You wait in line to place your sandwich order, then wait again for it to be prepared, then wait again to pay. But the lines move along quickly as they are very organized. The rye bread was tasty, the turkey was plentiful, but skimpy on...the ham and cheese. Considering it is the CHEESE Shop, we expected the cheese to cover the meat. Lots of college students were eating here as the prices are reasonable.More

The food here is excellent but I waited 20 minutes to place my order and another 40 to get one sandwich. The lady at the counter seemed disinterested and not engaged with her customers. This is always a favorite place but fell quite short on...this visit.More

The sandwich hit the spot. You are paying for the tourist area, but nice atmosphere in the square. Place is must to go in and enjoy it!

More bread than meat - not much mass in that foil wrapping. Might as well add another $2 or $3 to the price and give customers something to remember - be an eating spot people seek out rather than drop by in

Staff is super friendly and as quick as they could be despite being short staffed and super busy. The layout is very small and cramped. It is nice that you can buy cheese and wine while waiting for your sandwich

Like many other spots around colonial Williamsburg The Cheese Shop is NOT open every day of the week so check online and even call ahead. We stopped in around 5pm on a Tuesday evening. We walked around the Marketplace shops, pulled up a table outside...and took turns going in to order. If you want a sandwich you march all the way to the back of the shop and order off the menu. Pick your combination of meat, cheese, and bread and they give you a ticket and a basket. While you wait you can shop or add chips and drinks (from the cooler). There was little wait on this particular Tuesday so we got our meals and quickly checked out. TIP - One side of the registers doesn't take cash and they are very strict about it. Eating outside was a real treat. We even got to talk to one of the employees who told us stories about the local college kids coming over to buy all sorts of food. The sandwiches were high quality and reasonably priced for what we got. I'm not sure how gourmet the cheese is, but we would definitely return for the sandwiches.More

We had heard it was a great sandwich shop so we waited in the extremely long lines in their beautiful shop. The menu is huge but all 5 of us were very unimpressed with the food. While it seemed fresh it was truly the most...disappointing meal I've eaten. Just a blah sandwich that was like a snack and not a meal. Very pricey for what we actual received. Now if you want great Sandwich Shops go to Bar Harbor Maine they know how to make their customers happy and full. I feel bad saying this because The Cheese Shop was so beautiful. . Fun to walk around in.More

I was disappointed that the stale French bread detracted from what otherwise would have been a good ham/turkey sandwich.

Great, delicious sandwiches and prices are pretty reasonable. It is pretty crowded in the shop during the summer.

There's a huge selection of different meats, cheeses, jams, jellies, sauces, drinks, pasta, and many other things to choose from. It's definitely on the more expensive side, but it's worth a look and a browse.

you can absolutely purchase a bottle of wine from the downstairs portion of the cheese shop. And you can share the bottle either inside or outside at the appropriate areas to sit down and drink or eat. i hope this helps .
