We were not so impressed with this restaurant. We ask how much the flounder special was and first waitress said about 24.99ish she thought. Second waitress appeared to take our order and she told us around $20. We all said we will take that. It...ended up being the much higher place and it was ok. Not the best we had had on shore line. Onion rings I believe were beer battered, kinda greasy. Just not impressed for the cost of the meal. Nice view out the window was the highlight.More

Decided to drive the 5 miles off 13 to get there. We had the best oysters Rockafeller that we have ever had, orded a second order for desert. The clams in garlic and wine sauce was sheer perfection. Wachapreague is the Flounder capital of the...world so we both had the most perfect flounder ever. The hostess was very cold but we stayed anyway. she was gone for 10 minutes working on a to-go oreder and didn't apologise or even welcome us. She just said, "only 2" in a very disappointed way. She did give us a waterview table. Stacy our server was super attentive and efficient.More

My wife and I happen-chanced upon the Island House while antiquing on the Eastern Shore. We were very pleased with our experience there. The service staff were all friendly and hard-working. The food was quite good. My blackened chicken wedge salad was excellent - with...plenty of blackened chicken for the price. My wife had a chicken and crab sandwich, where the crab was excellent but the chicken dry. It was such a pleasant lunch overlooking the shoreline, marshes and barrier islands. Would definitely recommend.More

We were traveling for our honeymoon when we came across this gem. Waterfront seating. The waitress recommended the flounder. She said it was the best in the United States. We ordered it and she was right. The best!

A little extra research and a little extra driving off the main drag Hwy. 13 leads to the best places. Hot crab dip with french baguette slices was perfection. Tempura shrimp with horseradish dipping sauce was outstanding too. Service was fast and polite. We called...thirty minutes ahead of time for a reservation on Tuesday night and glad we did. They filled up fast. Views of boats, docks and egrets made for a great meal all the way around.More

My husband and I decided at the last minute to have dinner at the Island House Restaurant. I made a quick reservation (necessary on a Tuesday night!) and we were seated immediately upon arrival. I ordered the broiled sea scallops, and my husband had the...Chicken Bruschetta. Both meals were excellent. The scallops were sweet and tender, served with fresh green beans, a side salad and wonderful sweet potato biscuits. The chicken was tender and smothered in a delicious bruschetta sauce. The food was only surpassed by the excellent service! This restaurant is a bit off the beaten path, but well worth the drive. Don't miss it if you're anywhere on the Eastern Shore of Virginia!More

Delicious seafood with a great view of marsh. Sweet potato biscuits are an excellent start, salads were fresh and crisp and seafood fresh. Fried flounder was nice and lightly battered. Recommend for both view and food on an Eastern Shore visit.

Stopped on our way down to NC and loved it so much we stopped on our way back! The first time they had a crab bisque that was to die for (please can I have recipe!) We had oysters raw and fried that were so...tender, burgers that were perfectly made and fries that were so crunchy. Sweet tea was perfect as was deserts. I wish I brought home some of Becca’s blueberry island cake. But would really like that soup recipe! Will definitely go back if I’m ever down that way againMore

However, if the oysters or flounder served on the sandwiches were tasty, it was lost in the stale buns. Seafood served on dry buns accompanied with 1 piece lettuce and a thin slice of tomato. No cocktail or tarter sauce. We complained. Their response “...we’re sorry, we won’t serve the sandwiches this way again as they handed us the bill. What about the quality of our meal? No answer. I so want to give a better review, but can't do it in good conscience. We have been stopping here for about 15 years on our way from Connecticut to the Outer Banks, and we love the marshy, watery off-the-beaten-track setting and the simple, fresh...seafood. The prices have sky-rocketed, and OK, I won't blame them for that these days, but the food was really just average. $24 for one bland crab cake? My broiled scallops ($32) were such an odd texture and color that I wondered if they had gone under the broiler from frozen. To be fair, my husband did say that his fried flounder was fresh and delicious, so maybe I just ordered the wrong thing, but at those prices everything should be great. We would still go back again because this is a special place, but we might sit at the bar and order appetizers and beers instead.More
