Let me begin by saying that when I knew I would be staying in Renton on this trip I was excited about being able to get food from Himalayan Cafe, a restaurant I've enjoyed tremendously on previous visits. However, this time was very different. Because...of COVID I got take out, ordering meat samosas, tandoori chicken, and butter naan. The samosas were superb. The naan was fine. But the chicken was horrid. It was dried out and practically inedible. It was late in the day when I got my food and I had just arrived from the east coast, so I ate what I could and the next day I was busy all day. When I called the restaurant to report my experience they said they were sorry, but offered nothing to make up for giving me chicken that should not have been served to a paying customer. I contrast this with a previous experience at Himalayan Cafe when we were disappointed that our food was too spicy. Not only did they replace the dishes, they didn't charge us for them. Something has changed here and it is not for the good. I don't think I'll be going back and that is the biggest disappointment of all.More
My friend and i ventured in based on reviews and we were NOT disappointed. We agree...vegetable samosa among the best we have ever had. Paneer masala was rich and spicy. Gopi alone took care of the serving and front of the house with an easy...and delightful manner. The food was fantastic and the solo wait staff a delight as he hustled to try and meet everyone's needs and expectations. A repeat staple kind of restaurant for sure!More
I ordered paneer makhani and Kashmiri kofta. Both the gravies had same taste and color. Another thing It’s way to expensive compare to another restaurant in Renton. Waiters are loud and confident but are not mature to take feedback. Food quality is ok not unique....Decor and cleanliness is ok.More
So so good! I’ve been wanting Indian food and got my wife to go as well. We really enjoyed the momos! REALLY enjoyed the butter naan. The service was good. The atmosphere good, a really enjoyable lunch!
We were so excited to find this restaurant near IKEA where we had been shopping. The vegetable samosas were amazing! The dough was herby and delicious, as was the filling. The vegetable biryani was laden with vegetables and the portion was very large. The butter...naan was amazing. Would love to return.More
At least twice a year we travel to Renton just to eat at the Himalayan Café. Why? First because the food is great. Always good variety for me the vegetarian and for my meatarian husband. He loves the goat entrees. Second because the staff is...simply wonderful! Attentive, genuinely nice; they actually care whether or not you enjoyed your meal. Best pakoras I've had and the raita was delicious. Always love the naan, just can't seem to duplicate it at home. We had the buffet and my goodness, the paneer was simply perfect, great texture and taste. Would recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves Indian style food or would like to try food that is out of the ordinary.More
The Himalayan Cafe is by far our favorite place to eat in the Renton area. The food is always delicious, the lunch buffet is superb, and the staff are always so gracious! Thank you!
I tried out an new restaurant on my latest visit to the Seattle area. The Himalayan Cafe was a good choice. I decided on the Lamb Mango dish. The lamb was tender and the garlic, ginger and mango sauce was tasty, with just the right...amount of spice (three out of five) The garlic naan was tasty and was a good "mop" for tasting the sauce. Service was friendly and attentive. I will be back the next time I am in Seattle.More
Absolutely the BEST Indian food we've ever had. Picked this place because my son & I were in Renton for a model show. Since we live North this is an opportunity to visit someplace we would not normally go to. Also, I was intrigued that...they served Nepalese food as I have been to Nepal & love the cuisine The menu is HUGE! So many options but I really wanted the have the Chicken Momos...OMG! Fabulous...it would be a meal if you weren't sharing. Whoever said the Momos were just so-so has probably never eaten them in Nepal. Had a wonderful sweet lassi & my son had a Himalayan Sunrise cocktail which needs to be served with more ice...minor detail. He had the Mint Lamb & I choose the Himalayan Chicken Curry. We both chose 3 for hotness...perfect. When we sat down we immediately got 2 pieces of papadam. I prefer it hot but still a treat. The rice was unequivocally the best we've ever had at any restaurant. Also ordered Raita. Too full for dessert...but this will be our go to pace next year. Ambiance is very nice...quiet...& waitress was darling & helpful. Garlic nan was unusual in that neither of use could put our finger on what was missing but would not order again. Yes, a bit more pricey but both of us took home a large quantity of leftovers. Lots of cheap places to eat but but if you want authentic Nepali/Indian food this is the place.More
A quiet very clean place to eat. Staff pleasant, polite and very helpful. The background music is authentic (from Nepal) and was played at a volume that allowed conversation with your fellow diners. The food was well prepared, the rice was fresh, the lamb was...in large tender chunks and they were not stingy with it. The spices were added with flavor in mind, but sadly, for me they are an aquired taste. They do not have after meal mints but a bowl of Fennel seeds. You use the the provided scoop and eat them from your palm. A novel concept.More
I discovered this little gem when I had an appointment next door, and I’m so glad I did! The staff is kind, the chai is the best, the food is exceptional. I now come back here anytime I’m in the area. They play Buddhist chanting...which totally relaxes me. What a wonderful way to enjoy a delicious meal!More
I like curry, but both the fish and lamb curries we ordered were kind of sweet- maybe too much coconut milk? The lamb was manageable, not chewy. Waitress was polite.
Saw all the great reviews on this place, and I love me some Indian food! We ordered the paneer appetizer, it was delicious. I had the paneer tikka masala, my boyfriend ordered a chicken dish I cannot recall. The food was good, fresh. The reason...for only 3 stars was the service. We ordered drinks before the appetizers, the waitress forget. We also ordered naan, the food came, she said the naan would be right out. 10 more minutes, no naan. I asked the bus boy to see about our naan.. finally, 15 min into my dinner we get the naan. The naan was under cooked! Naan is one of the things I look forward to when enjoying my meal, not after my meal. I was disappointed. I will probably not be coming back to this Indian restaurant.More
The garlic naan was amazing. The chicken mango (masala type) dish was great! The beer selection was good. The service was awesome! And the chicken minis were pretty good! I'll go back!
