This high-energy bistro took over as Williamsburg's best restaurant as soon as it opened in 2003. The sophisticated but relaxed dining room has an open kitchen, which uses fresh, local ingredients for its creative American fare. The dining bar and seasonal outdoor patio seating are on a first come basis. Reservations for the dining room are recommended and may be made up to 2 months in advance. Open daily for dinner, a hostess is available during the day to take reservations.

It's been nearly 5 years since we dined at The Fat Canary and it is still worthy of being rated the best restaurant in Williamsburg. Our party of four was treated most excellently. The menu, although not extensive, offers a nice variety. Our appetizer, salad...More

We came here for a special event. Our 40th anniversary. We left with less money, but a wonderful meal. I don't believe that any "soup of the day" should cost $14.00. And one shouldn't have to ask. And a glass of the "least expensive" chardonnay...More

Good night from beginning to end. Started with drink at the bar with very generous poor of Hennessey XO. Foie gras (albeit duck, not goose) was excellent and the fried oysters, though small, were well prepped. Entrees were generous and very, very good as were...More

The fat canary is one of the iconic restaurants in Colonial Williamsburg with a great reputation and it lived up to its name. We were seated at our reservation time (very necessary as ti was Christmas week). We were greeted promptly and graciously. Our waiter...More

The Fat Canary is much more than it appears. Excellent food at a good price and very helpful wait-staff. In the many times I have been there during the holiday season, I have never seen an empty table. They also have a great wine selection.

Our usual restaurant for our wedding anniversary celebration was booked so we took a chance here. Was not disappointed. The Rapahannock oysters were my favorite. The foie gras, our other appetizer, was also delicious but I felt the flavor was slightly overpowered by the blackberry...More

We had a lovely "adult" dinner here on Sunday night. The food was spot on for the first three courses. We had the fried oysters (6) which was the perfect amount to share. Then we shared the romaine with garlic dressing - somewhat like a...More

Wow, what a great first visit on Monday 25 November. Good food, wine, and service. We started with the ahi appetizer which was tremendous. Then, i had the special, which was grouper over a green Chile risotto with shrimp. My wife had the scallops. Both...More

Fat Canary is an exceptional restaurant - and will offer you a variety of options. Anything you select will meet the highest standards. It is not a steakhouse - I’m in Bangalore and jet lagged. My last response was confusing. More

That's odd, I have been to Fat Canary 3 times and each time our special occasion was recognized.
