The restaurant is clean and very nice inside. The staff is attentive and efficient. But the food was not good whatsoever. Drenched in sauce, fatty pork ribs and little chicken in the Almond Fried Chicken. My partner had the fish and chips which were rubbery...and warm. Sadly we won’t return.More

The place is very nice inside. Decided to eat in the bar. It was not a good experience. I felt like we were in a dive tavern. There was a loud customer sitting at a table talking on the phone. Then when he got off...the phone he was talking loudly to the Bartender across the room. There was a worker on break sitting at the bar and they were all loudly conversing across the room. Food was very expensive and not very good. Started with the egg flower soup. It was just ok. Not much of anything in it. I ordered the almond chicken which came with fried rice, bbq pork and two spring rolls. The almond chicken was just ok. The fried rice was room temperature. Yes I told the bartender. The spring rolls were good. My husband ordered the sweet and sour ribs with special chowmein. He thought it was good but he is easy to please. I noticed that the special chowmein didn’t have much of anything in it and it looked like yellow noodles. Service was good.More

Growing up in Spokane in the 1950's/60's I have many memories of coming here with my parents for dinner. It was always my mom's favorite restaurant so we came here often. While much has changed (newer building now set off farther from the street) they...still offer the same dishes I remember from over 50 years ago: tasty fried shrimp and sliced lean pork with spicy mustard or ketchup and sesame seeds. Bountiful chow mein and hot tea. Large portions and attentive service was appreciated. Prices seemed rather high but worth the experience traveling down memory lane.More

When I was younger, my family and I would visit this restaurant often and loved everything about it. I moved to the valley and eventually found a new Chinese joint. But, since I work downtown, I chose to order lunch today. Service was amazing for...my to go order. The staff was very nice and even called me back about a substitution they needed clarification on. Once I got my food, I could not believe the difference a few years make. The food was just awful. Cheapest ingredients they could have scrounged up. I swear the chicken noodle soup, is Campbell's out of the can, or possibly even a generic. The chow mien was a sloppy mess with stale crunchy noodles. The beef in the "special" chow mien was bottom of the barrel meat and the noodles had no flavor. My lemon chicken came with sweet and sour sauce. The only good part was the egg flower soup. Delicious! But cup was only filled half way. I ended up throwing over half of my food in the garbage. Very sad... No wonder the dining area was empty. It used to be jam packed, always!More

Best "Chinese" meal I've ever had was at an Italian Restaurant in Livingston, TX. It served Chinese food on Tuesdays then. The very worst was today. I couldn't finish it. I had chow mein with prawns and fried rice. The "chow mein" was utterly dry...and totally tasteless. Had to ask for some sweet/sour sauce to make it palatable. The server, who was very nice, brought me some teriake stuff. It did the job, but only just. The fried rice (about twice as much as anyone could eat) was equally flavorless. Teriake went on that too, but still couldn't eat it. My son ordered "General" something. No, not Gen Tso. Menu said, "Hot and spicy". It was neither. I've never seen my son NOT clean his plate. Prices for lunch were high, but a good meal would have made it okay. We paid the bill, declined boxes and left. We should have taken heed when, well after noon, there were only four cars in the parking log. But. . live and learn.More

My son and I enjoy lunch here occasionally but decided to try to-go dinner. We both had really good dinners - broccoli beef, almond chicken, general's chicken. Both meals came with soup, which is rare for chinese take out. My only comment is, although the...portions were generous, my experience with Happiness and Ming Wah was much larger portions. My son favors Cathay Inn. I prefer Ming Wah. Either place does the trick.More

My family and I have been eating at the Cathay Inn for over 40 years. The food is consistently excellent. Their combination dinners are great and the other dishes are excellent. The owners and the staff are always friendly and welcoming. Their food is authentic,...healthy and delicious. It really is the best Chinese food in Spokane. The restaurant is always immaculate and so is the kitchen. My sister worked there for years so we know the kitchen is immaculate. I strongly encourage you to enjoy and support this wonderful restaurant.More

I wanted to take my wife out for a nice dinner, (believe me she deserved it :-) ), Ended up here, Ordered the Beef & Broccoli dinner - :-( Wife ordered a combination meal :-( I received about a head of broccoli very little beef;...the beef was poor so poor I wouldn't let my dog eat it. The almond chicken, well the first bite was good, then nottttt - the rice very dry, that is until the water from ALL of the broccoli took over the plate. Wife's prawns, more batter than meat, also raw, rice dry, egg roll greasy. We're on a tight budget and I plan a night out. Next time I plan a night out, we'll go somewhere else.More

I love coming to Cathay Inn I've never been disappointed. Today we went for dinner and were we in for a surprise. Newt who is one of the greatest wasn't in today and we got a young man named Dillon. I was very impressed. Talking...with him I found he normally works in the bar. But due to Newt being gone he was helping in the restaurant. He was on top of everything. Very neat appearance as well as a very hospitable demeanor. When he smiled you could tell he was happy you were there.. I briefly spoke to manager on shift but I want everyone to know the staff at Cathay Inn go above and beyond to make sure your dining experience is outstanding. Thanks again DillonMore

We love Chinese food and dined here on a few occasions when we used to live in Spokane. It was not our favorite spot, but would come here when the group we were with wanted to. Our group of six came again last night. The...tea was hot but it tasted weird to my wife and I. The food arrived with huge portions on the plate. One entree could possibly be split with another person if both were only moderately hungry. I ordered General Chicken and my wife had #4 on the combo list. The flavor was good, but not excellent in our opinion. We have had better tasting elsewhere. Still, we enjoyed the conversation and atmosphere. Our server was very friendly and attentive. Figure on about $12-16 per entree.More
