It has been so long since my husband and I got to go out to a restaurant to sit down and eat. We haven't been to the Melting Pot in over a year, so we were pretty excited to finally get to go. We arrived...early so we had a drink in the bar, great service and the server waited a few minutes to cash us out so we could get the Happy Hour price. Our table was in a small eating area and there were only 2 other couples in there. One couple was celebrating something as they had rose petals sprinkled on their table. Our server was Chris who was extremely observant and checking on us reasonably often. The couple celebrating something had a different server, but I thought she was equally attentive. We did the "Big Night Out" meal and I thoroughly enjoyed all of it. The gal picking up our plates after was absolutely wonderful, she had an amazing personality- her name was Yasmina, not sure on spelling, but she was great! The celebrating couple seemed to also be enjoying their meal as they appeared to be happy and content so my husband and I decided to pick up their tab as a surprise. But when their server came to our table so we could pay, she was touched and asked if she could tell them so we did. The young gal got all teary eyed and thanked us so much and said they really enjoyed it. That was a perfect ending to our evening! We will, of course, be back - hopefully sooner.More

This is a bit of a late review but my wife and I were looking forward to having a Valentine's Day dinner there...so we made reservations and went. From the moment we walked in, the place just felt shabby and a bit "cheap". The food...can't...really say it was outstanding. There was lots of it so I suspect folks who enjoy large portions would like it. But for what we paid, the surroundings didn't match the high cost and low quality of the food. In fact...we had arrived early at the bar (not very big by the way), had a quick drink then decided we wanted a bit of class so went next door to El Gaucho and had wine there (lovely place!) until our dinner reservation time arrived. In short, it's highly unlikely we would go there again. We most certainly will go to El Gaucho next door but not the Melting Pot.More

Young lady gave us wonderful service and was the only one working the bar. We give her 5 stars. The Cheese fondue was very disappointing we left there with the thought we would not go back. Then when the bill came it had a 4%...additional charge on food, booze and tax. The young lady that waited on us could not really explain what it was. . When I got home I googled it and found other places that add it say up that it takes care of the government mandated extra cost. I think that is BS and won't go to places that have it in the future.More

I was thoroughly disappointed with this service tonight. It took almost two hours to just get our appetizer cheese and salad then our waiter disappeared for for 45 to 50 minutes at a time and then gave us attitude with her being late. We are...still sitting here with almost 3 hours and no desert yet and its been almost an hour since we've seen our waiter and we don't want to stay for desert. We don't want to come back and we love the melting potMore

WORST. RESTAURANT. EVER. I have been here at least 3 times in the past so I can't believe I got convinced to waste my NYE at this place. Table for 6, too small for us to fit comfortably, and only 2 burners to further make...it restrictive for choices of cheese and bouillon. Our server was slow and inattentive, we were there for over two hours and only got served one drink each, not because we didn't want more, but he never even asked or noticed empty glasses. He was more attentive to the other couple next to us for the 1/6 of a tip that he got from us (which by the way was included on our bill) ATTENTION RESTAURANT WORKERS: GRATUITY INCLUDED IS NOT A FREE PASS FOR POOR SERVICE! We specifically told him that we needed to be out the door by 10PM in order to make it on time to our show at the comedy club, (we were 15 minutes late to that BTW!!) I understand that on a busy night like NYE they have a restricted menu, but wow, at least get the order right when you have dietary restrictions, one in our party is allergic to shrimp, so that was taken off, along with the scallops, nothing to replace it, he just got less to eat. Then when called on it, the server wanted to argue about scallops and shellfish allergies (like he knows what my friend can eat!!) They did bring the scallops out, but too little too late. I personally got the asparagus wrapped in prosciutto as a "starter", it was literally one small asparagus sprig wrapped in a half slice of prosciutto in the middle of a plate with balsamic vinegar squirted on it artistically, (it actually made me laugh when he put it on the table). The ratio of cheese to bread/apples for our cheese course was pathetic, one full tray of the two (bread and apples) brought out was still left over after the minuscule amount of cheese was exhausted! I will say the dessert was great, lots of sweets and very good chocolate. For the price, this place is ridiculous, the amount of food you get and top that off with the fact that YOU COOK IT YOURSELF, I mean, what really am I paying for!? If I would have gathered my entire entree (steak, chicken, shrimp, & scallops) together into one "piece" it may have been 8 ounces, for $79 you can do a lot better!! Plus, like I mentioned, this a cook it yourself place, where nobody tells you how to cook it (I know they are supposed to, it wasn't my first visit, but did Mr. Server-Guy know that?!) Glad we all knew enough to cook our food properly, or there could have been some issues! Bottom line, there are better places to spend your money, especially in Tacoma, go a little bit down the street and pick a restaurant on the water, at least there you have a view of something.More

Visited in a recent Friday night. Stupid me forgot to make reservations until the day of. Fortunately was able to get a table either early or late. I chose 6:30 and they had a table ready for us. We chose the 4 course experience with...appetizer fondue, salad, main course and of course the chocolate fondue for dessert. We decided to split the fondues and only added on an extra salad and this worked out perfectly for us. With a drink each, we paid only $115 for the evening which I thought was reasonable for a special occasion type of meal. Service and food were both excellent and I look forward to visiting again.More

