Why Don't They Want Customers?

I have enjoyed dining here several times. The food is good, very reasonable and the place is quiet and clean. But I went there yesterday for lunch and the woman glared at me like "What do you want?" face. I said I'd like to have lunch. She tossed the menu on my table and did not seem pleased at all. I didn't take it personally as there was only 1 other table and she was being just as mean to them. I asked for hot tea and she brought it in a water glass. I wrapped the napkin around it to drink it! What is going on that a restaurant would not want people to come in and eat the food?

Average food, diner decor, good service

Wife and I dropped in here to get a quick bite to eat. I had the almond chicken and she had the cashew chicken, both were large portions. The rice was cooked nicely. All in all it was worth the small price we paid, but the food was a little bland. One odd thing, we walked in to see about nine people in line for the front desk and only one table with anyone at it. A staff person came up and offer to seat us, telling us that the nice people in line were Uber drivers picking up delivery, so they must do a good delivery business.

I've been eating here for almost 10 years. Wonderful staff, excellent food. 5 Stars. Also, isn't interesting that good reviews are short and sweet? While 1 star reviews are novels?

We went to celebrate the finalization of our adoption. There was us (a party of 5) and one more relative on a separate check. There was one more table of 4 in there also, so they were not busy at all. The food was fine...the problem was when we got our checks. We both had a tip of 18% automatically added to our bill. I would not have minded paying it if we had been high maintenance or if they had been busy, but neither one was the case. They simply added it because we were a table of 6. We didn't take any extra effort than the table of 4. When we asked them to remove it we were told they could not that the register automatically does it when you enter party of 6 and that it is just their policy (which they do not have posted anywhere and no explanation on the check either). She said it's common for all restaurants to do that. We just simply explained we did not want to pay $18 for a tip on a $100 bill. They just kept saying they couldn't do anything. We paid cash..the $100 plus a small tip and left. And just another tip for the waitress, I don't appreciate seeing quiet so much of your breast...either put on a bra or don't wear a shirt that's cut down below them.

overall food was very good. Service was a little slow due to one person manning the front and having to take care of dine in and take out. atmosphere was quite. kI will be going back.

I ordered the Thai Curry with Shrimp, I received very few shrimp. It was mostly Tofu - a lot of it. I paid $14 for SHRIMP THAI CURRY NOT TOFU!!! Also, the Fried WonTon was just a bunch of bread dough NOT WonTon!! That was another $6.50 wasted!! Won't order again!!!

My favorite in the North End

I usually stop here on occasion for lunch. The lunch menu has a dozen or more combination lunches with choice of soup, entrée with either steamed or fried rice, egg roll, tea and fortune cookie. I have tried three or four offerings and have been pleased with each one. The quantity is right for me. The price is moderate and the service is good. If you wish you can order dishes from the main menu. Parking on 6th Ave can be a challenge. This establishment is definitely worth a try.

Chinese Food served hot and plentiful

NCG has been a good place for Chinese food for a long time. The food is hot, served nicely and plentiful. The dishes are tasty and will fit most anyone's tastes for Chinese! We have been twice since Chinese New Year...and that night was busy...take out galore...looks like they do Uberfooddelivery whatever! Even so the food served at the table was in a timely manner and prepared well. I never go away hungry and always have boxes for home. Go and ENJOY!

