Awesome food and service. Appetizers and meal options are plentiful and varied. We have enjoyed the Char for years

Spectacular in every way, the fine dining, the scenery outside overlooking a beautiful pond, the food was outrageous and the service and people were delightful and friendly. I would recommend this restaurant in a heartbeat.

Great atmosphere and although pricey we had great meals. Our server was terrific, she knew every item on the menu. Crabmeat stuffed flounder was fresh and beautifully prepared, the Fried Oysters were lightly battered and fresh. Big menu to choose from, a romantic bar, and...a large pond makes a nice view when you dine. We were there last year as well, and will probably return next year. Rather than write about the restaurant being overpriced, just go elsewhere. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience.More

When in Beckley, WV look no further than The Char for your fine dining experience. While dining ask for Theresa or Donna because they will make you feel right at home. The Char offers an amazing setting against a nice pond and wilderness. With plenty...of windows you feel like you’re at a cozy retreat as you enjoy delicious food. My experience has been with dinner both with business meetings and personally. I highly recommend a variety of dishes from the steak to crab cakes to salads to tiramisu. As you travel southbound on the WV Turnpike make a detour to this fine establishment!More

It was my first time there. The atmosphere was nice and the service is excellent. In my opinion the food was average and way overpriced. We had an appetizer. I had a 16oz. bone in Ribeye with a soft drink and a dessert. My wife...and daughter split the surf and turf which included a lobster tail and 6oz. Fillet. Both had a salad. My wife had a glass of wine and my daughter had a soft drink. Both had dessert. My steak was average. I've had better at some of the chain restaurants. The lobster tail was a little over cooked. My daughters steak was average. All the desserts were average. The price however was not average. $203.00. On the menu it just says "Market price" beside most of the entrées. You don't know the cost until you pay the bill. I knew it was an expensive place before we went but I wasn't expecting $200 for 3 people, 2 of which split a meal.More

We had a very nice relaxing meal at this restaurant. We found it to be very well. Staffed, water glasses were constantly being refilled and used plates and utensils removed quickly. My husband had the pork chop and I had the beef shish kebab, which...were both very good. We each had the house salad with a delicious house, vinaigrette, salad dressing on it. The turtle pie for dessert was excellent. They also had a very extensive wine listMore

We returned to this lovely restaurant to celebrate a birthday and thoroughly enjoyed our evening! We had a small and large filet mignon which were accompanied by a delicious house salad, baked potato, and garlic bread plus a side order of sautéed mushrooms. The steaks...were cooked to perfection and the entire meal was delicious as well as reasonably priced. Our server, Kristine, could not have been more attentive; she has worked there for many years. We are already looking for an opportunity to come back again!More

I called for a reservation but was told they didn't give reservation for party of 2 , just to come in. We arrived at 5:30 and were told there would be a 30 minute wait. We actually waited for about 15 minutes but had comfortable...benchs to sit on. The waitress was friendly and informative and brought our drinks quickly. About 10 minutes later she took our order appetizers, I ordered the shrimp chowder which was very good. I could have made a meal with 2 more bowls . My wife ordered steak bites which were marinated and floured then fried, neither of us cared for it. I had stuffed brascoili which was 35$ for a 5 ounce piece of cold beef with a tiny bit of cheese and breadcrumbs . WONT do that again, very bland and small portion!! My wife had chicken shiskabab and loved it. The salad was average.More

First of all, it was tough traveling and trying to find a nice restaurant in West Virginia and no offense to the state. We stayed at a near by hotel and the Char was recommended. My husband and I are foodies and love to eat...out, so I think we are a bit picky, and fairly good critics. We were very happy with our entrees. We also had a window seat overlooking the pond. The decor is very 70's, but kind of cool. Treat yourself to a nice experience. Lastly, I want to thank the owner for meeting us at the restaurant when it was closed to recover my husbands wallet that he left behind. She was amazing! Many thanks!!!More

Driving into the place is nice, a private drive, small lake, fountain, valet parking, it all gives you the feeling you're about to have a great culinary experience. However, as soon as we stepped out of the car, the "Clang, Clang, Clang" of an air...conditioner on the blink could be loudly heard piercing the calm serenity of the surrounding beauty. Get it fixed, folks. The interior needs updating. Badly. I imagined a 70's swinger club as I strolled to our table. The wait staff cut me off mid-order to be appalled at something her colleague was doing. Literally, she just turned away in my mid-sentence and ignored me, then turned back a while later and said, "I'm sorry, what did you say?" The menu online showed pricing around $20.95 for a 14oz Ribeye and $28.95 for a "King Size Filet" (8oz). 80% of the menu when as we sat reading it said, "MARKET PRICE". But since I had already read the menu online, I wasn't expecting what we saw when the bill came -- $55.00 for the 14oz Ribeye and slightly more for the 8oz Filet. I've been all over the world and eaten hundreds of Ribeyes and Filets. The Filet cut was just full of sinews and the Ribeye was so sad I literally felt worse for it than the hummingbird that flew into the window and died in front of us as we sat waiting for our meal to arrive. The crabmeat appetizer looked like they opened a can and dumped some lumps of crabmeat on some old lettuce they had sitting around, and tasted like soap. The salad that came with the entre had brown edges on the lettuce and I've had a better looking/tasting salad when the quilting club chopped up a head of Iceberg at the ex-wife's quilting club. No way on God's lush green Earth was this meal worth $120 before tip. No wine or other alcohol. If I had to pay again and the bill came for $60 I would have felt a twinge of usury. But the eye-popping $120? BEWARE OF MARKET PRICING and ask. Don't trust Trip Advisor's display of menu. In fact, skip this restaurant altogether. You'll get a far better meal at the Outback, Texas Roadhouse or a better steak at the local coffee shop.More

This "highly rated" restaurant was highly disappointing.. 6 oz fillet was $35 and appeared to be microwaved..no juice and no "char".. Boneless pork chop was very dry with no moisture..
