My research on eating on Orcas led me to the Doe Bay Cafe and I discovered they only take reservations if you are not staying there, 48 hours in advance. Fair enough, I called then and they worked us in. When we showed up for...dinner however, they had a big party booked for the entire indoor restaurant and seated us outside on their waterside deck which was chilly at first then cold. We thought it was rude of them to not disclose this when we made the reservation and they are in the middle of nowhere to drive to so we were kind of stuck once there. If they had told us upfront we could have dressed warmly or chosen not to dine. They offered us blankets but even then my wife was freezing. Our wait person had to literally run up and down a flight of stairs to serve us and we were the only ones on the deck for most of the evening so service was slow. The food itself was really good with a creative menu and nice variety but not inexpensive. Overall this was not a pleasant dining experience as we had looked forward to, but I am guessing we just caught them on a busy night and a cold one at that! It could have been so much better had they told us up front we'd be sitting outside. They have a great reputation so give them consideration if you don't mind driving out to their location.More

Doe Bay Cafe has lost a step since we at there a year ago. We did have a mostly private dining area on the deck overlooking Otter Cove and the wait staff was friendly. The food just didn't seem up to the regular standards of...past years. Still locally sourced, which is great, but we left feeling like we had just had an average meal. I still appreciate that they have kid options that are not your regular chicken fingers and burgers. Homemade kids plates are great.More

Out at the edge of the universe. A wonderful get away. Superb view, good view. Nice hot tubs. The Fest is a hoot!

Thanks Gregory... One of the many things we miss while shut down is feedback, especially nice comments like this. We will be back when it is allowed and safe.

The dinner here is delightful, and you can sit at the bar and watch the chefs in action - fresh pasta made while you watch, and beautiful fresh veggies!

Open mic night on Thursday. Great food. The radish appetizer was different and fresh. The Mac and Cheese was amazing. Great service in the off season.

Not many meat dishes. Tasty, but a little on the expensive side. Service was great, but there were only a few people in the cafe. Portions were a bit on the light side for some dishes.

Beautiful location, but the service/staff was very unorganized and lacked any communication. I did not even eat here as I waited over an hour and finally left. We were a party of 2, and the bar was wide open but we were told to not...sit there and put our name on the list. We did, and other people would walk in and sit down at the bar and get served immediately. At first I thought their name was being called but no, this was not the case. When confronted about it, the staff ignored and said they’ll seat us in a bit. The staff was condescending to customers and this was not appealing! There were several other people waiting to sit at the bar and were told to put their name on the list as well. Overall walked out as the staff was negative, talking poorly about the customers (in front of the customers!) and service seemed very slow. Food looked good but this is Orcas Island, you can get a great view, good food, and way better service easily somewhere else.More

1 pork shoulder sandwich, 1 scone, 1 side of bacon and 2 glasses of wine = $60, adding tip $70. Service was good.

Quite possibly the best dining experience on Orcas Island. It was perfect from start to finish. The dishes are imaginative and delicious. They use fresh, locally sourced produce. The pasta was homemade. The setting is beautiful. Our server, Marley, was splendid--no rushing us. She was...charming and knowledgeable and didn't even ask "are you still working on that?" This restaurant is well worth the drive. Reservations are essential.More

Our party was all agreed: this was one of the best meals we've ever had. The freshest possible produce and meat, expertly prepared, with stunning desserts to follow. We ordered nearly everything on the menu, ate it all, and none of us felt anything but...satisfied after.More

Sweet. Couldn't be more delighted if my comments made your day. Good when humans can do that to each other. Sorry to say we live in Portland so it might be a while before we're back but we love Orcas... so maybe next summer... More