PEANUTS NOT ALMONDS IN THE SAUTEED ALMOND CHICKEN

It is unfortunate that the customer service was so bad, but even after that I was not going to write a review because I just don't like doing that. But health risks to customers is too important not to share. I ordered for delivery and unfortunately my food sensitivities were forgotten after some confusion by the young lady taking my order. I called and for about 10 mins I was consistently told how it was not their fault, and I asked for my money back after trying to find a way for them to get me what I needed. This was the manager/owner, not sure, and she was like "oh we don't do refunds." I told her well maybe next time start with "sorry for the mix up what can we get you instead?" So despite not wanting to get another dish of this food even without the food sensitivity items, I said okay. Well delivery was way faster than the first time. But this time my sauteed almond chicken had PEANUTS IN it. I had to call back and I really didn't want to. She told me, "I checked the food before it left, it is almonds." I said "I know what almonds look like, this is not it. These are peanuts." She said, "ma'am I GUARANTEE that it's almonds." This was yet another reminder of my first call with her insuring that I was wrong. I said, "Do I need to come down and show you?" She said, "yes come down!" I went to the restaurant and gave her the food back in the same bags they were delivered in, and she didn't even check. She just took them over to the trash can in front of the counter and threw them away. I said, "Don't you want to check?" She said, "It doesn't matter now." She gave me a refund. I told her, "you could kill someone with peanuts, you can't do that, you can't guarantee something like that. You need to respect the customer." I left even more frustrated because she could not even admit this. And she had no real concern for health of the customer. If you have allergies or food sensitivities, do not expect this place to care. If you have a nut allergy, BE CAREFUL.

We just had an early dinner. The BBQ was dry. We told the server and she said I'll see what I can do. When she came back she said "sorry that's just the way it is". What!!?? Seafood especially the shrimp was mealy. Not even close to being fresh. Dull brown sauce on the king pao seafood dish. Luke warm and very little flavor. Shocked at how back this place is. Bad service, outdated decor, unclean, and bland food. Bad mistake on our part. Don't go!!!!

Good food, reasonable delivery

I ordered food for delivery for my employees through Grub Hub. The delivery time was reasonable and the food was good. This is a good option for Chinese food in Tacoma and the delivery option is very convenient.

We've ordered food from this restaurant a few times before, but we've always picked it up. The food itself is average American-style Chinese food. My family and I were on our way home from a weekend trip to Portland, and I didn't feel like cooking. We ordered a meal totaling using the eat24 app from Yelp as we neared home a little before 5pm on a Sunday. It said it would take 45-60 minutes. That seemed fair enough - maybe a little long. I called when it went beyond 60 minutes and was told our order came in during a rush, and it would be cooked in about 15 minutes, then delivered, so maybe about 25 minutes longer. Hmm...ok. We were also advised to try UberEats next time as they didn't rely on the restaurant's drivers. Also, weekends are just busy. (Isn't that true for ALL restaurants?) We have a one-year-old daughter, and it was nearing her bed time. My husband called and inquired as to the status of our order. He was told it was on its way and would be just a few more minutes. 15 minutes more passed. We live 2.5 miles away from this restaurant. I called again, as by this time it had been over 2 hours since we ordered. This time, I didn't want to be put on hold. I told the woman who answered that we weren't paying for our order, but it better be there soon. I expressed my frustration over this situation and she basically only just said, "ok" to me. No apologies or attempts to rectify it. The delivery driver shows up about 2 hours 15 minutes after our order. I told him I wasn't signing the credit card statement. He said ok and started to walk away. I said I would like our food. He said he would have to call because "he usually doesn't leave the food" if someone won't sign (obviously this has happened before to them). He calls the restaurant, and after a minute basically throws an apology my way and literally RUNS away. Needless to say, we were a little shocked. Never again.

Food was great! Service was horrible.

Called in a large order. Was told about an hour for delivery. This was a saturday night. When the order was half an hour late called to inquire. Was told that delivery time was now about two hours and our order would be leaving in fifteen minutes. i live 3 miles from this location. Half an hour later called again. Ready to cancel as we were starving. Was told our order had left fifteen minutes ago. Time from order to delivery ended up being almost 3 hours. Food was good. Delivery boy was VERY friendly and polite. Phone staff was rather rude.

Never order delivery

We have eaten in the past at North China Garden, and while the food is nothing to get excited about, we figured it would be okay for delivery. We ordered on line, received confirmation of our order which indicated delivery within 45 minutes to an hour, reasonable. After an 1 1/2 hours and no food I called. 5 minutes of scrambling and yelling to the kitchen and they said the our food would be another 40 minutes. No apology, no explanation. When I asked how they could expect me to wait 2 1/2 hours for food, it was if she shrugged. She said that they had a lot of orders that night, again no apology. Never again. Never ever again.
