Great food. Busy. We visited on a Wednesday. To me if a place is busy it’s a good sign. Can sit outside or inside by the river. Also saw families. Relaxed environment. Inside a little loud and small quarters.

Great burgers with good beer. The stone mustard that came with the hot pretzel was by far my favorite thing. We sat outside, which was hot but sitting next to the river was worth it.
While staying at Winthrop, we visited Old Schoolhouse Brewery as on-line reviews for this restaurant was not bad. We ordered fish & chips to go. After about 40 minutes waiting, we finally got our food. When we were back to our lodging and opened the...box, we were shocked to find that all the fish was blackened. They were so overcooked that the fish meat tasted like rubber, and the french fry was also badly over-cooked, tasting as hard as match sticks. We love fish & chips and have had this in many parts of the world as we travel. But definitely, the fish & chips at this restaurant was the worst and most expensive, even much more expensive than in Europe where food is almost always more expensive than in the US in general. From this dish, I don't think that the other food at this restaurant could be much better. So sharing this bad experience to warn other travelers when they go to look for a restaurant in Winthrop, WAMore
Our hungry family of 5 came here after an afternoon on the river. We had to wait 40 minutes for a table, but it was worth it for the outdoor seating area, which was very pleasant. We walked across the nearby suspension bridge while waiting....They were very busy and the food took a while to come out -- fortunately the views helped with the wait. We all had veggie burgers, which were huge (we paid the extra $3 apiece for the Impossible burger). "Side" caesar salads were also huge. Beers were quite good. It was a pricey meal out, but since we don't get out much, we were willing to pay for good burgers, beer, and a nice patio.More
The house salad or Caesar salad with chicken breast are both good and satisfyingly large. The sandwiches, burgers and fries are also good. The beer is excellent. Overall value is excellent. We've eaten there many times and always enjoy ourselves and either eating near the...river or overlooking it.More
I have been to the Old Schoolhouse Brewery in Winthrop several times, whenever I stay in the Methow Valley. The food is consistently good (many burger choices including veggie burgers, fresh salads, quite a few beer choices and other beverages) and service is excellent. Prices...are good too. It's an interesting historic building with a patio out back overlooking the Chewuch River. All kinds of people eat there -- young people, older people, families with little kids, etc. I had an Impossible (veggie) burger one night and a Reuben another night, both delicious. They only had one dessert choice -- vanilla ice cream over brownies -- but it was very good.More
When you have a signature dish, you shouldn’t remove it from the menu. The Old School House Burger was the restaurant’s signature dish, in my opinion. The new Classic Burger is far inferior. The bun for example is a generic flat white bread bun, compared...to the pretzel bun of the previous burger. No sauce. No cheese. Sad day in Winthrop. We are regulars despite the fries being habitually cooked at too low of a temperature, resulting in uncrunchy, soggy fries. Please, at least bring back the burger.More
We had dinner on a Monday night and loved it! Like most restaurants, this place was clearly understaffed & overwhelmed by the crowds (one of the only dinner options in town on a Monday). But with that being said, we had a great experience. Our...table was outside on the back patio with patio heaters and a riverside view, really nice!! We shared a salmon dip + pita & veggies appetizer and an impossible burger with garlic fries, all of which was very delicious! Our waitress and the hostess were both very kind & professional, highly recommend this place!More
Pros: Good food, great deck by the river. Cons: Terribly crowded, long wait for a table, longer wait for service. They clearly are not staffed to handle everyone, and they should not allow so many in the door. If it looks crowded, I suggest that...you go elsewhere.More
The food was exceptional and eating by the river on their large outside deck was wonderful. Unfortunately the wait time to receive our food ruined our good time. We ordered appetizers and actually got them after our main meal. The waitress put the order in...late. Good selection of beer. Wait to sit was reasonable on a busy night. Plenty of free street parking. Love the history of the building.More
Four of us waited quite awhile to get into this place on a Monday evening. Part of the problem was that so many other restaurants were closed that night and this was obviously the place to go to for dinner. We were able to order...drinks and wait outside on the deck for a table. On a positive note, we scored a great table next to the river where it was cooler and offered a view. Service, however, was very slow (shortage of staff), but our server was very accommodating. The food was just okay. Three burger dishes and a fish and chips. Nothing special and the fish was overcooked to a crispy toughness. Beer was good. Halfway through our meal, a Cuban fellow who works in the kitchen, came out and sang a few opera songs while standing on the steps leading down to the lower deck. He was wonderful and talented and enthusiastically received by all the patrons. This made our night! Would I return? Maybe. But not for the food.More
Have visited OSB for many years and have always enjoyed our experience. Have noticed in the last few years, even before the pandemic, that service and quality of food was going down hill. Service is incredibly slow regardless of how busy they are and wait...staff is not as friendly as before. Truly felt as if we were an inconvenience to waitstaff. OSB has been a must visit for us for many years and sadly we no longer go due to overall service and quality. Beer still good but will purchase at local market.More
Stopped for lunch and sampled 8 beers. All were good, but especially enjoyed 4 IPAs. If beer isn’t enough, the food was also good. We had Turkey Pesto sandwich and BLT with tots. Would order both again. If you can, sit outside by the river....Very nice space to enjoy beer and sound of river.More
Ordered a burger and ribs. Burger was great but the ribs were over cooked and tough and sauce was nothing special.
It was a bit cool, but we enjoyed our dinner outside right next to the river. The servers were very professional and the kitchen was super fast in bringing our meals. Nice selection of brews. We had the Reuben and the hummus plate. There was...such enormous big serving of hummus that we brought the rest home with us (and ate it later with apple slices). We can highly recommend this restaurant.More
