When we visited Williamsburg recently, we couldn't figure out where we wanted to get dinner. As the day turned into evening, we had to make a decision, and based on other reviews chose Old City. We'd planned to eat outdoors because of COVID, but it...rained and that was not an option. Fortunately, it was a Tuesday night and the place wasn't filled wall-to--wall and we just gave in. We are glad we did. After a short wait, my family of three (inc.1 child) was seated in a spacious booth and our server came right over. Unfortunately, I don't recall her name, but she was friendly and helpful even though the place was set to close in maybe an hour. The child had kept it simple with something off the kids' menu. My wife and I started with fried green tomatoes (a favorite of ours that must be ordered when it's on the menu). Unlike other places, Old Town dredged theirs in corn meal. Also, the cook must have been keeping an eye on them. They arrive hot and golden brown and not dripping with oil, as we've had elsewhere. Somehow, these fried fruit slices were light and crispy, so that was a win. We both ordered the brisket sandwich. No regrets. On my first bit my eyes got wide and then rolled back because the meat was so amazingly delicious. This was a sandwich I didn't want to end, as we each left out plates clean of anything that could be salvaged. We ordered a slice of chocolate pie and the brown butter bourbon pecan pie. Of the two, the chocolate pie was superior. My wife was disappointed by the pecan pie. Flavor was not strong enough, I think. For those who partake, the restaurant has an ample beer list, as well.More
We ate there the two nights we spent in Williamsburg. The food was absolutely delicious. The meat was cooked and seasoned to perfection. Good side choices. Great service
We entered Old City Barbecue at about 40% capacity. There was waitstaff actively moving about the dining room. None of them came to us for about 5 minutes. I was about ready to walk out before a server finally addressed us. So based on online...reviews, this was the go-to place for barbecue. We had just spent the day at Busch Gardens and it was nearby. There were some hits and some misses. My wife's pulled pork tacos seemed to be a hit (she ate them quite quickly). They have some ala carte options that can double as a kid's meal and they do have a good kid's menu. I got three the three-meat entree with pork belly, brisket, and ribs (2 bones). All good, but I've had better. We also noticed the table next to us had cornbread brought to them (which was not part of any entree that we had ordered). It looked good enough and we ordered a couple of pieces. Bad decision as it was way too dry and was actually crunchy.More
Food was very good. We got chicken wings & salad. Loved the pecan pie!! Collard greens was little too spicy for me, but husband loved it
Delicious smoked brisket and st. Louis ribs. Best part of meal was the banana bread pudding. The baked beans and cornbread were great sides
Tried this restaurant on the recommendation from a friend. Wasn’t really what we were expecting. Service was excellent, food was so-so at best. Bar-b-que was eh, my brisket was 75-80% fat. Red onions in the slaw completely overpowered everything else mixed in. Told my wife...on the way out, it’s bad when you can cook much better barbecue and brisket at home.More
Got the pulled pork platter that comes with a half pound of meat, two sides and some pickles. Pulled pork itself is pretty good but was a little dry, definitely need to spruce it up with any of the sauces they provide. Wasn't a huge...fan of the cornbread but the mac and cheese and beans were very good. The fried brussels sprouts are also extremely tasty for an appetizer although I gotta say they're a bit pricey at 10 dollars. Overall it's a bit on the higher end side for a student like myself, but very good eats nonetheless.More
As soon as we walked in, we felt like we belonged there. It's almost a weird thing to say for a restaurant, but it's true. The hostess was really nice and bubbly. She made sure that we were seated comfortably. Our waitress, Elyissa, was so...amazing. She really took the time (we ate a little early for dinner, they did fill up pretty quick) to talk to us and find out where we were from. She even asked if we had good BBQ where we were from, sadly no, but we do enjoy it when we travel. She promised us that we would enjoy this place. Boy, did we ever! The ribs literally fell off the bone. The pulled pork was some of the best my sons had ever tried. They really enjoy some pulled pork, but are usually disappointed, so this was a really big deal. The brisket was the best that my husband has ever had. I was a little more adventurous for our family and tried the pork belly. it was a little like bacon, but like really thick, juicy, fatty, delicious, extra bacon. We really enjoyed the sauces that they had, I didn't need a lot, but it was tasty. I really enjoyed having the assortment of pickles and pickled onions on the plate. It was nice to try a few different flavor combos. Also, thank you Elyissa for all of your recommendations!More
The food was so good. Ribs were top notch. I was not a fan of the chopped chicken, but that was preference not taste. The pork belly was definitely not what we were use to, but the waitress did tell us it was like bacon....The Mac and cheese was over the top. Loved it. I also enjoyed the pickles on the plate. There were several varieties and just brought the meal all together.More
We were very excited to try a new bbq Restaurant and the ratings were solid. The issue started in the parking lot which was dangerous because cars were not actually using the parking spots. Typically a busy lot is a good sign, so I let...this slide. The restaurant was packed so we decided to get a to go order. We ordered a 3 meat combo extr fries and extra cornbread. We asked for paper plates and utensils as well as sauce, which was not offered to us until we asked. We waited about 20 minutes which was acceptable but other families ordered after us and got their food before us. Then we opened the food. The cornbread was burnt, fries 1/2 cooked, the brisket was so fatty I could not eat it. And it looks like we might have received a kids portion of the pork. The pork was good, but we ordered expecting that we would have enough for at least 2-3. Not even close! I don’t enjoy writing this as I know restaurants are struggling with staffing and supply chain, but this was not acceptable.More
We got the sample plate of BBQ and it was all delicious. Our group of 16 had no trouble getting a table. We would go here again.
Had a great experience here. Amazing food and great service. Tried the Brisket Dip sandwich, wings and green verde tacos were 10/10!!

By far the best barbecue in town. Generous potion of pulled pork barbecue on my sandwich topped with slaw, and of course a choice of sauce. Sides of collard greens and sweet potato fries were outstanding. Highlight of our evening was our server, Grace. Despite...handling several tables, she didn’t miss a beat. Any request we had was met quickly and with a smile. Great evening with friends, one of whom had never had collard greens (he’s a “northerner”), but discovered he liked them. If you’re in Williamsburg, don’t forget to check this place out!More
