During a very sultry July week in Williamsburg, we enjoyed a nice respite in the lower level of shields. The food was the same as served in other establishments, not bad, but not delicious. While most of those with whom we had contact in Williamsburg were wonderful, our server in Shields was a tad surly.

Let me say the good thing about Shields to put this in context...There is NOTHING to eat or drink in Colonial Williamsburg in terms of snack food. Would it kill them to put up a coffee kiosk somewhere where you could have a snack? Especially during spring break week which was very busy. We went to the bakery which is... More

Really enjoyed this place. We really wanted to get in out of the heat. Glad we did. My husband and I both had a roast beef and Swiss dip. It was excellent. Of course everyone was dressed in period attire. Had a gentleman giving lesson on proper greetings. " bowing and courtesy ". Informative and fun.

Good food in the Williamsburg colonial style. The food was good. The cellar was where they served us, nice to get out of the heat of the day into a cool place to eat.

This place is fun and tasty. We started with refreshing cocktails: Pimm's Cup, Rummer, and Shield's Punch, which were refreshing and tasty. For lunch we had the Tarragon Chicken sandwich, Apple Salat, and Salamagundi which were fresh and tasty. The staff is dressed in period clothing and work in character, which adds to the experience. We had a musician visit... More

There are several taverns in Williamsburg. I would suggest trying one of them because Shields Tavern was not that great. First of all, they messed up many aspects of our group reservation i.e. Number of people, time, entertainment option, etc. Anyway, food was not that great. We had 12 people in our group and I heard no one raving about... More

We had dinner here on our first night in Williamsburg after touring the Colonial city. There are actors who tell stories, musicians, and the staff is in Colonial dress. The food was very good and even the wine was good with dinner. Reservations are necessary for dinner but a good establishment with local flavor. I will return here for another... More

The Lyfe of a Jolly Pyrate.....this is the dinner show. The 4 Travelin Buddies went to the Shields Tavern show. This is in the basement of the Shields Tavern and serves a set menu of the Pot Roast, unless you ask for something else- grandson got chicken fingers-. Food was very good. Price is very reasonable and the show is... More

Shield's serves both Lunch and Dinner within Colonial Williamsburg. Reservations were not needed for lunch on the day we were there. It does offer a varied menu and a cool place in the middle of the day to rest and regenerate for a bit more of sightseeing. The Seafood Gumbo, was delicious and spicy as was to be expected. The...
