We stayed the weekend for my birthday. Great restaurant in an equally elegant and wonderful hotel. The staff has been wonderful and accommodating. They were renovating the Tavern but still managed to find us seats for lunch in the restaurant without reservations. The food is...great, haven’t found anything that we haven’t absolutely loved, and the onsite winery is just an added bonus! Food is great, wine is exquisite and service phenomenal! Definitely recommend as a place to visit for that special time together!More

The Cafe Provencal is the restaurant associated with the winery just outside of Williamsburg. It was a little tricky to find with our GPS as it was leading us away from the restaurant to the winery so we need to call the place and be...guided. This was our Christmas eve dinner so we dressed (still no jacket or tie), and the setting was lovely. The room we were in was very romantic room. Of course, the wine selection was terrific and the server guided us through the selections. The wines from the winery are cheaper by the bottle there than at nearby restaurants, so buy accordingly. I liked that we could order from the menu (not a pre selected Christmas menu like some of the places we called). There were three of us and we shared appetizers: the cheese and charcuterie board and the clams and old bay sausage. I found the clams tastier than the charcuterie - but after all, charcuterie is cured meat and cheeses, something I had eaten before! One of us had the fish special - done perfectly; one of us had the scallops, again done perfectly. I ordered the chicken roulade with tagliatelle pasta. I was a little disappointed that the chicken was slightly overdone and the the tagliatelle was salty - the flavors were tasty though. We skipped dessert that evening, because we were full. Again it was a pricey evening, but less than 100 per person. Worth the drive outside Williamsburg (15 minutes)More

We are most grateful for your comments and are sorry about the issue of finding us in the darl. This is an area that we are currently working on addressing.

We have eaten at the Cafe Provençal during previous stays at the Hotel Wedmore. The menu offers ample choices and we have never been disappointed. We selected the Goat Cheese Galette as an appetizer and it was knock your socks off scrumptious! Portions just right....Our main course was Diver Scallops with Fried Pork Belly. Sounds like an odd combinations but it was fabulous. The only thing we were not wild about was the Lemon Sabayan sauce..it had a touch of sweetness and we are both averse to sweet sauces on a main course. The appetizer and entree were artificially presented and had eye Appel as well as tastebud satisfaction. We selected a Spanish Albariño which was dry and flinty and perfectly complemented the seafood entree. Too full for dessert, so cannot comment but the selection is great. Worth the price!More

Cafe Provencal has found its market, it sells the best food, best service, excellent value to a small clientele. This is not a mass market restaurant turning tables every 45 minutes, it is a dining experience to be savored and enjoyed. Many fantastic wine from...the vineyard as well as a selection of other fine wines. Always good, we will be back.More

Four of us went here mid week. My wife and I were thanking the other couple for all their help as we moved to Williamsburg - a big deal for us. Overall a let down. Not busy, just one other table occupied at 6:30, yet...we were asked to delay our arrival and sit for cocktails in "the library"- it is off season. Apps were very tiny - a couple of us had the butternut squash "soup" - it was two spoons of a non soup paste. Hardly worth calling a portion of anything. We had four different mains which were good but not served as hot as they should have been - again - not busy; nor of a serving size that was worth the price. Service was attentive. We had the house Williamsburg Winery wine which was served at the on site store retail price. After having breakfast here in June I was disappointed with dinner and won't go back.More

Wanted to try someplace new for a birthday celebration and happened upon Cafe Provencal. First, the signage is nonexistent once inside the hotel. We parked ourselves and walked into the hotel, not a sign or member of staff was in the lobby so luckily ran...into a guest staying there who directed us to the restaurant. Once inside the restaurant we were seated immediately and given the wine list, no cocktail list, beer, cider etc when we inquired we were told we could have basic drinks? Ordered wine and perused the menu. We received our wine and bread. We were told the bread was homemade but it was awful, multigrain, gritty, and not even warm. The food overall was very good from the charcuterie tray and goat cheese galette to lamb and steak. The menu is very limited and there were no specials. For dessert I had the chocolate sphere which was had a hard thick shell which made it difficult to eat and he had a special presentation of cake pops with a candle, nice touch...the cake pops should be on the menu! Cappuccino was good but seriously only 3 desserts to choose from not even a sorbet or ice cream choice was limiting. My main issue was service from no one to greet us in the lobby to the poor woman working in the restaurant. This 1 woman was the hostess, waitress, sommelier, runner, bus girl and possibly bartender! While only 4 tables were occupied the entire time we were there, service was slow as we were there about 2.5 hours. We tipped well because she was very professional, pleasant and helpful and lack of staff is not her fault. We will never be back, obviously this establishment does not care about their employees or clientele.More

We have been to Cafe Provencal a number of times and had very god experiences however our last visit was very disappointing. They were expecting a liquor delivery and were out of top shelf gin which I find hard ti believe. I had the rack...of lamb which was fine but the other three people I was with thought their food could have been better. The night was saved by a excellent desert. Every restaurant has an off night and we will go back but not immediately.More

We have dined at Cafe Provençal on several occasions and have been happy with their service and quality of the food. This past experience, sadly, was not as good. The service was spotty. The bar was out of or running low on basic liquors, and...the quality and taste of the mains were sadly lacking. To compound matters, the food came out like warm. Okay, I understand we were just coming off the Labor Day weekend, but really, there is no excuse for running out if supplies, lukewarm food, or spotty service. As I recall, the waiters and staff are always very well put out here, but during our visit the waiter looked as though he just crawled out of bed and the hostess was dressed like a McDonald’s manager. They can do better and have in the past. It’s a shame, really, as we were looking forward to a First Class experience and we came away having an economy plus one.More

We were visiting from out of town and the cafe had gotten really good reviews so i wanted to try it. We never got a chance to celebrate our anniversary months ago, so this was our belated celebration. The waitress ( Also bartender) treated us...a a glass of wine & coffee to enjoy & relax as we were early for dinner, which was very nice of her. My husband ordered the scallops, which was one of the staple signature dishes she recommended. Oh my gosh. We have NEVER had scallops cooked to such perfection that they literally melted in your mouth. Mixed with this wonderfully seasoned black rice that i think was made with coconut milk (? Unsure, guessing) and crispy pork belly slice under each scallop was outstanding to say the least. I got the lamp chops which were very very good as well, cooked perfectly. It came with risotto & peas. It was delicious but thankfully my husband didn’t mind sharing his exquisite scallops so we each had some of both dishes, because I’m telling you, if you even just LIKE scallops you HAVE TO order them and then I promise you will then LOVE them!!! The waitress then treated us w anniversary dessert of 3 cake pops which were very sweet, but tasty & we also tried the chocolate mouse something or other which we both thought was better. All in all it was a wonderful, special evening to celebrate our Anniversary... and our taste buds. If we lived more local, we would make that restaurant an annual anniversary date. Can’t say enough of how good the food was & presentation was beautiful on both dishes. Chef needs to be commended!More

We enjoyed our dinner at Cafe Provençal. The charcuterie board is a must. The pairings were delightful. Our server said the charcuterie board is ever-changing. I can definitely recommend the filet. Cooked perfectly. The pork tenderloin was a bit disappointing due to the size. Flavor...was fantastic, but it was about the size of a medium-sized rib, with very few sides to make up for it. Dessert was delicious. Our server was great. We definitely look forward to going back.More

The restaurant does not have a formal dress code, but you will probably be most comfortable in business casual or "fancy casual" - i.e. a collared shirt and slacks for men, slacks or a skirt for ladies. That said, we do... More
