This is a great Fish restaurant. We went on a tuesday night at 5pm. The service was prompt, the staff excellent and[practicing appropriate COVID restrictions. This was by far the best restaurant that we ate in. We had the Ninja ginger martini and pink viagra martini both excellent. I had a Goat Cheese Beets, Garlic, Tomato, Apple Raspberry Sauce, House Baked Bread appetizer and the scallops Barca. The bread board was awesome and the scallops were perfectly cooked. My wife had the flounder in a bag and the fish was moist and tasty. Overall an excellent dinner experience.

You'd expect a restaurant just off the beach to be a tourist trap, but Tautog's is far from that! We have been here multiple times, and it is our go-to place now when in the area. Atmosphere is friendly without being pretensions, servers are both friendly and knowledgeable and make the evening special. The food is always the best, fresh and flavorful and cooked to perfection.
Tonight we enjoyed the daily specials: Salmon carpaccio, flounder with back-fin crab and bacon risotto and Cajun swordfish with crawfish et. al. All were luscious! (Being an ex-Texan, I was a little disappointed in the spice level of the crawfish, but the chef provided some additional pepper blend seasoning to 'kick it up'.)
Some treats that you shouldn't miss of the regular menu include the flounder in paper bag and the scallops. So far, haven't had a bad meal here!

We ate here the first night of our family vacation. The atmosphere of the restaurant is quaint and different than a larger chain restaurant. We waited about 25 minutes for a table for four. The appetizers were delicious. The main dishes were well prepared and tested good but there was just a little something missing from a true 5 star rating. Also, it would be good to see some smaller portions for the kids but we knew it wasn’t a place that caters to kids.

As a patron of this restaurant for many years, I was shocked to walk in and be advised that reservations were needed. The website indicated that limited reservations were being accepted but did not advise that we would be turned away. The young lady advised that this was Covid protocol and offered no other options. We were a party of 2 trying to get seated at 8pm. Hard to believe that a table for 2 could not be found when there were empty tables in the front. Unhappy customer of 15 years.

Would have left a little better review, because the atmosphere is very nice. Our waitress (Sarah) was extremely rude. There was 4 of us. And we visited at dinner time. My husband ordered a full meal, but because the rest of us weren’t very hungry, we only ordered soup and salads. Our waitress literally wrinkled up the menus and walked away. The rest of our interacts with her continued to be very rude! When she came back to check on us. My daughter wanted a refill, but was just about to take a sip. The waitress literally rip the cup out of her hand. The food was ok.
Final rating... we won’t be back!

Tautog’s ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Restaurant, Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA
The restaurant is named for a local fish also known as a black fish. There is outside, patio, porch and indoor seating in this 1920s former beach cottage restaurant which gives you a different feel and atmosphere which ever section you are seated. Their specialty is 100% in seafood, so if you looking for a nicer restaurant and want seafood, you’ll be able to find something here. Plenty of staff and everyone is attentive. One block off the beach on 23rd.

Saturday night, getting late, not sure where to go, street parking nonexistent...we pulled into the restaurant's parking lot and headed in. We began to worry when looking at the menu as I have a non-seafood eating husband.
Not to worry, our server, Sarah recommended the brisket tacos for an appetizer and he chose a Greek salad with chicken for his entrée. Sarah was able to snag him some jalapeño cheese grits as a side and they were absolute heaven on a spoon. I had crab cakes, they were good and the tartar sauce was even better. Definitely check this place out when in VB. Staff was attentive, food was out quick and Sarah took great care of us.

This restaurant was a little fancy for me--I wanted more options like fried shrimp. The server was great and a kind employee waited for us outside to help us figure out where to park because streets around it were closed down. Overall, it was a nice place, but it's just not my type of food.

