We are serving up Thai & Laotian street eats like skewers, noodles, rice dishes, noodle soups, and grilled meats reminiscent of the markets in Thailand and Laos. We also have some Chinese entrees on the menu as a homage to the classics along with new Asian-American fusion ideas.

Brought friends to Sweet Basil to experience this amazing and surprising food, and it was better the second time around. I was amazed that this modest strip mall store front, where you order at a counter, can have the same culinary flavor of the Michelin starred restaurants we dined at in Bangkok. It literally has me shaking my head. I don't understand, but you must try Sweet Basil for yourself. We drive down from Walker's Point, and it's maybe 15 minutes, well worth the journey. If this place was downtown, or in Seattle or San Francisco, the lines would extend around the corner or on to the next block.

Wow! Thank you for your extremely generous review. Your high remarks have humbled us. Many of our recipes are authentic Thai and Laotian dishes developed by our family, to have these recipes compared to Michelin Starred restaurants of Bangkok is truly stunning. Thank you for making the trip out here- twice even!

Came here last night around 5pm, and the place was bumping! We heard many good things about this place and decided to give it a try. Let me tell you, the 40-minute wait was well worth it! The spot itself is very tiny, so we weren't expecting to get a table, but luckily a four-top opened up just as we were getting our food. People kept picking up take-out and placing in house orders. So happy their business is doing well! The food was amazing. Me and my group got a smorgasbord. We had pad thai, pad lao (the special), crab rangoons, chicken fried rice, jasmine rice, beef teriyaki, fried tofu skewers, spring rolls, egg rolls, panang curry, sweet mango sticky rice, and caramel apple egg rolls. WOW! We loved it all. The taste was amazing, fresh and flavorful. We were so pleased by the service, as well. The staff hustled to turn tables and did it all with a smile on their face even though it was unbelievably busy. Even though we tried a lot of the menu, there is still more we want (it all sounds good!). We will most definitely be back! If you are in a rush, I suggest placing an order online!

Hi. I have been to this restaurant twice now. The food is amazing! It is one of the best Asian restaurants we have been to. The prices are reasonable. The serving sizes are good. The taste is fantastic.
They have one of the best noodles we have ever had. The last time I was there I asked, and they told me they make all the noodles by hand.
I do wish they were able to move to a bigger location and have longer hours. But overall this is a wonderful restaurant.

It truly makes all of the hard work that we put into the food worth it. We're so happy you enjoyed your noodles and experience!
We also thank you for your feedback regarding our location and hours. We used to have longer hours but unfortunately, our lunch hours were very slow. In the future, we may look at adding them back but will have to ensure we have the staffing needed to do that! As far as location size, we are also slowly trying to grow financially to be able to afford a secondary space or larger space. Maybe in a few years, we will be able to make that happen but we will keep both items in mind! Thank you again for your candor with care and lovely review! Great food and great service! We ate inside the restaurant and they greeted us at the door. We got a table and two menus and we're instructed to go to the counter to order. The food was so good and the people are very pleasant. Super clean, small seating area with about 10 small tables. A separate waiting area for people taking their orders to go. We just discovered this restaurant and will definitely be back

First, a little history: Sweet Basil MKE is the newest incarnation of Asian Bistro, a Janesville WI restaurant that unfortunately went out of its space apparently because of a rent-hike situation. Asian Bistro was always the best place. Great food, good location, great table service, great prices, great value, a cozy atmosphere. They were always busy when we went and the experience was great.
These restaurants are not apples to apples, unfortunately, and we'll likely never get Asian Bistro back. Although Asian Bistro is gone, we're very happy that Sweet Basil MKE is still serving up some of the dishes we love!!
Sweet Basil MKE is a light, bright atmosphere. All of their food is excellent! This time, we had the Pad Thai and Panang Curry, as well as the Thai Fried Bananas with Thai iced tea and a boba smoothie. Pricing is on par with other Thai/fusion restaurants. Unfortunately right now there is no genuine table service, as the seating area only holds 20 when packed, and the space is very cozy. It would be nice to see them expand again because fast food environment plus table service pricing isn't the best combination. You order and pay at the counter, which is getting more and more common these days. I understand the troubles with getting labor today, but I miss the dining experience I used to get. Even if there was no genuine table service, we were still checked on several times.
The other thing we noticed was that the menus have no prices on them. Almost like, if you have to ask, you can't afford it - except that they're still affordable, if on the high end of affordable. I will say, the portions are very generous (2 meals in one, really) and the value for the money is definitely still there. I've never left feeling unsatisfied, less than full, or disappointed.
Also, and this is a big factor for me with all restaurants - the restrooms were clean and well-kept.
Highly recommend to anyone. Just be prepared for cozy and a little DIY. Glad to see the legacy of Asian Bistro continuing today!!!

Wow! Our family is blown away by your review. Thank you for sharing your experiences, we loved taking the trip down memory lane with you to Asian Bistro! We miss it and our Janesville community so much! But it's always wonderful to see friends and our loyal customers, whom we've created such a strong bond with, make the trip to visit our new place at Sweet Basil MKE.
We had an entirely different plan when we designed Sweet Basil and it was derailed by "2020" - so we've adapted and faced the challenges head on as best as we could! Even today, we are continuously finding ways to improve our operations in order to provide friendly service, food made scratch, and a welcoming atmosphere. We want everyone to feel as if you're a friend or family member dining with us in our home! We'll greet you, cook up a fantastic meal, while you take a seat and help yourself to whatever you'd like. Our staff does a great job of taking the quick-casual approach up a notch by checking in on our guests frequently, making sure you're having a great time. We're so happy to hear you take note of this level of service. We know it IS different from Asian Bistro, but we didn't want to dishonor the memory of it by writing over it. We're proud of how we've adapted and created a new place with a story of its own and we hope to continue to share it with you!
We're thrilled you enjoyed your Panang Curry, Pad Thai, and Fried Bananas! Those are some of our most popular dishes and some personal favorites of our family as well. You have great taste and an eye for detail!! We thank you for your kind words about our food, space, service and portion sizes! Our family appreciates your support and we hope to see you back again.
