We took a day tour from Canada down to Lynden, Burlington and over to Fairhaven via Chuckanut Drive. As it was Monday, several restaurants were closed. We came across this place and instantly appreciated the menu and decor. This old building seats guests on 3 floors. We were seated on the lower floor by a lovely stained glass window and view of the back walkway. We both ordered the half sandwich and mushroom soup - a perfect size for lunch when having a touring day. The mushroom soup was absolutely delicious. Prices were reasonable, staff were friendly and prompt. We are glad we stopped by.

Was so looking forward to eating here as on their website it stated they had award winning Clam Chowder. What a disappointment, it was curdled loaded with potatoes and I think I found maybe 1 small piece of clam. I am not one to send found back so ate it even though it was curdled and tasted very bland and more like potato soup than Chowder. They actually should never have served it being that is was separated and not award winning. Another member of our party ordered the 3pc fish and chips. He was very surprised when he discovered that they had cut one of the pieces of fish in half to make it look like 3 pieces. He showed the waitress who immediately said she would bring another piece of fish. She was a little shocked. Do not think this is a restaurant I will go to again. Very disappointed

The covered, heated patio works well for Covid dining. We ate breakfast there in the pouring rain, and it was comfortable as well as well-ventilated with side panels open to the air. Service was excellent. The frittata served with tomato slices, toast and fruit was a bargain at $9.

So we went again to Skylarks where we have often gone before it changed hands, The three others got their meals as ordered, but I had chosen the pot roast and the wait person set down a French Dip. "No problem, "I said to the others as I sent it back, "Pot roast cooks for hours and all they have to do is slice off a serving." But I waited and waited and waited, and the others were almost finished their meals when a giant mound of mashed potatoes appeared, topped with carrots and around the mound, a few little one-inch chunks of meat and some shreds. We asked that this belated and sorry excuse for a meal be taken off the bill but instead were granted just a 20% refund. Why, because I had eaten all the little scraps of meat so had forfeited the right to a refund. The waiter/manager went on to rather rudely explain that when the order went in they were OUT of pot roast! He then told us that the chef had cooked a whole NEW pot roast in just the five (???) minutes my meal was delayed! Comical explanation for scraping out the bottom of a pan and serving it, but lying does not work with me. Will not return.

We had been here a few times for dinner and always enjoyed it. However this time, their menu was updated with increased prices. I understand, times are tough, but the price increase now renders the food completely not worth it. The fish and chips is 3 chicken nugget size pieces for $19. Not worth it. Our water glasses were empty pretty quickly and none of the 3-4 bussers/hosts standing around found the time to refill our glasses. Poor service and overpriced food. It’s too bad

I ordered two codfish wraps to go. What I got was a wrap with a huge amount of coarsely chopped cabbage (worse coleslaw ever) and a minute piece of fish on each wrap. About the size of a thumb. Well., maybe more like the size of a pinky. Cost for this pile of cabbage was $38. I would not return to Skylarks Hidden Cafe period. Very disappointing is a mild way to describe it.

We enjoyed a delicious breakfast with some old favorites and new. One certain hit was lemon poppyseed pancakes, served with fresh strawberries and maple syrup. Breakfast burrito was super, served with crispy roasted potatoes; only “problem” was chunks of both bacon and tasty ham ! Avocado omelette was also fresh and delicious. Attentive service; interesting atmosphere in Fairhaven. On the mark for a return visit !

My husband and I stopped in Fairhaven on 9/14 searching for a goos seafood restaurant. The menu board outside Skylarks advertised world famous clam chowder! My husband is from Massachusetts so that was all the information he needed. We were seated outside in a very inviting courtyard. The host discussed the local brews and went off to get our beers. The waitress said the clam chowder was indeed excellent. My husband ordered a large bowl and I ordered the fish wrap. Fried cod. Well the potatoes in the chowder were very over cooked but the flavor was good. My fish wrap was mostly coleslaw with two very skimpy pieces of cod. I left half the wrap as I just picked out the small piece of cod. Big disappointment!

