The Calico Cupboard, in Mount Vernon and also in LaConner, has been a favorite lunch spot for years on my visits to the Skagit Valley. But I don't think I'll be back. While I recognize inflation has driven restaurant prices up, even before the pandemic...CC was getting very pricy. And now it's ridiculous: $18 for a turkey sandwich, with potato chips on the side -- no cup of soup or small salad. The ratio of turkey and filling to bread was disappointing. The flavorful elements of the sandwich -- chive cream cheese and cranberry chutney -- were so thin that the sandwich was bland. The service, too, left a lot to be desired. Though it was a busy lunchtime during Tulip Festival, the restaurant was buzzing with staff. Yet it took ages for anyone to pay attention to us -- servers and water fillers would zip past but not catch an eye, nor stop to actually refill water or coffee. We wanted to order pie after our sandwiches, but no one ever came back to check on us, so I finally had to ask for our bill, and we just paid and left. Calico Cupboard is resting on its laurels, but it's been a disappointment the last couple times I have come.More

We had not gone in a while and were pleased to find the same great quality of fresh and local ingredients. For breakfast we had Skagit Hash (fresh broccoli, tomatoes, spinach, mushrooms, red onion, and garlic on a generous amount of local country style potatoes,...crushed red pepper flakes, topped with a little feta and mozzarella cheese) & PNW Sandwich (a farm fresh over-hard egg, sharp white cheddar, bacon, avocado, tomato and garlic aioli on rosemary roasted red-pepper focaccia bread, served with local country style potatoes or fresh fruit). Delish!More

Went here for breakfast while visiting family. The pastry selection was impressive. My eggs were a bit hard for an eggs Benedict dish.

Lovely restaurant with inside and outside seating. Lovely staff. Interesting little antique shop in same building. Good coffee, very good Chai tea latte. Close to river walk and downtown shops.

Food was excellent! Busy place due to tulip festival but we were sat in 30 minutes family of 4 plus a high chair. There is a gift shop attached to spend your time! I got the breakfast bowel with bacon and it was some of...the best biscuits and gravy I have had! Kids pancakes were yummy! Mom got Italian sausage scramble and loved it!! Also grabbed a apple cinnamon roll and almond croissant to go! Both were absolutely amazing! Perfect place to eat some breakfast before heading to roozengaarde tulips.More

I had the smoke salmon scramble and it was good. When I ordered it I was a bit worried that it might be too rich, but it wasn’t. It was good! I had the sourdough bread with it and it was one of the best...I have had. The service was a bit slow. We had to ask for coffee refills and we got tired of waiting and had to go to the counter for our check. Other than that, it was good. I would return.More

I went in to Calico Cupboard recently and had breakfast. The food was good, eggs were cooked as I ordered but the atmosphere was very noisy. I think it's mainly because the area is so open. I had a hard time hearing my wife with...all of the loud conversation around us. The service was not great, took forever to get coffee refills. For what you received on your plate, I feel breakfast was over priced.More

It was a fairly busy Tuesday. I understand pandemic times and people are short staffed. The person that brought the coffee turned away so fast that I couldn't ask for cream fast enough. The other staff walking and filling coffee cups never came our way,...so after 15 minutes, i went to the counter to get cream (no big deal) and had to ask for water. The cinnamon roll was amazing and well worth the splurge. The breakfast sandwich on the biscuit was ok. The biscuit was dense and wasn't my favorite. My mom had the quiche with bacon and mushrooms. She said it was OK, but wouldn't repeat it. I would come back and try something else. They have many options on the menu.More

I have dined at all Calico Cupboard's locations (LaConner, Anacortes - now gone - and Mt. Vernon) over the past 40+ years and the food has been consistently excellent. Today's lunch with two friends at their Mt. Vernon location was a MAJOR disappointment. I ordered...one of my all-time favorites, their turkey chutney sandwich, and asked for it to be made on French or Italian bread. The sandwich is priced at $15. I got my sandwich made with very little turkey (regular roasted turkey and what little was there was good) ON TWO HEELS OF DAY-OLD BREAD. The chutney was not their former chutney. This was wet, thin and drippy. For $15, I would expect two slices of fresh bread that weren't the last two end pieces from a day or two ago. One of my friends ordered the Washington Turkey sandwich. (It's a grilled version of the sandwich I had but without lettuce.) She said it wasn't good either. 'Tis a sad day indeed. Where has Calico Cupboard gone? To new owners it looks like. The Anacortes location is long gone. And their sister restaurant in LaConner, Seeds, is closed up, too. Save your money and go elsewhere. The food is now definitely not worth the price.More

Great little country style place. Portion size was big. Waitress was attentive. Staff was nice. Nice bakery also. Very clean bathrooms. Probably the cleanest restaurant bathrooms I have ever been in.

This is a great location in what seems to be a very old warehouse or factory of some kind. High ceilings and lots of old wood and cool décor, plus a whole shop full of country furnishings, it that's your style. Breakfast was delicious. I...had a salmon benedict which was perfectly prepared, and we took a cinnamon roll to go which was breakfast the next two days.More

Have the grilled cheese sandwich! We also took home a Carmelita for dessert later. Especially of note was our wait person who made the experience great for us.

We were looking for a place to grab a quick bite on our way out of town and happened upon this cafe. We had tried to place an order for pick up, but for some reason, they were not picking up their phone. We arrived...around 1:30 and ordered veggie burgers to go-while we waited, we also had a raspberry scone. It was not my favorite, more of a shortbread consistency. The one error we made was not requesting any ketchup-although the veggie burgers were flavorful, they lacked any sort of condiment (ketchup/Mayo/mustard) note for future orders.More

Yes, they do take reservations. Our work group meets there every year for a Christmas breakfast so we reserve ahead of time.
