We just happened to stumble upon this restaurant and were very happy that we did. This was a very good experience right from the moment we entered. The staff was right on top of everything. My wife has dietary issues that can't be overlooked. When...our waiter (Ron) was asked about the salt content in some of the dishes he went above and beyond the norm to make sure all would be prepared properly. During the meal the Mgr. also came to the table to be sure we were totally satisfied with the preparation. The food was very good and the service was better than great. Highly recommend.More

My wife and I dined here recently during our annual Williamsburg trip. We have not eaten here before. However, trip advisor reviews and a friend recommendation influenced us to try it. 1. I understand the urge to turn tables, however the blatant large marking on...the table covering of the time that you have to leave is very unwelcoming. Our food was ok. I had a seafood trio. My crab cake was good, however it was a distant second to the wonderful one at Berrett's. My haddock was breaded. the actual fish filet was very thin(much thinner than the breading). I'm sorry. I wanted it to be a special meal.More

This was our first return to Williamsburg since the pandemic hit, and dinner our first night HAD to be at our favorite restaurant jn the Colonial Capital. First I have to caution potential customers at Food For Thought- save yourselves waits and MAKE A RESERVATION!...Everyone knows that because this landmark is always busy. Everyone needs to try Food For Thought at least once. The atmosphere is very welcoming. Much of the atmosphere includes various signs, pictures, posters, even books centered around the philosophy of Benjamin Franklin. Much of these materials may be purchased, as well as Tshirts. Now for the important part- the food! One of the specials was Fresh Local Fried Oysters- since my family includes my waterman great grandfather, I am very picky about oysters and especially how they are cooked. These were nice size oysters, tasty, and best of all- cooked perfectly. I also selected Mashed Sweet Potatoes (yes, you read right!) and fresh fruit. I am a seafood lover, and this was one of the very best seafood dinners ever. My wife ordered one her faves here- Pot Roast! This is one of Food For Thoughts’ Signature dishes. She also had Mashed Potatoes and Asparagus, and was very happy with her dinner. Unfortunately, we did not have room for dessert, but we know from experience that theif desserts are great. COVID-19 Note: Food For Thought has taken every step possible to make your visit safe and clean. Through cleansing is being done throughout. Distancing has also been maintained. If you prefer to not dine in an enclosed dining area, owner Howard has also erected a large festival design tent in the parking lot, with decorations and full service. Remember: Reserve your table by calling in to avoid waiting. And also please observe instructions about to park and not to park. You can park in an adjacent business parking lot If the main lot is full but make sure you do not park in the wrong lot. Enjoy sn excellent visit, great service, terrific food- and even philosophy by Ben Franklin!More

We had the pleasure of spending our 25th wedding anniversary dining at Food For Thought and were not disappointed. The service was exceptional, including the personal attention from the owner, Howard, to the exceptional server, Erica. Thank you for making this a special evening with...wonderful food in a lovely environment. We will definitely be back when we visit Williamsburg again.More

Hands down, the best restaurant in Williamsburg and our favorite. But unfortunately, as seniors, it is starting to get too expensive for us to eat there more than we would like.

We visited Williamsburg last week for the 1st time. Many sources touted Food For Thought as amazing. It was nice, but I couldn't call it spectacular. Things didn't start off on the best note. We made a reservation and arrived on time., When they placed...us in the bar to eat (we have 2 kids) we asked to move in the dining room, it seemed like a big inconvenience. I understand covid and the 1 hour and 10 min allotted for your meal, but I felt it was unnecessary to write it on your table in big letters. It sent the message, "Your lucky to be here." (at least to me.) Our waiter was excellent. Friendly, courteous and timely in all aspects. The food was fine. Not really the inventive signature dishes I expected. Pad Thai was the same pad Thai I've had anywhere else. Maybe my expectations were too high?More

We stop every year when we visit Williamsburg. This year was no different, even with COVID. They have strict rules in place, including waiting until you are called to enter the restaurant (we had reservations), and a posted dining time of no longer than 75...minutes. Your start time was actually recorded on your paper table cloth. Wait staff were masked, professional and prompt. The menu is varied and always very good. Please support this establishment. They are doing the right things.More

Great food. Gluten and dairy free items available. Thought provoking decor. Reasonable time limit set to minimize wait.

Family of 5 visited here for dinner. Menu had fewer choices than I expected, not sure if that was regular menu or Covid menu. I had the fried fish & chips; it was awesome. Hubby had the seafood platter & loved it, neither of us...could finish our meals. Son had the po’boy shrimp sandwich. He didn’t like the sauce, but the shrimp were huge! All of us, loved the fries.More

My daughter and I spent a week in Williamsburg and Food for Thought was on my list of restaurant recommendations. We were both so glad that we decided to eat there. The seafood dinners were fresh and tasty, service was outstanding and the restaurant did...a great job of adhering to social distancing restrictions. Next time we are in Williamsburg, we plan to go back there for breakfast. Yummy!More

No. They do however offer priority waitlist seating to a limited number of guests. It is important to note that even the waitlist seating does not mean that seating will be available upon your arrival.