A couple of weeks ago we had friends in town, and we took them to Skylarks for dinner. We had not been there for years, but decided to give them a try since the weather was so nice and we wanted to sit outside. What a mistake. The food was so bland and unappealing I was embarrassed. Also, we had never spent anywhere near so much for such a bad meal. I have never written a review like this, but because of the expense I would like to think I've saved someone else from wasting their money like we did.

Wanted to eat outside since it was such a beautiful day. First: You now have to pay for parking in Fairhaven so I made a note of the parking space. But no! They want your license # not the space #. So had to trot back to my car, which is new to me, & memorize plate # for future use. Outdoor seating is pleasant & was not too busy. I am cutting slack for eating out now as I realize almost every place is understaffed. Was seated & busboy brought me menu & water. Only 2 people in her section altho she may have had inside tables. After 10 minutes I flagged her & she said she's be 'right with me'. Passed again 2 times. Finally I had to hunt her down & explained I had to make an appointment. Food came quickly but now I only had 15 minutes to wolf it down. As usual, (Why do I keep ordering it?!) coleslaw was TOTALLY tasteless. I picked the fish wrap because it had all the ingredients I love. Don't know where they were but this was also mostly tasteless. I also had to hunt her down to pay.

One of the best Reuben sandwiches I have had, hot and full of meat. The coleslaw that came with it was excellent, not creamy, not overly vinegary, very pleased. We were about one of the four tables that were in there at 7 pm Sunday night, I was surprised not more people were dining in there. We asked for front table to dine but were told that was saved for a party of 4, so we were put at another table with no view. No one showed to fill the table of 4, so it sat empty.

I had booked a reservation on the covered, heated patio as I am not comfortable eating inside restaurants. When we arrived we were told they were not serving outside that day. The other choice would be a table out on the sidewalk but it was just too cold. As my companion had driven 35 miles for this occasion, we decided to take our chances and eat inside. There were only two waitresses and the place filled up fast. Still, our waitress was extremely inattentive. It was nearly impossible to attract her attention if we needed something. The food arrived at room temperature and my fish was so overcooked that it fell into tiny flakes with no taste at all. Considering the prices, the food was of poor quality. Still, we were enjoying the wine and each other's company but we will not be back and we will not recommend it.

Service was amazing! (Thus the 2 stars.) Fries were good. Clam chowder ok. The rest of the food extremely disappointing. One entree sandwich consisted of dry meat and cheese that you would miss if you didn't deconstruct the entire thing. The burger came raw so we don't know what that tasted like. And the caesar salad was dry and flavorless. Sorry. Had high hope's from the great reviews but fell flat.

Terrible food, bad service. I had the French dip, way too salty and very overcooked and dry. My husband had the steak Oscar, crappy farmed crab and the bernaise sauce had separated. We got the check before we were finished eating, no asking about desert or coffee. It’s that kind of place.

Lots of potential, but hit and miss. And pack your patience... service was extremely slow. Our server was very friendly and knowledgeable. We weren't in a hurry, so it was okay. Drinks were good, risotto with grilled chicken was yummy. People rave about the Rueben, which was good, but not rave worthy. The Chocolate Decadence, with raspberry sauce and fresh whip cream, (a favorate of mine) was really good, but not the best I've had. Table next to us warned against the seafood linguine, saying the sauce was runny and didn't taste right. Even the asparagus was inconsistent between two plates. We celebrated Mother's Day and a birthday here yesterday. Glad we made a reservation. Lots of people turned away, despite lots of open tables. (Covid, short staffing...??) Had been wanting to try this place, and LOVE Fairhaven. I was uncertain what our experience would be due to changing owners in recent years. We finished other activies early, so tried to be seated early. They said they were booked up, so we took a walk to Blvd Park to pass the time. Once seated, it took a long time for our server to greet us, take our order, serve our food, and bring our check. They said the kitchen was backed up. And our server seemed overwhelmed. I think they may need more experienced management. This place has so much potential...great location, charming atmosphere, (some) great food. But they were turning away income, and missing the mark.
