Been going to this restaurant for many years. Prices have gone up / quality has gone down. Last night we had an appetizer, two entrees and a 1/2 carafe of wine. With tax and tip, the bill was $150. Pasta with the seafood dish was...stuck together. Tried to separate the pasta, with knife and fork, ended up leaving the blob of pasta on plate. My wife’s veal dish was excellent. Be prepared to pay 11.5% tax (state & local). We will not be back.More

Everything about this restaurant was amazing. Hostess and wait staff were very accommodating - the hostess even provided local winery ( including phone and address) suggestions. The food - lamb chops and veal entrees and zucchini blossoms stuffed with crab were delicious. Other guests were...even treated to a Happy Birthday serenade in Italian. Just wish I lived closer than Pittsburgh.More

We were pleasantly surprised at the restaurant. It has a feel of being in Italy because of the decor, the excellent food, the food choices, the incredibly friendly staff. Upon a recommendation we decided to try the restaurant. It was near our hotel. Violino is...a reason to stay overnight in Winchester, VA!More

Fantastic food and attentive staff. Loved sitting out in the courtyard. Everything we ate was delicious. Homemade pasta & specialty coffee drinks were our favorites.

What a wonderful evening! The menu was exciting - it offered a wide variety of tempting options. The staff was very welcoming...table visits by the owner family really made you feel welcomed. We had a wonderful supper meal with drinks and dessert. Couple this with...exceptional table service, and you have a dining experience you cannot miss!More

My first time at Violino's was a recent business dinner with a group of eight. We were greeted and seated promptly and courteously. Our orders for drinks were taken and quickly fulfilled. We were given an elaborate explanation of the specials, several of which we...ordered, along with an array of appetizers. The food (I had one of the excellent veal dishes) and wine (a selection of Italian reds), along with the attentive service, were appreciated by all of us in my group. My problem came with the dessert. Our waiter offered several, but especially touted the gelato made in house by his father (!). As an occasional traveler to Italy and a big fan of gelato, how could I choose otherwise? Unfortunately, the several flavors of gelato in my dish all tasted the same to me, and more critically, they had none of the light creaminess of Italian gelato. My three gelato balls tasted frozen and freezer burned, and they were icy, more like sorbet than gelato. That's the only reason my five-star review ended up as a 4.More

My wife and I took our middle son and his family for a December 23 family dinner. We all had something different and every single dish was great. Included in the dishes around the table were duck, ossobuco, lobster, fish stew, ravioli, cornish hens, and...a fish dish. We had calamari as an appetizer. Everything was absolutely delicious. The wait staff was on top of it and the ambiance was perfect. Couldn't recommend this place more.More

We were just travelling I-81 and stopped for the evening, looking for a nice restaurant to relax and enjoy a good meal. We found it! The Violino is owned and operated by an Italian family and was celebrating its 25th year. We helped them celebrate,...and enjoyed every bite! My wife got the salmon and she said it was excellent! I got the Costa alla Gorgonzola (angus beef steak) and it was delicious, in a tasty brown sauce. We paired it with some wine recommended by the staff. A thoroughly delightful meal and just what we were looking for after a day of travel. Reservations are recommended, but we were able to get a table as an early walk-in.More

Visited Violino late last month for two distinctly different reasons. First was a recommendation from family members who ate here years ago and second was after I read Ricardo's responses to some of the picky BS reviews on Trip Advisor, I knew he was passionate...about his cooking and his restuarant. We went to celebrate an anniversary and could not have been happier. Great setting, clean, comfortable, an incredibly friendly family based staff and delicious food! Delicious food included stuffed mushroom app and deboned cornish game hen for my wife and I had an incredible prosciutto sampler (duck, boar, beef and venison) along with a reasonably priced filet for an entree. Choose the filet instead of a pasta dish because it was reasonably priced and in most places it has gone through the roof. I was not disappointed! Everything was delicious and again the service was great...friendly enough that we eventually found out one of our servers was Ricardo's daughter and the host/manager was his sister! Great family run restaurant that I will visit again when in Winchester...almost stayed down south an extra day to try for a lunch stop on the way home but couldn't swing it! Only complaint I have is the small number of bread sticks! (Only kidding Ricardo...great job)!!!More

Decided to go here for a birthday dinner based on a horrible experience at Eddie Merlot. They knocked it out of the park. The mushroom appetizer, the filet, the veal and the tiramisu were all outstanding. This is now on our list of favorite restaurants.

This was an unexpectedly authentic Italian food surprise. The family owning the business is originally from the Venice area in Italy and they managed to re-create authentic Italian recipes that customers will appreciate and delightfully enjoy! Rare to find places like this in the US.

We were looking for a good restaurant with outdoor seating to celebrate a birthday. Violino seemed to be the only place that fit that description and our tastes. We tried it, and we are eager to go back next time we are in Winchester. We...only tried the specials—zucchini blossoms stuffed three ways, festival of ravioli (also three varieties with a poached pear), and a skewer of salmon, swordfish, and shrimp. Wow! The chef really enjoys cooking creative and mouthwatering dishes. Every dish was top notch. I know that some complain about the service. We like to linger over a celebration dinner, so the pace was fine for us, until we tried to get our check. Alas, many restaurants are going to have the same problem right now because of being understaffed. All the wait staff at Violino were great.More

A friend had recommended Violino and we were driving through Winchester so we had our chance to try it out! They have a darling outdoor seating area with a beautiful pink hydrangea at the entrance. We were not able to enjoy the outdoor area though...due to rain. The inside is very "old Italian" meaning dated and there was violin music playing constantly. We ordered bruschetta and it was way too salty for me. I've had loads of bruschetta both here and in Italy and I've never had to pass it up because of saltiness. My entree was a special - shrimp and asparagus risotto with scallops. It was beyond delicious!! My husband had a penne and chicken dish that he enjoyed. My passion is gelato so we ordered a cherry gelato and a strawberry gelato. The presentation was fabulous - with whipped creme and a cookie in a beautiful glass dish. The gelato was just a bit "grainy" and not as creamy and dreamy as gelato in Italy. This was not a restaurant I would race to get back to but I'd stop in for more risotto if I was in the area.More

maybe a little more than chain restaurants but you will receive excellent food and service. I've always found it to be higher cost for better food and wider menu selection.
