Marrying bottles of wine: Basement bar tender is engaging in dubious practices of marrying wine from two different bottles. Big no no for a nice wine establishment as this.

My wife and I ate downstairs at the bar but ordered dinner from the "upstairs" menu. Service was very good, drinks were great. Our entrees were excellently prepared. My wife ordered the tenderloin rare, and it was perfect for her. I ordered the pork chop,...and it was as well. We had the $22 lobster fettuccini appetizer, and that was sort of tiny, and not very tasty. Quite expensive, but at least the experience and the product were great.More

My wife and I have been to Williamsburg many times and have always wanted to try Fat Canary. This visit we did. Wow!! What a wonderful experience. We had a reservation for two at 7:15. We arrived a few minutes early and seated right away....Our server was Will and he was very polite. He took our drink orders and told us the specials for the day. We started off with the Manakintowne greens and peaches salad. So delicious. The goat cheese was unbelievable. For the main course. My wife ordered the grilled beef tenderloin and I ordered the special which was the Rockfish. For dessert, my wife ordered the corn ice cream and I had the blackberry shortcake. So glad we decided the dine at Fat Canary. I walked over to the kitchen and thanked Chef Tom and his staff for preparing a wonderful meal. We will definitely go back.More

We really enjoyed this! We sat at the bar in the basement, but it was so quaint. The food was fantastic and we had great service. It was busy!! Get there right at opening to snag a table or be prepared to wait. Our daughter...loved joining us (pre-teen) and felt special sitting at the bar with us though we would've preferred a table it was a great experience.More

I had an AMAZING dinner at fat canary. The food was so flavorful, and the plating was beautiful. All of the servers were angels, especially Andrew the waterboy.

First of all we have eaten at this establishment on many trips to Colonial Williamsburg and have had great experiences. This is why I was so surprised on this trip. When we asked our waitress Mazen if some chicken could be added to a Manakintowne...Greens salad she said there would be no problem. There was chicken added as requested. It was not an overly large portion but adequate. The food was very good overall. Much to my surprise, when I received the bill I had been charged $30 for the added chicken to the salad of $12. $30 is the cost of the complete entree of "Free-Range Chicken Breast, Charred Scallion Grit Cake, Andouille Sausage, Creole Tomatoes, Roasted Green Chilis". When I questioned Mazen about it she said this was what they do. When I questioned that this was not normally what is done, she said she could do nothing about it. I should have asked to see the manager at this point but I chose not to make a scene, paid the bill and left. I probably will not return and will let others know regarding this situation.More

I guess it’s redundant here to say that dinner last night at Fat Canary was one of the most memorable of my life — and this from someone who plans her travel around where she can get a reservation for dinner — but it was...one of the best ever. Lovely ambiance, superb service, stunning food. Just wish it wasn’t a 600-mile drive from my house! I asked the bartender to concoct something without alcohol and was served a gorgeous blackberry-and-tonic mix. Followed that with the fresh mozzarella/tomatoes/pesto/Virginia ham, which sounds dull but definitely exceeded the norm, and then the foie gras with hazelnut biscuit, chopped hazelnut and blackberry glaze — absolutely the best foie gras I’ve ever tasted. Ended with the blackberrry shortcake — cream cheese frosting, white chocolate ganache. Husband’s Caesar salad and scallops with white bean cassoulet, braised leeks and pancetta also exceptional. So amazing - - guess we’ll need to plan another trip to Wlliamsburg. Or we can hope that one of the grands decides on William and Mary someday?More

The bistro downstairs doesn’t take reservations - the soft shell crabs may have been the best soft shells I have ever eaten IN MY LIFE. The Bolognese was incredible too.

The street level restaurant seemed very lovely but we needed a quick bite and went went downstairs for a great atmosphere and delicious food... miso broth with salmon and tuna tempura. Macadamia pie should be everyone's last meal. It was ridiculously good.