I have been coming to this location for years. This time I bought my daughter for her 19th Birthday on August 5. The service was awful. We made reservations so that we had a guaranteed table. We had to wait anyway but that wasn't an...issue we planned to be there a while to celebrate. Frist they took us upstairs to a very corner booth where we sat side by side. It was dark and clearly meant for a couple. (Oh I forgot to mention I said on my reservation it was a birthday special occasion). So we asked to be moved to a regular table where we sat across from each other that was well lit. The waitress told us that all the other free booths were dirty and needed to be cleaned but she would come back when she had a table. So we waited for her return. When she arrived we moved to a much better seat. The waitress asked if we had been there before we said yes and we just needed a second to look at the menu so we could order our dinner, meanwhile she could bring us water with lemons. She was gone forever, finally came with water and no lemons. We told her she forgot them she said she would be back and so we waited. She came with lemons. We ordered our meal the salad, the cheese, the cooking broth and meat & veggies. We also ordered my daughter a drink. She came back with the cheese, we were surprised, where were the salads? She got us started and my daughter asked where are the other types of bread , like her favorite the pretzels. I explained I did not know but I guess we would have to ask. She finally arrived with the salad and mine was all wrong with dressing on it when I asked for it on the side. We asked for the bread she said she didn't think they had anymore but would check. And book she was gone... like she never came back I finally had to flag another waiter and ask him to find her to send her over. Then she arrives with my new salad and apologized. I asked where my daughters drink was.... She said there was a rush and everything is backed up and she was sorry she would check. Again she was gone. She finally arrived with the drink, It looked amazing and my daughter said it tasted great too. No we are finished with salad and cheese so we are waiting for her to come back to take it and bring the main course. She is no where to be found I stand up walk around and find her laughing and chatting it up with another table. I waved her over she comes and says she was just about to check on us. We asked for the cheese to go, so she said she would return with a kids cup and to go box and our main course. Mind you its not like they have to cook it, I mean the entire premise of fondue is to cook it yourself. So we wait again. She arrives with everything takes the salad pours the bread, vegetables and cheese in the box and begins to pour the cheese over it. I yell hey that is supposed to be separate she apologized. put the rest in a cup and closed the box. Ugh!!!! Then she sets up the broth drops off the food and walks away. Good thing it wasn't our first time there so we knew how long to cook it and what all the sauces were. I also paid an extra 19.99 for lobster to ensure she had it all. As we start to cook we notice we don't have chicken. There was something else there which we found out was beef. She I was looking for her again and I saw her walk by and yelled excuse me. She waved at my like " I'm coming back" so we continued conversing and cooking our food. When she arrived I asked where the chicken was and she said she was sorry we could keep the beef and she would go get chicken. At this point we are just disappointed like the experience was aweful. We didn't see her for a long time after that no checking no nothing. Finally she pops up asking if we wanted desert and at this point I wasn't going to pay for anything else. She apologized it was so busy and since they would be closing she would see about getting her manager to give us desert fondue cards. She left the bill of course and left. When she came back she asked did we need anything else, I had my card to pay and I told her it was my daughters birthday and we were tired and just ready to go. She had the audacity to say oh if I had known I would have given you something for free...... REALLLY?! I told her she didn't know because she didn't ask and it was on the reservation. She apologized I gave her my card to run and when she returned we got out of there. Worst experience ever. The only reason I didn't give it 1 star is because I did enjoy the food we cooked ourselves but everything else sucked! And last but not least they have the nerve to charge a 4% surcharge to the bill!More

This place was already expensive, but we discovered that the 4-course meal we usually get went from $49 each to $65 each! Wow, not sure how they justify such a steep increase. Where am I, the Olive Garden? To make matters worse, the food portions...are smaller and they really rush you thru the dinner. In the past, they recommended to plan for 2 hours (seems about right for a 4-course meal), but we were whisked out of there in 90 minutes. The food tasted fine, but they brought it out so fast that I was not feeling great by the end.More

Mitchell was awesome!! We came in with a Groupon and didn't realize we couldn't use it on Father's Day. It was a special day for me and my boyfriend and we had gotten dressed up to celebrate and come to Tacoma. I was so devastated...when we found out we couldn't have lunch. I had planned this all as a surprise for my boyfriend and I honestly didn't have the money to pay for it out of my own pocket. We didn't tell him any of this. We were just polite and he apologized, as though it was his fault, when it wasn't. Then, he came back and told us he had an idea and he would run it by his superior. He found a way for us to still be able to have lunch and use the Groupon as long as we paid the difference which was affordable. Not only that, but his service was also outstanding. He checked back in with us, making sure we were taken care of, and never treating us less-than because we had a Groupon. He really did a great job! The food was also delicious, the atmosphere was nice and relaxing, and the restaurant was so clean! The girl on the phone (Indigo, maybe) was very helpful and so were all the other staff members at the restaurant! At one point, a waiter from another table even came over to grab a plate I had sitting in my way, just to be nice. So amazed by how great this service was!! Totally worth it! The deal was great and the restaurant and staff were AMAZING.More
