My wife and I have been trying to get into Orion's Roof for a couple months, we're locals and were so excited when a restaurant of this caliber opened at Ocean Front. We were fortunate enough to be staying at the property for the Thanksgiving weekend which made the coming and goings exceptionally convenient and let me tell you we were not disappointed. One of the unique things about dining there on Thanksgiving was the fact that the normal full menu was being offered as well as the chefs Thanksgiving Dinner suggestion. My wife had been craving sushi and I opted for the prix fix Thanksgiving Dinner and was extremely happy to learn that the General Manager Tiffany was a Level III Sommelier who did an excellent job of finding wines that paired exceptionally well with both sushi and offerings such as scallops and duck breast. In reading other diners experiences at Orion's Roof I would say keep in mind the restaurant is relatively new and still working out the kinks but on Thanksgiving the place was firing on all cylinders, highly recommended.

First of all, Jake was our server. His attention to detail was impeccable. After addressing us by our formal names, he immediately began “talking up” the chef to make us feel like we are about to embark on an Asian fusion adventure. His use of adjectives when describing the food made you feel as though your mouth could actually taste the food as though it was sitting in front of you and you were about to spear your fork through it. His knowledge of wines was as though he was a personal sommelier. I could rave for hours and hours about his attentiveness. Every detail from our appetizers to dessert and coffee was so attentive and mindful. I told my husband he was the perfect salesman.
I could go on about our server but the most important thing about this place is the food. Jake described the sea bass as “silky” and melt in your mouth and the chef delivered upon his promise. We splurged on two appetizers, an entree each, and a dessert with a coffee accoutrement and left feeling comfortably full. Typically I don’t get excited about rice but it was so perfectly fluffy that I made a mention of it to the server. He was a bit baffled since it is an Asian fusion restaurant, but I gently reminded him that you can easily over or undercook rice.
This is definitely a place to take your wife. Hint hint.

Wow ok so this restaurant checks so many boxes for me. It strikes a perfect balance in many ways. It’s the best view of any Restaurant in Hampton Roads- you feel like you have that big city skyline without having to pay the big city prices. The cocktails were adventurous but still relatable- and tasty! And the wine list- W O W.
The food is generous and thoughtful, and I found that there were a variety of options to please anyone. I was in the mood for a lighter meal with a more delicate flavor profile, so I got the seabass (still MORE than enough food). My husband and son came with appetites and they like big flavors, they were over the moon with the Whole Fish and Ribeye! We shared some excellent sashimi to start.
The best part of the meal was that when we told our server what we were in the mood for, they were able to point us to exactly what we wanted.
Dinner will be more for special occasions I think, but they do a surprisingly affordable lunch I’m excited to come back and try it!

The restaurant is at the top of the Marriott. Apparently you need to make reservations weeks ahead even if you are a guest. It's average sushi and other japanese food.. A few non asian dishes as well but that's the theme. Unfortunately, the management is pretentious and interacts with the guests as if they are commoners getting ready for the "experience of their life". Having had shrimp tempura and sushi many times in my life, I didn't appreciate having to send it back as it was not crispy, soft and cold. Having the manager tell me "that's they way they do it here, and they will make it "my way" if I Iike, was a bit off putting. When you sit down the server gives you and "review of menu" which you don't really need as it's obvious and interjected with upselling. The service wasn't bad, a friendly waitress. I would go back, just for the pretty restaurant and the view, but can live without the attitude.

We made a reservation two days prior to our arrival. When we were greeted downstairs we were told our table is being cleaned and to go have a drink on the terrace. When we got to the terrace we had to go inside to grab a drink. There were five of us standing by the bar ordering, when five minutes later the general manager screamed at us as if there was a bomb. Telling us we can only order one at a time as a group even though four staff members were behind the bar and said no such thing. My friend ordered a beer on tap that kept being poured as straight foam. After two different bar tenders failed to pour the drink, they quickly walked away and didn’t provide my friend another option. Until he asked a third bartender to pour him something else. They were just going to have us stand there without a solution. We went back onto the terrace where it was freezing cold outside. An hour passed after our set reservation time and still no one updated us. So we went to ask for an update and we’re told for a second time our table was being cleaned. We left after that. Completely unexceptionable service.

