The place is near nothing that would be a feeder to it - it's just so good folks have found it. I showed up on a Sunday morning about 9 am, and there was a line of people waiting to get in. The host (and...the rest of the staff) was dressed for Halloween (this is early October), and kept the atmosphere light. The décor is early progressive - posters for MeToo rallies, support for no new pipelines, and various LGBTQ causes, along with a letter complaining that the place serves cops (and a response that "we like cops, and try to connect them with the progressive element in town" - nice touch). I finally got a place at the bar, where I could watch the bearded cooks do their thing (We don't need no stinking hairnets!). I ordered the chicken fried steak, which came regular or "barnyard" - the usual breaded cutlet (excellent), with ham, bacon and sausage piled on top, and regular or Jalapeno Gravy. I got the barnyard with half and half gravy - the Jalapeno was outstanding and the regular was right up there. I ate it with great gusto, next to a frat rat on one side and tattooed hipsters on the other, all chatting amiably. Service was rushed but on the spot, and the people watching was outstanding. I haven't been in a place with such a friendly vibe in a long time, and I will definitely go back if I get another trip to Bellingham.More
