Lovely place with an ocean view and great food. We stopped after driving through Chuckanut Drive. Was not sure what to expect but the quality of the food surpassed our expectations.

Based on prior reviews, we were prepared for an expensive lunch, but one that would be worth the price. We were not disappointed on the first count - it was almost $150 for 2 persons w/ 2 entrees, sharing an appetizer, 1 iced tea and...1 glass of wine. However, we were disappointed on the second count - the food was mediocre at best. The crab and shrimp in the seafood salad were not fresh and were basically flavorless, which may explain why the salad came with a serrano chile dressing - to flavor it up. The view was lovely, the service fine, but the overall experience was lacking. For a restaurant with such high end pricing, the food should be top notch which sadly it was not.More
This is a place which must be relying on its view and reputation. The view is very nice. We had the calamari appetizer which was mushy and greasy. The entree seafood salad ($36) had three tasteless shrimp and a bit of crab. This meal would...have been overpriced at half its cost. One and done.More
Great view - great service- Food good - most expensive lunch I have had outside of a major city any where in the world. We ate appetizers, lunch from special lunch menus - no drinks, over $100. Love to go back but would hate to...see the dinner menu pricesMore
We got reservations for 5 pm when sunset was at 6, so we thought we were good with the view. Unfortunately, the sun was reflecting off the water, so our view was obscured for a while. Our food was great (appetizer yummy, lobster perfect, dessert...divine), and the view was fantastic once we could see it. Unfortunately, our server seemed slow, forgetful, and just not good at his job. We asked for wine that we didn't get, which he did apologize for spacing on it. We didn't get an in between 'intermezzo' that was supposed to come with our meal that he took to everyone else. We will definitely come back here again, as it's one of the places we are going to go to from now on for an anniversary or Valentine's Day. We just hope to never get our server again.More
We’ve dined at the O. B. when we wanted a consistently good experience with food quality and service for the last 25 years. Not today! It was “fine”, but for a 25 to 30 dollar lunch we expect really good. The main complaint was the...service. Our server asked if she could clear our plates while we were half way through our meal. We stayed less than an hour! And they had only 4 occupied tables. Don’t get it?! Where did their great wait staff go??More
We were staying in Bellingham for a few days and came here for dinner one night. You must make reservations as this popular restaurant is busy. The sunset was gorgeous and it seemed like a better view then I remembered from the last time we...dined here. What made our dinner more special was our server, Tristan, who was so friendly and attentive (even behind the mask) you have an excellent server. My DH doesn't pay too many compliments but he even mentioned how good she was. The food was excellent (he had the filet mignon and I had the boulabaisse). He had a few oysters (can't recall the name) but he found them a bit salty for his taste. The small parking is limited so you may have to park down the street. There are no street lights so I found using my light on cellphone helpful when leaving in the evening.More
We have gone to the Oyster Bar off and on for years. This is the first time it was a disappointment. The smoked seafood chowder was to die for but the salmon we had was not good and certainly not worth the price. It was...my husband's birthday so I didn't give candid feedback when the waitress asked as I didn't want to ruin the mood. Privately, I gave the feedback to the waitress but her response was why didn't I say something when originally asked. I had already explained why but it didn't compute somehow. I just wanted her to know but she was a bit edgy about it. She offered a free desert but that wasn't the point and I just didn't want to belabor it any further. We probably won't go back for awhile. There are other places to try.More
Beautiful setting and fabulous food! Being from the south we rarely have opportunity to experience fresh oysters! The rest of the meal was exceptional!
We went there to celebrate my 65th birthday. The food and service was excellent. We lucked out on the weather so we were treated with the view of the San Juan Islands. I thought the prices were good for the quality and quantity of food.
This is one of our favorite fine dining restaurants and we try to come here several times a year. This visit did not disappoint. The entrees were absolutely delicious. I had the venison, which was one of the specials. It was cooked to perfection and...was to die for. My daughter had the gnocchi and she loved it. My wife had the sole, which was also one of the specials. It too was fantastic. On this visit the service was not up to par, however. It was slow and our server was not very attentive. We had to as her twice both for a glass of ice and sweetener for our coffee. We were also disappointed with our desserts. I had the vanilla bee crème caramel, which was a flan/custard dessert. Unfortunately, it did not look very appetizing. It lacked presentation and looked like it was just dropped onto the plate. It tasted okay, but it was not what I was hoping for. My wife had the key lime pie. It too lacked presentation and really left her wanting. The crust was far too thick and there wasn’t much filling. The filling though was good; there just needed to be more filling and less crust. The only dessert that was really good was my daughter’s. She had the chocolate truffle cake. She loved it. The entrees made up for the other shortcomings and we will definitely be coming back.More
This is an establishment that is packed not only to the gills, but also serving the gills and plenty of other items swimming in the sea, but let's be frank: they could give you a bag of Fritos and a pint of "Bastard Kat" (a...Whatcom IPA) and we would all still be out on the deck taking those pics of the Puget Sound and having a great time. You are paying in large part here for the view. Part of the appeal here is Chuckanut Drive, which is one of the five top-rated scenic drives in the state. If you drive along this seaside route, be sure to stop at a few of the scenic overlooks and enjoy the vistas of the San Juan Islands. This is very compelling scenery. Oh yes, the food. One of the main attractions here is the list of oysters. They usually have about eight on the sheet, and at least four types are available because--well, you can't always get all of them. We had some of the Totten Bay small fellows on-the-half, and they were fine. We washed them down with a very dry Moscadel--which I would praise. For the main course, my wife had trout stuffed with scallops, very nicely done. For my entree, I wasn't fair here, I have to say, because I ordered the Cioppino, a tomato-based seafood bouillabaisse I have had in many venues and which was also a family favorite. This one was all right. There were some aspects of it that could use improvement: a) The dish usually has as its star either a bit of lobster or dungeoness crab, but neither one was present in this rendition. I suggest they add one of the items. It needs one of those. Today's version did have mussels, clams, fish, and some very good shrimp. b) Some versions of the dish use a bit of beef stock for a base, to give the dish depth--absent here; but this is not absolutely necessary. c) Last, and this was a bit odd, they seemed to add on-top a bit of some kind of thousand-island dressing, or one of those dressings you use on sushi--really quite out of place with this dish. Don't do that. As we were both perusing these dishes, the view never failed to please. Try some other items on the menu. The staff is attentive and friendly. And bon appétit!More
I hadn't eaten here in ages so I took my wife here for the scenery and oysters. She ordered salmon, as usual, while I had the pan-fried oysters, of course. Service was friendly, attentive, and genuine. Chuckanut Bay is just gorgeous as the sun goes...down and Chuckanut Drive is one of the most scenic roads in Washington State (Highway 11).More
The only place I will ever go for oysters! I love their smoked salmon special appetizer with beets and goat cheese, ugh, so good! Every dish I’ve had here has impressed me. The service always goes above and beyond to make sure their guests are...happy and enjoying themselves. The fish tacos on their lunch menu are wonderful!More
This restaurant has got to be one of my favorite in the towns near Bow. Always friendly staff. Glad to see them open back up safely through Covid. If you are ever dining here and they have the pickled beet salmon appetizer, GET IT you...will be amazed.More
