Ive been on a swing to find good thai food in Tacoma. So far, this place is one of my fsvorites. It is understood there is a lot of adapting tradtional meals to American palettes but I feel this place does a very nice translation....I have yet to be dissapointed with any meal and have tried almost everything on the menu but use thom ka or thom yum soup as a benchmark since these should be offered in any thai place. Great food if you can find this small shop hidden back off of Center street.More

This small cafe serves really delicious food that’s prepared south central (Isaan) Thailand style... there’s a variety of dishes unique to the region, plus all the other classic ones too, and everything was yummy :). The place was very busy during our visit, and the...single staff person managed to served everyone promptly (plus with a pleasant smile too). We’ll return here whenever we’re in Tacoma for another scrumptious Thai dinner.. enjoy!More

I was skeptical and almost didn't want to eat the based on the look of the parking lot and building but I am glad we did. The food and service was excellent but be warned they are spicier than most thai restaurants so you might...try with one less star.More

My hosts had eaten at Loak Toung Thai just two days before and were so impressed they wanted to return for lunch! The parking lot is tiny, the exterior quite unprepossessing, but the quality of the food and the service were very good. Do not...be put off by the strip mall surroundings. This restaurant is a genuine find. Some menu options were new to us, perhaps reflecting the Isan style of Thai food. The Basil Eggplant, for example, was beautifully spiced, full of very fresh vegetables, and served with pale pink rice. My companions' noodle dishes were generous and tasty as well.More

Our friends were visiting and wanted Thai food. We had never visited before but was advised by another friend that this place is legit. It is! Having just returned from Thailand, I can say that the food here is pretty great. The spice is actually...spicy! Often times I order Pad Kee Mao super spicy and it comes out to me with almost no spice. The 5 isn't super spicy but you can taste it. It was delicious and the portion sizes are huge. My one regret--we didn't know when closing was so we went a bit late. Because of that, we rushed out and forgot to tip. Next time, we will definitely tip!More

This paces specializes in the Isan style of Thai food. Slight different than typical Thai places. You will find the usual things on the menu, pad Thai, pud see ew, red/green/panang curries etc but flavors are different. More authentic and not so stylized to bland/American...palatesMore

I was surprised at the location of this place - a small 5 store strip mall near a residential area. But I was happily surprised with my experience here. It is a family run establishment. A lot of family photos adorn the walls inside. We...ordered a Thai Fried Rice and a Phad See Ew and both of the dishes turned out to be delicious. Phad See Ew was not too oily and there was ample amount of veggies tossed in for a good flavor. The spice level is a little more than what I've had at other Thai restaurants. The prices are very reasonable and the portions were sizable. A tip - their website is well done, the menu listed on their website is accompanied by photos of the dishes, in case that helps you make a choice!More

Our first visit and we did take out and what a great find. We chose 6 entrees plus soup and spicy wings. Everything was excellent. I forget the name but the ground chicken and rice soup was excellent and far superior to the bland starter...soups you get at a lot of the restaurants. The Tamarind spicy wings were the entire wing and very meaty. Loved all our choices but the Phad Thai and yellow curry really stood out for us. Garlic beef and broccoli as well. Would have likde to be able to comment on the service and decor, but we were in and out with a large take out order. Very pleased with Loak Toung and excellent value. Each to-go entree easily serves two and if you have other entrees, each one will go 4-5 ways.More

My partner is spice-intolerant, so we ordered the lowest spice possible fresh spring rolls, green curry and phad kee mao but everything was perfectly tasty. We also were served a broth-based soup that was comforting rather than spicy. We look forward to returning - there...were a lot of other menu choices to try!More

This small out of the way place is worth finding. The Issan style dishes should be first choice- the sour pork, the sausages, the crispy fried cauliflower and the whole fried fish with green papaya are excellent. Very friendly. They are trying Sunday morning breakfasts-...call and see when they are doing this.More

Visited for the first time in September 2017 (although the restaurant has been open for a year and a half). We were committed to trying new dishes we typically don't eat or don't see on every other Thai menu in Tacoma. We ordered pineapple fried...rice, Issan sausages, and a pork and shrimp glass noodle dish from the salad area of the menu. For spiciness, we did 3 stars on the rice and 4 on the noodles. The fried rice was bland, but the sausages and noodles are so good they will likely become an addiction. Sausages are made with pork, rice, and curry and burst with complex flavor. The noodle "salad" was served warm and had red onions, grape tomatoes, peanuts, cilantro, and lime juice. One bite, and I was back in Bangkok! I could eat this everyday. Portions are generous - these three dishes fed two hungry women for lunch with enough left over for another meal for each of us. Prices average $9-10/dish. After we ate, our hostess brought out complementary small dishes of coconut tapioca pudding with jackfruit. It was the perfect ending. She also chatted with us about Thailand and the restaurant. She said they do really good curry, so I must visit again soon. It is a relaxed atmosphere with strings of pictures of family and friends on the walls. I've found my new favorite Thai place. Just remember they are closed Sunday and Monday.More

I've tried Thai food all over Tacoma and elsewhere before I found this gem. It's just a little hole-in-the wall place off Center Street but well worth finding. They only have a few tables and irregular hours so you might want to give them a...call first but the food is amazing. I keep going back to experience all the dishes I can with flavors I've never had before. Try the curries and anything on their "specials" menu. Just be careful: As the other reviewers have said, it can be terribly spicy! I like spicy Thai food but I would never go over a "2" here.More
