Note that only the items on the hand-written chalk boards are available; in other words, ignore the dishes displayed on the large screen set on the counter next to the register. The Carolina sandwich on the screen looked good, so I tried to order; I...was then told that this store is part of a chain and that THIS sandwich is not served at THIS location. We got takeout. FOOD: 3.5 - "Cypress" Quinoa Bowl: 3.5. She ordered this without the red onions; it was served with red onions, which took her 10 minutes to remove. She reported that the resulting dish was then quite good. - Tuna Melt: 3.5. Was able to get this, my third choice. Plenty of tuna. SERVICE: 3.5. Friendly but a bit off. In addition to the red onion issue in the preceding mention of the Quinoa Bowl, there were no utensils in our takeout order. (When the friendly server handed me the bag I asked if there were napkins; she answered affirmatively and indeed there were. I didn't think to ask if there were utensils for the salad.) AMBIANCE: 4.0. Though we got takeout the sit-down area appeared welcoming.More

The quality at this long time Bellingham favorite isn’t what it used to be. It’s been a while since I’ve had lunch here. I ordered what was one of my favorites, their cranberry turkey sandwich. What used to be real, quality turkey is now highly...processed bologna style turkey meat. Mystery meat at best. Well I understand inflation is affecting everybody, cutting corners on something as important as the main Ingredient in sandwiches is not the place to do it. So sad. I doubt I’ll be back.More

We stopped in after doing some shopping. The gal at the counter was super friendly. The sandwiches were made with home made bread--quite thick slices of bread served with potato chips. My roast beef sandwich was delicious.

I was looking forward to the fresh English muffin on this and was a bit disappointed. Nothing wrong with it, just soft with not much texture and didn't seem toasted. We had a Beast and a Popeye sandwich. The Beast was ok, the Popeye was...quite good. The sausage had nice flavor and the mustard was very nice. The spinach was a little watery and I probably would skip the onions if I did it again, but it was nice.More

Have to admit this place would be frequented more often if it was not a 6 hour drive from my house. Clean place and friendly staff. Food to die for. Curry cauliflower soup a real treat and sandwiches enormous and delicious. Two meals for one.

On a visit to see my daughter who lives in Bellingham, she was excited to share this dining spot with me and I can see why. Their sandwiches are amazing with perfect proportions - freshly made with their own in-house breads they also make. Sitting...outside with a view of the bay and surrounding neighborhoods also made for a pleasant dining experience - healthy eating + ambience. Get there early to buy their special breads if you want to make things at home because they sell out fast. Didn't try their soups as it was quite warm during my visit to WA. Will definitely return on future visits.More

If you love sandwiches, Avenue Bread should be a must stop. They have 4 locations and each one makes sure that the food is excellent. The downtown location is a great place to stop in and enjoy a great breakfast sandwich. The menu has many...delicious varieties or custom order whatever you want. The coffee is also pretty good. You can also buy some bread to take home. Also if you sit at the front window counter, it’s a great place to do some people watching.More

Tried this local bakery and cafe and was not disappointed. Prices were about average, not exceptionally overpriced but not cheap. The bread is handmade locally and is very delicious and substantial. I also ordered a bowl of soup which was very filling. Their sandwiches are...also massive.More

I've been to avenue bread many times over the years since they first appeared, and each time the prices are higher. I had my usual, the Tuna Melt. It's a nice sandwich, and on good bread. But when I was eating it, I realized it...was a $11 for a standard sized tuna sandwich with a tiny little bag of crumbled potato chips dumped into the basket.More

I love Avenue Bread because they make incredibly delicious sandwiches and soups. Recently the staff brought me the wrong sandwich, and I was treated with an unexpected new favorite, The Cuban. Looking at the ingredients I would have never ordered this sandwich, which would have...been my mistake. This sandwich is amazing! The soups are always great, especially the gumbo and the chicken with rice. If you want a great sandwich stop by Avenue Bread and you’ll be exceptionally satisfied.More

Avenue Bread & Café has fantastic breakfast sandwiches that are full of flavor and better than most others you'll find. All of their baked items are great and the coffee is quite good as well. The staff is super nice as well.

You order at the counter, menu overhead on chalkboard signs. They bring food to you. The people in my group all orderd something different: Vegetarian-style sandwhich, BLT, and an egg sandwich and soup. Everything was delicious! Their rosemary bread is to die for. A casual...cafe, with self- bussing of tables. They sell bakery items to take home with you. Oh, I should add there is no free parking nearby. So bring money for the meter. Be sure to visit the nearby shops.More

I ordered the Gourmet Turkey Sandwich which had turkey, provolone, sprouts, lettuce, onions, red pepper, & pesto-panini spread on French. Yummy. These folks make their own bread and that's a great starting point for a tasty, wholesome sandwich.
