About
Food For Thought is a family restaurant in Williamsburg, Virginia, that's as engaging for the mind as it is for the senses. Surrounded by quotes and images of inventors, scientists, and social leaders, our atmosphere aims to inspire families and encourage discussion over wholesome, delicious food. Food For Thought's menu is as diverse as the great thinkers themselves. Our diner's choices vary from American classics, ethnic dishes, healthy vegetarian options, or one of our nightly seafood specialties. The foundation of our menu is built upon American staples like our famous Fork Tender Pot Roast, Grandma's Meatloaf, and "fall off the bones" ribs. America grew up on these meals, and we love paying

This was our second year travelling to the area and we wanted to be sure we went back to this restaurant. We were not disappointed because the food was as great as we remembered. The best bread pudding I have ever eaten.

Several years ago we ate in Food For Thought and it was so good we ate there twice in one week. This year it was just as good - service was wonderful, and the food was delicious. I had pad thai, one of their gluten-free...dishes, and my husband had fried chicken and mashed potatoes and gravy - sometime ya just want good food and this was it! We shared mussels as the appetizers: More goodness!More

The other reviews were right. The service was friendly, the meal was served in about 10 min. I had not finished my salad yet. Everything was to die for! The prices were fair for what you got.

The Food came so quick, and was so hot I swore they Microwaved it. (I was told that wasn't the case). Instead of writing your order and bringing it to the Kitchen, it's sent via tablet from your table to the Kitchen. Everything showed up...very quickly. I had started the evening off with a Jon Joyce Martini. Not something I normally do, but it sounded so good. I thought I'd finish that and follow it up with a Beer when Dinner arrived. Both I and the Waitress forgot the Beer. That's OK. My Pot Roast with Mashed Tators, Peas and Corn was like I was at a Relatives house. My wife said her Pistachio crusted Chicken, Mashed Tators and Broccoli all Tasted Great. Just not enough room for Desert. One more thing to Mention. Parking. The idiot next door doesn't allow patrons to park in his lot. That would be OK if there were businesses there that needed the space, but the place is Empty. We had to park over at Ripleys, and you know what, When I returned to my car, I almost decided to walk into Ripleys to check it out, but they were closing too soon to do so.More

A different experience to the usual chain restaurants at this price point. Family run, the owner came over to introduce himself and ask how are we were enjoying our meal. I had the meat loaf and my wife the pot roast, both were superb, great...taste and just the right amount of food on the plate. There are interesting cards on the table, questions on old court cases with the verdict on the back. A lovely experience that felt a cut above the rest.More

This is an interesting restaurant in business for years! Lots of choices for everyone and delicious food. I had the crab-a-bella which is a portobello mushroom filled with creamed spinach and topped with a crab cake. It was a great combination, fresh and delicious. My...husband had the half meatloaf and half pot roast with mashed potatoes. He was in heaven. We took home the bread pudding and it was just delicious. Our server was very friendly and pleasant. We only regret forgetting to buy the conversation cards, they're fun while you're waiting for your order.More

The food and service were so GOOD, that we ate here twice during our trip and tried to another night only to find they were closed that night. On one night I had a delicious reuniion-a combination of pot roast and meatloaf. Both were excellent....On the other ocassion I had a Lime mchicken entree which was very good whi8le my wife had the Hickory salmon which she said was excellent. Eric was our waiter, we could see he was taking care of numerous tables, but he kept right in touch with us to be sure everything was satisfactory. He did an outstanding job. The place was packed, a 30 minute wait and it was well worth it!!More

My wife and I always check TripAdvisor while traveling. We have been to Food for Thought twice. Tonight I had the crab—Bella. It was excellent crab, portobello, provolone with rice, spinach, and tomato. It was outstanding. My wife had the cilantro lime chicken from the...extensive gluten free menu. It also was excellent. The complementary yeast roll and cornbread were great. The service was excellent. We also love the thought provoking decor.More

This restaurant is on the main drag in the Williamsburg area. We went for dinner and the parking lot was packed, it was very hard to get a spot, although we did. We were seated in the bar area and a table/booth. The decor is...like an English pub. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and attentive. The dinner bread that comes with your meal is out of this world. There was a few varieties to choose from in the bread basket, one in particular was a sweet potato bread which was fantastic and unexpected! My meal was chicken with jasmine rice and it was extremely good. Everything about the meal was perfect. We now understand why the parking lot was so busy because this is a wonderful place to go in town for dinner. We would go back to this place in a heartbeat next time we are in the area.More

Great dinner different food even though I got the salmon it had a different glaze on it topped with a Waldorf salad and some butter lemon sauce it all worked together and was extremely tasty my wife had the nutty chicken it was a pistachio...crusted chicken breast. The food was all so fresh and came out hot. The owner even came over to our table and introduced himself and asked us if we needed anything. This is why you want to get there at 4:30 when they open for dinner. The place gets packed and it is because they have great food and great service. We ended our meal with home made bread pudding and crème brûlée they were both to die for. We were both stuffed but couldn’t pass up trying the desert. If your in town make sure you try this unique place out before you go. I guess all the weight I lost before our trip is going to be put right back on before we get home oh well this is called living.More