We first found Tautog’s in 2017. And now every VA beach trip, we have to eat there. The food is still delicious and the service is still very friendly and welcoming. I still love the she crab soup, and the rest of my group enjoyed what they had (crab legs, tilapia au gratin, tuna Martinique, salmon salad, and the crab cake sandwich).
They didn’t used to take reservations, but now they do. So call ahead and make your reservation, so you won’t be left scrambling trying to find a place to eat dinner. Or come at 5pm when they open on the remote chance that there might be open tables outside. We were very lucky. We came at 5pm thinking that reservations weren’t accepted, and it was first come first serve. We wanted to eat under the covered porch, but all the tables were reserved. They did, however, have one spot outside that could accommodate my group.

We visited 3 years ago and just had to go back. Even in the strange times we find ourselves living in, the folks at Tautog's welcome you with socially distant open arms. Indoor & outdoor seating are available and we opted to sit outside. David took great care of us and made some awesome recommendations. Starting off with Corby's Original Crab Dip and cocktails led into a awesome dinner. The pace of the service is excellent and David took excellent care during our visit. His recommendation on the stuffed flounder was spot on and delicious. Don't miss this spot when you visit the beach!

Everything about Tautog’s is superb. The environment of a 1920’s house provides an inviting atmosphere. Locals go there often and the staff, who all look like they really want to be there, know their regulars. And the food is amazing.
Chef Connor uses the freshest local ingredients and uses them well. He said that he’s on the phone daily with the fishermen who supply the restaurant, and his seafood specials are based on what’s in the nearby waters at the time.
When my wife and I were here several years ago the special was cobia – a firm white fish with fantastic flavor. As luck would have it, it was cobia time during this visit. A generous portion of fish was served over roasted fingerling potatoes with a champagne cream sauce and topped with fried leek strips. The combination of flavors was beautifully balanced, and only a sense of decorum kept me from licking the plate.
We went back then next night.
All of the staff, including the chef and our previous night’s waitress, recognized us and came by to say hello. We had the crab dip appetizer, served with tortilla chips, which was excellent. I had to have the cobia again. My wife had scallops Barca, baked scallops served over a baked puff pastry and a lemon beurre blanc sauce. The combination of flavors and textures harmonized beautifully. She finished with peaches Melba for dessert, which she absolutely adored.
If we lived in the area, we’d be at Tautog’s at least once a week. At least.

Must visit while in VA beach..
Absolutely best restaurant in VA beach that we found so far. Everything we ordered was delicious. Crab nachos, crab salad, oysters Rockefeller and few other dishes that we tried were spectacular. Our waitress Sara was very friendly and helpful. We have visited many restaurants across the country, this one is definitely in the top 5. Highly recommended

Started with a decent dirty martini and the very delicious charcuterie and baked Brie appetizer. Try the peach gazpacho, light and tasty. For entrees, we had shrimp and grits, tuna Martinique and jacks rajun shrimp scampi. We recommend all three entrees. We even had dessert: key lime pie (good but we’ve had better). Our waitress was fabulous and we enjoyed the ambiance.

My Honey and I had dinner here a week and a half ago. This time I made reservations for 7 pm on a Thursday. On previous trips to VA Beach we have just winged it and walked up without reservations and the wait has been over an hour, which we declined. We were seated immediately at a table for two by the front door. My Honey loves Scallops so she ordered the Scallops Barca. I decided on a cup of She Crab Soup and to try the Swordfish Special w/lumped crab meat. My Honey loved her Scallops and I enjoyed my She Crab Soup and Swordfish very much. My dish was served with Bok Choy which I have never had before. I am not a fan and will not order again. Our server Ethan provided us impeccable service and valued recommendations. The staff was quick and efficient, removing dishes without imposing. We were glad we had the opportunity to visit Tautog's, an "old friend ". If you love seafood served in a cozy, homey atmosphere at a reasonable price ; this is your place. Just ensure you make reservations beforehand.

This place may only be open for a few days of the week but the wait is absolutely worth it. The oysters were amazing. The shrimp & grits made me stop and take a moment (in a good way). Then the gluten free dessert made the perfect ending to a perfect meal. The atmosphere here is so friendly & homey. Would absolutely return!