Really enjoyed the food and experience. However, although there was verbal compensation for our late meal, it was never followed through and our wait staff was rather disappointing.
Sushi was an hour late but we were understanding. Manager offered us a fee dessert and it was never received (meaning, we ordered dessert and had to pay). At the end of our meal, we had half of our plate still full of food (we were definitely still eating) and wine in our glasses, and we asked to "be respectful of others and give up our table" moments after signing our check and tipping out server Bridget. Disappointing for sure, especially because our food was late and we were expecting to not pay for our $15 dessert- which we weren't upset about before being ask to leave.
We understand our food being late wasn't our serves fault, but never have had been asked to leave before finishing our food (that was LATE) on Valentines Day.

First and Foremost, My apologies for the delayed response.
I am sincerely apologetic for your experience, and that your dessert was not taken care of. I of course want to invite you back in for that dessert, and to create the experience we are accustomed to giving all of our gests.
Unfortunately, the holidays always tend to be tricky in order to get everyone in and seated in a timely manor and to have an outstanding experience. We would never ask a guest to leave prior to finishing and apologize for the situation, the intention is just ask that everyone under normal circumstances (food not taking longer than normal to arrive) respect the reservation behind them.
Again I do apologize and invite you back, ask for me.

We met some of our best friends here for lunch during our stay at the hotel over the holidays. The place is incredibly beautiful. The drinks were good but took so long to get. The sushi was ok but not over the top and I am not sure we would try it again. The menu is very pricey and coupled with the view and the atmosphere you would expect fine dining levels of service but the long wait to get seated, the long wait for drinks, the price and the ok food just didn't add up. Our server did her best though.

The food was amazing! There are no bad seats in this place! Great view of the beach! The service was fantastic! Our server, Jake, was extremely professional, yet humorous and fun to engage with. He made exceptional recommendations with wine and dessert pairings. Our bill was very expensive for what we are used to spending, BUT everything (view, food, wine, dessert, and especially the service) made it well worth it! I would definitely recommend this place for anybody looking for a memorable experience.

While reservations are VERY hard to come by, we were lucky to snag a 6PM table for six. We were first timers so were very happy to be seated at a window overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Every table offers a view of the water. Our waiter, Aaron was exceptional in every way. He was professional, thorough, friendly, and provided extraordinary service. When a staff member inadvertently spilled a drink it was taken care of with the utmost of diplomacy. The food was exquisitely prepared and presented. The freshest ingredients were prepared flawlessly and arrived at the table at the appropriate temperatures. The menu is well priced and offers a wealth of choices sure to please any palette. The wine choices were plentiful, priced well, and well appreciated. We are hoping we can snag another table soon.

I went here for birthday lunch with my daughters and was excited to come because I have not been there before but had heard really good things. Our server was extremely knowledgeable about the food and very pleasant although absent at times during the entire course of our time there. The food was good but it wasn’t good enough for the price that it was. It took 40 minutes for our lunch to come and it was not super busy. I have a feeling it was a kitchen issue. The manager brought one of our entrées and apologized. He offered free desserts which was nice but after that long, I was just ready to leave. The music in the restaurant made me want to jump through the window and fall 23 stories. No lie. Elevator music at its worst. I’m sure it had a lot to do with sitting there for 40 minutes waiting. I might come back for drinks because of the view and I also think it would be really cool to see at night. But I won’t be back because of the food or the experience dining there.

It's oceanfront on the 23rd floor of The New Marriott Hotel. All tables have dramatic views of the ocean and surrounding area. An osprey soared outside our window. Even the bar area has full ocean views. Our party of four ordered a shrimp tempura bento box, sushi rolls, a Thai pad dish, and a beef burger that was served with an optional pressed rice bun. All tastefully prepared with a moderate amount of spice using very fresh ingredients. It took a while to get the entrees, but more time to enjoy the view!
Katie, our server, was very helpful describing the entrees for us.
We didn't order drinks for lunch, but we noticed the drink list was very extensive, and more pricey than the food offerings.

