Excellant place to eat. We happen to go at a slow time of year in between summer and snowmobiling so not a large crowd but I think the larger crowd atmosphere would make all that much better. Crusted apple glazed pork loin was fabulous and not dry.

Good but expected more from the ads. We went on a Sunday night and just missed the live music. They have a nice outdoor patio for both listening and dining. We ate inside. Hard to imagine very many people being here at tone time as it is somewhat small (quaint). Quiet atmosphere but music from the speakers could be a... More

We had 2 dinners at the Rookery while we were at our cabin over the Labor Day weekend and throughly enjoyed both. Their salads were fresh and the blue gill appetizer was a very creative way to get some fresh fish with an Asian flair. If you're looking for something different than the usual up north pub grub this is... More

Beautiful, cozy yet elegant, gem in the woods! Sunday outdoor music and grilling were a delight. Friendly, knowledgeable staff. The smoked trout grilled cheese had a wonderful mix of flavors and was paired with yummy colorful sides~mouth watering goodness!

No wait time, but the service and food was poor. Was given wrong drink, then wrong wine. Asked for rare steak, but was overcooked and burned, returned to kitchen came back almost raw, but edible. Super salty food. Potatoes were really overcooked. Scallops, 6 for $23 were tasty very tiny in size. Husband's fish was really dry, salty and overcooked.... More

I usually do not post super negative reviews however I feel I need to warn people that this place is NOT what you expect. The menu sounds wonderful; duck dishes, bison burgers and filets...sounds great, right? Well, it is not. Beware, do not waste your time. In remote locations like Cable, Wisconsin, one must look at the "review dates" on... More

Friday Fish un-fry (Ono) was fabulous. Great outdoor stage area with excellent regional entertainment on Friday and Sunday afternoon. My wife and I have gone several times and we recommend the Rookery.

By the reviews I was so excited to come to this restaurant. Now I wish I could erase the memory from my mind. First off the service is terrible, the server smelled like she had a cigarette going in the kitchen and she would go take a few puffs just before she would come me to your table, breathing cigarette... The Rookery is so out of place in the Woods it is almost a mirage. Great wait staff. Excellent and friendly bar, outside seating when the weather allows, live music Sundays, wine specials, excellent food and specials. Plus a wonderful Lab who greets you at the door. Bill's okay, too. Best food in the area for many miles. The B... More

Five-Time Winner & Member of TripAdvisor's Certificate of Excellence Hall of Fame, Rookery Pub Fine Dining offers the most flavorful and creative cuisine in the Wisconsin Northwoods. The Rookery's ever-changing menu features weekly fresh fish specials, beef & bison steak, specialty salads, housemade soups, and other creative dishes incorporating fresh seasonal ingredients from local producers. Including some of the best vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options you'll find anywhere. Our full bar offers a great selection of regional microbrews, premium liquor, and more than three dozen fine wines. We believe you'll find our cuisine to be second to none in the Cable/Hayward vicinity. We're the only restaurant in the area named to TripAdvisor's Hall of Fame as a Five-Time Certificate of Excellence winner, and also the only one to be AAA Three Diamond Approved. Actually many of our guests from much larger communities with dozens of great restaurants tell us we're their favorite anywhere. But it's not just exceptional food that has earned the Rookery a reputation as one of the most distinctive restaurants in northern Wisconsin. The stunning oversized nature photography prints on canvas that grace the walls of the restaurant lend a unique aura of beauty and serenity to your dining experience. And after a delectable meal why worry about driving somewhere else to spend the night? Instead feel free to polish off that wonderful bottle of wine or enjoy an after dinner libation. Knowing you can simply walk upstairs to spend the night in one of the finest guest rooms in the area. The Rookery and Cable Nature Lodge are located just seven miles east of Cable, on County Hwy M in the heart of the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest.
