t accepted. For better or worse, credit cards boost patronage (how many would stay home if they didn’t have a credit card?) and to be charged a fee for a service that only supports business borders on extortion in my opinion. It’s not the money in this case, it’s the principle! The entire experience, in celebration of our 55th wedding anniversary was, shall we say, less than memorable…More

Went for dinner with family on Friday evening. Here’s a short synopsis of a terrible dinner…..steaks tough and tasteless, service mediocre at best, wine and liquor prices outrageous. I don’t mind paying a fair or even a little higher price for good food and service,...but this place has neither. Charged $33.00 for an average angles envy (entire bottle is $47.00) on the rocks, wine prices are triple retail, or higher. The steaks were not good at all. Not cooked properly, tough and tasteless….many better choices for an upscale dinner. STAY AWAY!More