We got married in December of 2020 and stayed in the hotel associated (Marriott Oceanfront) with the restaurant. We were excited to have our rehearsal dinner at Orion’s Roof. We have 11 people in our party due to Covid restrictions. The waitress was completely overwhelmed by the size of our party. She was not consistent when she came to the table. She would only speak to half of the guests in the party. Only addressing the first half of the long table. These guests would get their beverages, appetizers, and food and the other half of the guests would not have even been asked if they wanted anything. It created a very awkward and confusing dinner. Half the party had to ask if she would take our orders.
This was brought to the manager’s attention as our entrees were coming out, and we were silverware less and extra plate less. We had ordered sushi and chopsticks were not even brought. Meanwhile, the other guests were already having their plates cleared. Ultimately, the manger apologized but it came across very hollow. The manager wanted to say it was because the restaurant was new and that they were leaning... but this is what soft openings and trails fix. We explained our event and the manger offered to “make it right” but no discount was applied to our bill. On top of that, there were several things on the bill that were not ordered or had been brought incorrectly to our table.
In the end, I feel bad for our waitress. She was not supported by her employers or her teammates. She was left to struggle with a party she couldn’t handle. And we had a very disappointing experience.

We did speak when you came for your evening, as I did apologize (was quite sincere and sorry this is not how it felt) , and apologize again your event was not as you expected and as well not up to our standards either.
As we were a new restaurant opening in the midst of a pandemic and a very busy holiday month, we were joyful to take care of all the guest coming out for the first time with their family. Everyone that was so happy to be out in such hard time for all.
As there was extensive training provided for our team, and soft opening. Learning is daily event and is a constant -that does not stop once a restaurant opens, it does take time to get a rhythm for all new establishments. At times errors are made by even the most talented, Again I do apologize that your large party was effected by this, and anyone that is ever effected.
If I recall correctly, you were from out of town, when I offered your friends, you and your husband to come back to visit us again, you mentioned you were not from the area.
Under those circumstances, I did give your father who was local my card to come and visit me again.
Again I do offer you back and apologize for inconvenient

Our party of 3 arrived around 2 pm for our reservation. The manager took us to our table that had nothing less than a million dollar view. The occasion was my sister's birthday and we had a hefty budget thanks to her son. The lunch prices were very fair and we thought we would have problems spending all our gift money. But we put our heads together and ordered anything we wanted or just to taste. We each tasted bites of all the offerings.

The atmosphere and view was great, and we immediately felt comfortable. The food took a long time to arrive though, even the starters and the only thing that kept us from feeling irritated was the attentive and great attitude of our server, Sage. He could answer absolutely any questions that we had of the menu and gave great recommendations that we all enjoyed. He was quick to refill drinks, even while having to get around the restaurant, and he was great to chat with. Very funny and likeable guy! Incredibly professional as well, but not in the way that one would feel uncomfortable. We all had a great experience at Orion's Roof thanks to Sage!

This was our first visit to this recently opened restaurant 23 stories above the Virginia Beach ocean front. We went with two friends. Reservation ae a must. The concierge checks each reservation and holds people until it is their reservation time. She then allows the group to uses the dedicated elevator to the restaurant. The dining area is beautiful with great views of the beach. Our server was Whitney C. She brought us single use menus and took our drink orders. The menu has quite a variety of choices. I had the conch ceviche app. Beautifully presented and tasted pretty good. It could have had a bit more zing. My wife had an Orion salad and the veggie lo mein and said it was good. My entre was the New England lobster roll. It had a good portion of claw meat and the dressing was ok. I was disappointed that the roll was not buttered and grilled on both sides. Our friends had a dozen oysters on the half shell, sushi rolls and the lobster roll. The food was good, nothing to write home about but the service was slow - two hours for the lunch. When we asked Whitney, she said the kitchen got “slammed”. We thought she should have said something before we asked. We’ll probably go back again, maybe all the kinks will have been worked out. 9-20-20
