I am not from around here but we were staying close by so that we could catch an early morning flight. We had decided to have Chinese food but didn't know where to go. We read reviews on here and decided to give this place...a try. We were not disappointed at all.Service was spot on. The servers were helpful, attentive, and very polite. Restaurant was clean and inviting. And the food... we both ordered the Individual Dinners and boy was it fantastic from the Wonton and egg flower soup to the main course. We paid by credit card and they came directly to your table to pay, didn't have to stand at counter and wait to pay. I would highly recommend anyone to stop in.More

We have been eating here off and on for ten years. Even after having moved away, returning to Mandarin Kitchen is a must. The service is friendly, professional, and prompt. There is no waiting, no chummy chatting from the “I am your waiter Joe” types....In no time, our hot and tasty food arrived. We dug into the Tiger pork which was beautifully spiced, crunchy and a treat. Honey walnut chicken is our favorite with light airy crunchy noodle topping over delicious chicken in a light creamy sauce. The appetizer combination plate is a great way to start the meal with the best egg rolls and fried shrimp as well as about three other treats. No too expensive, relaxing, and delicious food at the hands of the best staff ever.More

We had walked by earlier in the day and when it was time for us to choose dinner, we thought Chinese sounded great. We went in at about 730pm and the restaurant parking lot was still full. Good sign! We ended up ordering the Hunan...Dinner and it was amazing! The fried chicken wings were so delicious, the egg drop soup I had was great, and the Kung Pao chicken had KICK! The food came out really quickly and the service was friendly and fast. If we end up in Des Moines again, we will definitely eat here again!More

Very friendly local, family run chinse restaurant. All the chinesed favorites done well. The dining room could use a little refresh but, all in all exactly what i expect in a chinese restaurant!

I only go here for take out Chinese food so, I can't speak on what its like to actually sit down and eat at the restaurant. On that note, I do recommend this place if you are looking for good Chinese food in the Des...Moines, Normandy Park area. Nice staff, decent menu, and they have a lounge with a fun bar area! The downside is that the parking lot is way too small and street parking is tricky.More

The food is very good and the staff are very accommodating. I have Egg and Soy allergies and they had many items on the menu that I could safely eat. The wait staff were very knowledgable about the ingredients in the various dishes. They have...both eat-in and carryout. The portions are generous. I will definitely be returning to eat there.More

I can’t believe this is rated #4 in this area. Very limited menu, not flexible. Entrees smothered in sauces. Chicken and vegetables was disgusting, was that even chicken? Chicken shouldn’t be mushy.

Food is great. Wait staff if friendly. Service is quick. Enough food for a couple of meals. Lots to choose from on the menu.

We've been going to Mandarin Kitchen for over 15 years now. The food is consistently delicious, nice comfy casual atmosphere, friendly staff. We stopped by for dinner last week and had yet another amazing experience. Always plenty of food to take home for leftovers.
